Is there any reason that we know of for why the start of Action News Mornings was pushed back to 4:30 earlier this year? Not that I have a problem with it, but it's kind of odd for them to get rid of a newscast. NBC10 got rid of the whole 4:00 AM hour around the same time, so their morning show is only two hours now. Good Day is the only show that still starts at 4:00. Are stations in other markets also cutting back on their morning shows?

Yeah if I recall we’ve been (or were?) seeing a trend of stations cutting back on the 4am hour nationwide. I believe KPRC in Houston cut the 4am hour due to staffing shortages and launched a 7am streaming newscast. Just one example I can recall off the top of my head.

Noticed Maggie Kent had a co-anchor this morning, Leland Pinder.

Yes, he also co-anchored with Caroline Goggin on a Sunday morning two weeks ago.

Seems like the answer would be contained in those two changes happening at roughly the same time. No one is going to make a big deal of it,  at least in most cases. If the numbers aren’t there, they aren’t there. They’ve made it easier (a relative term) on Karen Rogers by having Pellman handle the first half hour (outside of days off), with her also typically having the 10 am. They dialed back the third-wheel anchor concept for that show with the recent assignment changes. This seems a fairly straightforward case of fishing where the fish are.

Caroline Goggin is pregnant, so maybe Leland is auditioning to be her maternity leave replacement.

Did anyone notice that the format of the 11pm show has changed a little bit?

The full MCTYW open has been restored naming all of the talent, not just Rick Williams. At the top of the newscast, they quickly tick through some of the top headlines before they go into the Big Story.

The full MCTYW was introduced a few months ago. That headline thing started last month.

Whenever Rick is off, his fill in at 11 is usually Sharrie, unless she’s off too, in which case Gray fills in. Yesterday, Rick and Sharrie were off, and Gray filled in at 5pm and solo anchored at 10pm, but Brian filled in at 11pm. On a different note, Tamala Edwards has been filling-in in the evenings when an anchor is off, and yesterday she filled in as feature anchor at 4pm, but Sarah filled in at 5pm.

Normally, I wouldn't make note of fill-ins, but I thought they were pretty interesting tonight. 4:00 was Brian, Sarah, and Karen; 5:00 was Maggie, Alicia, and Karen; 6:00 and 6:30 were Brian and Karen; and it seems like 10:00 and 11:00 will be Christie and Karen. I've never seen Karen on in the evening before. Looking back on the website, Payton filled in for her this morning.

Cecily posted on Facebook that her and her husband were going to a wedding, and people in the comments say it was Brittany Boyer's wedding, so that must be why.

Annie McCormick is leaving Channel 6.

I thought she was a solid reporter there.

This station hasn’t been the same since Jim retired in 2022.

A little bit off topic but I see this woman heading to WABC in the next few years. She is obsessed with New York if you follow her page, now it could be just a good vacation spot but still I see it happening.

Obsessed? Because someone from the Midwest who is now in easy proximity takes some trips there in her free time? That’s a huge stretch.
