retirednewser 0 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Sloane's Facebook Page says she is"helping out the PHL17 morning show team when they need me." She then says she will b be filling in this week." https://www.facebook.com/SloaneHaines.WX/ Elsewhere on the Web it appears she has a full time job outside of tv news. Side note: Fox 29 has a half hour local sports show weekdays at 6:30pm. Weekends when there isn't sports coverage, the 6pm news is an hour.

I saw PHL17 post on Facebook that they are welcoming a new meteorologist, Sloane Haines. However, Monica Cryan (their current meteorologist) is still there. Granted, Monica could be leaving soon and they just wanted to bring her replacement in early, but I wonder if they could potentially be expanding their newscasts beyond the mornings? Sloane said on her Facebook page that she is filling in for the morning news when needed. Edited May 7 by rear_flank

HanSolo 467 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 29 pushed the sports show to 6:30 from post late news when they launched their comical attempt at a late night talk show. But they also had been running other local shows in a sort of checkerboard at 6:30 before the most recent realignment (Clash-room, some Bob Kelley show and others). As for 17’s news…while sure, one company goal may be to push NewsNation content, if it comes down to the income taking Action News at 10 generates vs a secondary philosophical desire, the cold hard cash is going to win out. Heck, Action News at 10 could be banished to the Localish channel or streaming and still get more eyeballs than anything PHL 17 could do in that hour (not to mention the not-little matter of Fox 29). 1
phillynewslover 166 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Chris just posted on Facebook confirming he is moving back to South Jersey. With that being said, I still don't see how he would end up at 6abc again, since they have no openings. Some people on FB said he could work with Nor'easter Nick, which seems more probable to me. Does 29 have any spots? Someone said that Cecily is planning on moving to GMA and Chris could move back to 6, but I have no idea where they got that from and I'm assuming it's pure speculation. 1
obxwatcher 23 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Cecily does guest spots on ABC News but I doubt anyone from GMA is leaving. My gut seems says Fox29 since they pick up the alumni from other stations usually. All I know is it seems like WPTV West Palm did Chris dirty and that’s a shame.
HanSolo 467 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Social media posters come up with utter nonsense. Cecily joining GMA? Yeah, not here in the real world. But Chris back to channel 6? No. No openings. And many of those questions/statements on social still don’t grasp he left of his own volition. He had perfectly good reasons and it’s a shame it didn’t work out long term. Some freelance work at 29? Sure, why not. They’re a bit faster to cycle through people and don’t mind picking up people who worked in the market. But whether it’s with someone else or on his own, the current most viable path is some sort of forecasting operation outside the broadcast stations.

FOX 29 definitely has the highest amount of people who worked at other stations previously (Bob Kelly, Kathy Orr, Drew Anderson, Jennifer Joyce). That being said, they don't have any spots open. Although, who does weekend evenings? Most likely he'll continue to focus on forecasting online. He could make his own Norcast Weather-type operation, or he could actually join them as I said above.

I believe Drew Anderson does Saturday morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning. I have seen Kathy Orr doing Sunday night. One of the stations, or NorCast Weather, would be stupid not to pick Chris up. He has many, many years of experience and is well-known in the Philly market. Edited May 13 by rear_flank
HanSolo 467 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 If someone gets an opening, sure, he’s a logical choice (certainly not saying the only choice). Freelancing/per diem work might be what’s available at the moment. Maybe open up to freelancing work in some markets a bit further out but still manageable. Or find something else full time and do forecasting on the side. Keep options open and see where things go.
rear_flank 47 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Chris Sowers is creating a new website for his weather updates. He is not joining any TV station as of now. 1
HanSolo 467 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The “dungeon” theme was fun and perfectly fine for what it was, but this is a much more “independent business” suitable brand. To anyone in any field launching their own venture, I always say sincere best wishes. It’s great to see people building something of their own.
