24994J 5619 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 You whiffed on my meaning 'J, I mean who wants to work thanksgiving? Somewhere else is anywhere but working on thanksgiving... Most likely sleeping In and hanging out with family and friends, going to parties etc. I know I would rather be home than working a lousy parade. Maybe they liked it but I am not implying they'd rather be somewhere else. Just because you do what you are assigned does not me you ran up to the front of the line enthusiastically to do it. I kinda thought you meant Thanksgiving, but I opted for the extreme.
ns8401 951 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I kinda thought you meant Thanksgiving, but I opted for the extreme. I honestly hope WGN wouldn't be dumb enough to get rid of them. I am under the impression the morning talent loves being there so I can't see the extreme scenario happening anytime soon.
Jase 1065 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Having worked the TV side of the parade for a # of years, the hosts have it pretty easy. The scripts are already done, so it's just a matter of doing a quick run through, dressing warmly, being able to read without sounding like you are and that's it. It's much easier now since they have all the performances first and then the parade instead of mixing them in. Heck...Mark and Micah, in theory, could be back home by Noon (if not sooner). Despite the weather, its a cool experience to have under your belt.

Jase 1065 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I suppose the question I would have is: does it get repetitive to do? No. There is always something different to do/to learn. I got to play stage director, if you will, most of the time. One year, the Santa float blew by too fast with about 1 min. left to fill at the end and I had to chase it down before it got out of camera range. Good times...
Mannym13 15 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I'm watching the parade right now, and I have to say that I do enjoy Suppelsa. He's funny with his commentary, better than Paul Konrad, but I don't like Micah Materre. Not as energetic as Robin. Mark and Robin would be cool, but they don't get a chance to work together so I guess we won't see that happen. 8/10 on this parade coverage, though.
alex979 119 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Wow, Dina Bair's back anchoring the news at nine with Tom Negovan. She did the midday news earlier with Steve Sanders. There was no evening news because of the Blackhawks.
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 I liked Mark and Dina together when they did the 4 & 9 earlier this week. Maybe this could be a start of something?
Spring Rubber 714 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Erin McElroy got to anchor the Morning News again for the full morning today as both Robin and Lourdes were off. Too bad she'll be permanently relegated to the kiddie desk (traffic) again after today's brief holiday opportunity to anchor again.
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 Anyone where Skillig has been? Jim just said he's be back at 9pm but he's missed the evening news all week.
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 He said yesterday at 9 p.m. that they are updating their weather system/software (whatever that means) and he was piloting it.
alex979 119 Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 WGN morning news does a lot of funny stuff, but I found this hilarious. And, it proves the "B-Team" can do great comedy too! "Noticias de mi Corazón" starring Dan, Lourdes, and Ana.

Spring Rubber 714 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Tom Skilling just said that he went to an immediate care center over the weekend due to a flare-up of the illness that he's been dealing with for the past month and a half. Man, I hope he gets better soon.
24994J 5619 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 We tossed it around back in September, but never really got an answer. Based on several instances in the last few weeks, Dina Bair is Micah's main fill-in on the 'Evening News' on most days, with Julie Unruh backing up at nine.
Spring Rubber 714 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I guess Tom's illness flared up worse again. After laboring through the day on Monday, he's been gone again yesterday and today. Get well soon, Tom.
Spring Rubber 714 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Sean Lewis is doing the 5 pm news after doing the 6 am news this morning. It's the Phil Schwarz experience!
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 WGN changed the "Tribune Broadcasting" graphic to a much simpler image. No animation like the previous one.
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I saw that I think although simple, it looks good and fits the new graphics pretty well.
24994J 5619 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 It's rather basic...just this image on a white screen with the copyright and date below...
alex979 119 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Tom Negovan is on the midday news today. Is he doing both the evening and nine o'clock shows too?
24994J 5619 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I think that was the arrangement yesterday. Dina also did the evening show, even though Julie Unruh was in-studio, reporting. Unruh then anchored at 9. This is why I think the 4 and 5 should have should have been broken up with 3 or 4 anchors over the 2 hours, but oh well.

I think it's got less to do with that and more to do with available personnel.

He's a pro.
