After tonight's insanely long World Series game, WFLD went right into Chicago Sports Tonight instead of a newscast.

Back in the day, didn't they used to pre-record a newscast for air after an MLB game that went especially long?

I want to say yes (airing a pre-recorded newscast). They have now shifted towards doing live streaming newscasts instead when sports, etc... run over. Granted, they could have aired that after the game, but probably decided against it.

Also, it appears that Joanie Lum has moved to afternoon/evenings. Unknown if this is temporary until they hire more reporter(s).

Bret Buganski (formerly of WCPO) returns home to Chicago joining Fox 32 as an anchor/reporter. Unclear what newscast(s) he will anchor.

Couple of notes....

WFLD has posted a job listing for a lead sports anchor which 'would suggest' neither Carlson and Nguyen are in the running for the lead sports position.

Also, Joanie Lum has been MIA for some time with Tellez and new hire Se Kwon filling in. No word on when Lum will return or if Roseanne will return to her anchor role on GDC.

Male 9PM co-anchors in Chicago are 0-for-2 in the last two weeks. Scott Schneider was let go on Thursday. He was on on Wednesday night, but Dawn was solo at 5 last night, joined by new reporter Leslie Moreno at 9.

Wow... Scott and Dawn were a solid team. Wonder who they find to replace him? Also, the ST article mentioned 4 new reporters, but I only count 3 (Kwon, Moreno and Buganski). Unless the 4th reporter hasn't started yet??

I was definitely struggling with that 4th one. I know Buganski was hired with an anchor/reporter title, but this mystery 4th could also be in play.

Bret reportedly joined late last year. Also to make matters worse, Roseanne Tellez was also reportedly axed from the station after 7 years.

I knew this was going to happen to Tellez when they essentially demoted her to morning reporter and moved Premus to an anchor role. The fact that Roseanne gets the ax, but Jackson; the weakest link on GDC (and at WFLD/Fox 32 overall) survived these cuts is shocking.

Could the "Fox Chicago" branding be making a comeback?

They’ve been using it as sign off tagline in recent weeks and the Fox Chicago logo is in use at the Michigan Ave entrance to their offices.

It makes sense given they refer to WPWR as 'FOX Chicago +'. But they better not get rid of the '32' again...

They have been using 'Fox Chicago' as a sign-off tagline since December 2025. But I hope they don't get rid of the '32'...

Mystery Reporter #4 (Lauren Scafidi) started today @ 4P.

She's been shadowing for two weeks, and filled in for Anita Blanton for a couple hours of Friday's afternoon stream.

...and Scafidi filled in for Dawn, last night. Meanwhile, Buganski & Moreno seem to be the Friday 9pm anchors, with Terrence & Tia on the 4-6pm block. Buganski was also in for Sylvia on Easter morning. Newbie Se Kwon has also shown up in a few off-peak slots, like the noon.

Terrance has (likely) picked up Noon too (in addition to his normal 4-6P duties). He has been on with Sylvia (and Se) for the past couple of weeks. Natalie anchored with Sylvia at Noon prior to her going on maternity leave. Seems like they're trying out different pairs, etc...

WFLD has posted a job description for a Political Reporter. Unclear if Paris Schutz is leaving, taking on a new role at Fox 32 (he previously worked as an investigative reporter at WTTW) or will share the political beat with this new reporter (thus possibly assuming the title as Political Editor).

He has gotten a lot of scoops lately and would be a big loss for Fox 32.

I tuned in and watched FOX 32's morning newscast on TV. I think they swapped the FOX 32 Chicago mic flag with a "Fox Chicago" mic flag on the microphone.

The previous mic flags were just too small, so a new one was needed.

Meteorologist JD Rudd will be filling in for Emily for the next couple of months while she's on maternity leave. He made his on-air debut today, but has been at the station since yesterday (I believe) working behind the scenes, making appearances on Isobar/Fox Local Chicago, etc..

JD and Terrance both worked together 10+ years ago in Cleveland. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to keep him on a freelance/part-time basis. He's pretty good from what I saw.

And to answer the question. He’s leaving

Cassie Carlson has ‘unofficially’ been named Lead Sports Anchor as her bio has been updated to reflect this change and the Lead/Primary Sports Anchor job link is no longer active/has been removed.

Which means, unless they replace Scott’s role; Fox 32’s 5P & 9P newscasts will be led by an all female team {Hasbrouck as Lead News Anchor, Wahls as Chief Met and now Carlson as Lead Sports Anchor}.

They have added a new job listing for a Sports Anchor/Reporter.
