Spring Rubber 714 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 When people turn from the network shows at 10 o'clock, it really is not a good idea to be covering some trivial clickbait drivel (the breastfeeding story) while your three competitors are covering the top stories. This, a million times over.
alex979 119 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Why don't they actually have Tom at Ten like they said they would? That would be better than being in the middle of a lame click bait story at 10:00. When people turn from the network shows at 10 o'clock, it really is not a good idea to be covering some trivial clickbait drivel (the breastfeeding story) while your three competitors are covering the top stories. It looks like they're more interested in keeping their own 9:00 viewers than luring people away from the big three networks. Just look at the way they reformatted the News at Nine to set up the Ten. Do they really expect people to stay for 90 minutes? I don't think that's a good idea, either.
Spring Rubber 714 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Yeah, I don't understand their strategy. Why not just extend the 9 pm newscast to 10:00 on the dot (instead of 9:57) and start there with the actual top stories?
24994J 5621 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I have a feeling they spent all their time and resources coming up with the promo animation where the clock turns into the @ symbol, and literally did nothing else to prepare for this show.
Spring Rubber 714 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I have a feeling they spent all their time and resources coming up with the promo animation where the clock turns into the @ symbol, and literally did nothing else to prepare for this show. lol, I'm on the floor right now.
Spring Rubber 714 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Oh, and this isn't specific to the 10 pm news per se, but as of about a week ago, they stopped having the sports anchor stand up at the desk. They're now seated at the desk, squeezed in between the anchor and the round "table" at the edge of the desk. Might as well eliminate that round "table" thing on the desk. I guess it's not used for anything anymore. And wow, that was a very rushed and disjointed close to the newscast.

alex979 119 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Well, at least they closed with all of them at the desk together for the first time in years. And we get to see the 7-day again. (And he kept all of the text in the boxes. Damn!) "Aren't we having so much fun?!" -Tom Skilling
Spring Rubber 714 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 At least a hyped Tom Skilling is always fun to watch.
24994J 5621 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Having all four around certainly forces Micah to dial it back, which is always welcome. It's like how the morning show is better with all four anchors than just three.
24994J 5621 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Feder had the ratings this morning, and ABC 7 should be breathing a sigh of relief...at least for now. WLS: 7.1 / 2.8 WMAQ: 6.2 / 2.8 WGN: 2.9 / 1.6 WBBM: 2.5 / 0.9
Jase 1065 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Honestly, WLS and WMAQ have nothing to worry about from WGN. It's WBBM that has to be very, very concerned.
TheRolyPoly 2556 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Not surprised that Channel 9 has beat Channel 2 in the first night and won't be surprised when Channel 9 will continue to beat Channel 2 at 10pm. For all I care, they probably already beat Channel 2 at 11am and 5pm.
TheRolyPoly 2556 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Sorry for the double post, but WGN Sports on WISH-TV has been expanded to include the Chicago Blackhawks with 19 games: http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/88952/wish-indianapolis-lands-chicago-blackhawks
24994J 5621 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Check out the last paragraph of this article... http://www.newscaststudio.com/2015/10/06/chicago-abc-teasing-new-studio-with-large-banners/ And WBBM, too? Hmm. 1
alex979 119 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Check out the last paragraph of this article... http://www.newscaststudio.com/2015/10/06/chicago-abc-teasing-new-studio-with-large-banners/ And WBBM, too? Hmm. Ohhhh boy. But really, it's unclear if WGN and WBBM will debut this sweeps period? I think it's a little late to get it ready for November... February could be interesting, though. We'll see!
24994J 5621 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I'm going to reiterate my joking idea from last week speculating that the lottery/Bozo studio will become a temp set.
312newswannabe 11 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Yeah, I don't understand their strategy. Why not just extend the 9 pm newscast to 10:00 on the dot (instead of 9:57) and start there with the actual top stories? Mark Suppelsa was on Roe Conn today saying the 9:57 start time is trickery to keep viewers 1
24994J 5621 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 So, the ratings might have actually been worse than we were told?
alex979 119 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Well, tonight it's the WGN News at Ten... at 9:59. And they're leading off with a live report from Wrigley. Better.
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Much better tonight: -Went to live shot instead of recapping top stories -started at around 9:58, close to :59
alex979 119 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Then, they do top story recap at 10:01, and Tom @ Ten (oh three.) This is already about 10x better than last night. 2
24994J 5621 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I agree that the timing was much improved, but it seems to me that the program is still really soft in the middle. After Skilling, if I recall correctly, the show was pretty much Negovan, Elwood, and Roan's content, right?
ns8401 955 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Check out the last paragraph of this article... http://www.newscaststudio.com/2015/10/06/chicago-abc-teasing-new-studio-with-large-banners/ And WBBM, too? Hmm. And WGN too... Look at the Demos between 5 and 7 too... Tied. That's a tight race that I doubt 7 is relieved about at all...
24994J 5621 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 And WGN too... Look at the Demos between 5 and 7 too... Tied. That's a tight race that I doubt 7 is relieved about at all... Considering NBC essentially led in the demo since May, being tied is better than before. Oh, and I only verbally mentioned 'BBM since being posted in the WGN thread implied they were mentioned..."and WBBM, too".
