Big Country News 435
I just noticed today that Media General stations are moving to the Lin Wordpress layout. I'm not sure how long this has been going on, or if a thread has been made, but websites like KRON4.com, WNCN.com, and KWQC.com are already on the layout. This is a major improvement from MG's previous websites. TennTV1983 804
Not a big surprise considering that the former Young stations were the first to switch to the LIN layout post-merger. tyrannical bastard 3955
I figured it was a matter of time before the WorldNow deal expired, as the former Young stations used them as well until last year. Ironically, WALA switched from the LIN layout to WorldNow since it was divested to Meredith, and NOW WKRG has the LIN layout! (as of this posting, WKRG and WNCN are the only two legacy stations to switch...KRON didn't switch with the other Young stations but KWQC did. KELO is still on their current layout.) GoldenShine9 1513
Given that MG is now more like LIN 2, I wonder if graphics changes and logo changes may be forthcoming for the longtime MG stations (especially those with them since the Spartan acquisition when they standardized)? GoldenShine9 1513
Of the stations on the Media General (pre-2014) side of the company, the following stations HAVE changed to the LIN layout: KLFY (5) KRON (5) KWQC (5) WATE (5) WBAY (5) WBTW (3) - switched June 26 WCMH (4) - switched June 22 WFLA (1) - switched June 23 WHLT (6) - switched June 25 WJBF (3) WJHL (2) WJTV (6) WKRG (3) WKRN (5) WLNS (5) WNCN (4) WNCT (2) WRIC (5) WSAV (6) - switched June 26 WSLS (2) - switched June 24 WSPA (3) - switched June 24 WTEN (5) The following stations still use the older layouts: KELO+ (5) WCBD (1) WRBL (3) # indicates station source: 1 Legacy MG station, 2 Ex-Park, 3 Ex-Spartan, 4 Ex-NBCU/Outlet, 5 Ex-Young, 6 Other acquisition The only ex-Young station that has not changed is KELO+, and I would think that is coming up soon. The rest are longtime MG stations although the ex-Spartan stations seem to be the slowest to change. Stations that MG has divested are not included. sanewsguy 511
I've always wondered why KELO never switched but their site apparently was designed by a local web design firm and they've never been on WorldNow...will the new MG grant them an exception and let them keep their locally designed site? Doubtful... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14459-media-general-stations-moving-to-lin-web-layout/#findComment-129906 Share on other sites

Doubtful... I actually like KELOLand's current website layout. Really different than any other local news website. I just hope that its kept in some way, shape or form. tyrannical bastard 3955
Right now, the stations that are doing the switch are those that Media General owned pre-Young. The Young stations did a mass switch to the LIN platform shortly before the LIN stations were acquired. (aside from KRON which switched recently to the LIN platform) The swaps (WHTM and KXRM) were switched relatively quickly after their transfers were finalized. WTTA's old Sinclair site was put out of its misery and merged into WFLA's site. WFNA still does not have a website or a sub-site on WKRG.com. At least now their old domain WFNATV.com now redirects to WKRG.com after redirecting for several months to WALA's site (FOX10TV.com) Up until they caved into WorldNow in 2012, they've had a mix of good, bad, and awful CMS platforms developed by their IMG department. GoldenShine9 1513
just checked WCMH's page. they have switched to the LIN format and the page actually don't look half bad at all! Updated the list. Checked the other nine sites, and none of them have switched yet. Except for KELO, all the stations that have not switched have been with MG at least since 2000. mre29 1537
I'm going to guess that either KELO or WCBD will be last. WCBD's staff is probably busy enough right now as it is. tyrannical bastard 3955
More than likely, KELO will be the very last one, if they even switch. They may be under contract to their local provider, and this partnership benefits both parties resulting in a much more robust website rather than one that's been ported from host to host and platform to platform. And if KELO is making a ton of money from it (since they are a VERY dominant station in their market) it may never switch. WCBD & WRBL on the other hand, is imminent since they've been just like every other Media General station, switching platforms every couple of years. It's no longer a question of if....but when... Viper550 291
WJBF's SSA partner WAGT also got migrated; shocked they didn't tweak the navbar a bit for differentiation like they did WBAY. On Worldnow, they had a distinct template from the other MG stations that emphasized the circles graphics more.
