MikePulse 319 Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Every other year, on average, WFTV refreshes their look. This year, they decided, "let's get a new set!" Here's what they've done SO FAR (because, SPOILER ALERT, the final frame is nowhere near the final product) http://www.wftv.com/videos/news/raw-timelapse-of-wftv-news-set-under-construction/vDWLfs/ It's interesting, only because their old set seems to have aged pretty well for 9 years; early on, you see them moving the basic parts to another studio to function as their temporary set. Looks promising, and one can only hope for a new graphics and/or music package, or even new cuts of Inergy (similar case in 2006). Just as long as they don't go back to Megatrax.
Breaking News 839 Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Isn't Martha Sugalski jumping over to Channel 9, but what newscast will she be anchoring? Is Marti Salt in the hot seat? Questions, Questions, Questions??? It was time for WFTV to get a new set, and I thought the mothership for Cox WSB-TV was in the works of getting a new set as well too?
MidwestTV 1244 Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Well one thing is for certain, their new set is MASSIVE.
jbnews 345 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I watched some of the video. Why did they rebuild part of their set? Is that the "temporary" set?
24994J 5629 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I watched some of the video. Why did they rebuild part of their set? Is that the "temporary" set? Read the first damn post.
Breaking News 839 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Now. it's WPXI's turn. I agree with you on that. WPXI, WSB and WFTV time for new sets.
Hickman360 21 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 For some reason I have a hunch Cox is going by the same route they did when it came to rolling out HD correct me if I'm wrong wasn't WFTV the first of the COX stations to go HD then WSB etc? Something tells me WFTV gets a new set then more than likely WSB will be next

I believe, someone here mentioned a tweet by one of their on-air talent mentioning that they were getting a new set... This was sometime last year, if i'm not mistaken.
WXmanTim 88 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I think it was around the time WAGA debuted their new studio

I believe, someone here mentioned a tweet by one of their on-air talent mentioning that they were getting a new set... This was sometime last year, if i'm not mistaken. I think it was around the time WAGA debuted their new studio Somebody tweeted Justin Farmer about WAGA's set and his reply was just wait until you see WSB's, but again like you said that was last year. We all know WSB can't be upstaged by WAGA, WXIA and of course the ever changing WGCL. So WSB has to be the king of everything, but I do like the current set they have, so they have to come gangbusters to dethrone WAGA's set. WAGA's is very nice, so here hoping WSB will come out on top, but this will be very interesting to see.

I wonder if the folks at WSB saw all the attention and good reviews that WAGA's set got, and decided to hold off on a new set so they could come up with something bigger/better?
MikePulse 319 Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Isn't Martha Sugalski jumping over to Channel 9, but what newscast will she be anchoring? If this is the case, we should be keeping an eye on her. She tweeted a cryptic "32", as in 32 days till she makes it to a new station [many predict the 9, which, if true, will be the Marla Weech saga all over again]. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/tv/tv-guy/os-martha-sugalski-counts-days-to-switch-20150707-post.html
jbnews 345 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Can't wait to see if she goes to 9. WESH has always been my Orlando favorite (even though we don't live there). But, we'll see! When does the new studio debut?

When does the new studio debut? For now, let's just assume that Sugalski debuts the same day as the new set. Otherwise, we should know soon.
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I've always loved Channel 9. This is good news and can't wait to see the new set. Very excited about it.
MikePulse 319 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 The new set debuts today at 4:00. 9's Facebook promises "sneak peeks" leading up to it. https://www.facebook.com/VanessaEcholsWFTV/videos/854088721294585/ Vanessa Echols (who celebrates 23 years here today) posted a flashback to when their pre-HD set premiered, on the aftermath of the 1998 tornado outbreak. https://www.facebook.com/wftv/videos/10153275382248145/ Road reporter Raquel Asa (I have to call her that because she not only does morning traffic but most of the stories she reports involve roads in some form) notes that the old set will go "to a station in Tennessee". One can assume new sibling WHBQ.

MikePulse 319 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Time to get excited.
TennTV1983 807 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Graphics and music are the same, but that set is a BEAST.
MikePulse 319 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 A BEAST is right. I'm OK with them not having new graphics; their current look still has a lot of life yet. Thank god, though, no Megatrax music again; that would've dampered it so much.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Here's the whole gallery. http://www.wftv.com/gallery/news/local/photos-channel-9s-old-set/gCWD3/
MikePulse 319 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 And now their talent open's changed a bit, but it reveals a nice shot of everything.
LexTVandRadio 418 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I was just in Orlando all last week and was hoping to see it go live. Looks impressive.
