After the rebranding of TRTE to RTE Kids last year, their sibling has done the same as of last month. Instead of RTEjr, its now RTE Kids Jr.

Having both "Kids" and "Jr." in the name seems redundant. 🤷‍♂️

As of this weekend, the last of Global stations' Global 1 helicopters are being grounded for GOOD.

These are the final sign offs for those choppers from CITV Edmonton, CICT Calgary, and CHAN Vancouver.

If you're unaware, Paramount is shutting down all MTV-related music channels around the world, but NOT MTV itself, as the reality crap we all come to hate will still be around. Now that its New Year's Eve 2025, some have begun to shut down entirely, such as MTV Hits in France.

Sky News at Ten is coming to an end on Sunday after a nearly 26-year run, as well as Sky News at 11, and the separate Press Preview (10:30 and 11:30pm) programs. Instead, its being replaced by a new two-hour program called The Wrap from 10pm-12 midnight. Anna Botting, who's been at Sky News for as long as I've been alive (30 years), will anchor Mondays-Thursdays with Gillian Joseph (celebrating 25 years at Sky News this year) anchoring Fridays-Sundays.

Nine is splitting up its radio and TV assets. Nine will keep TV, obviously, but is getting out of the radio business by selling it to an 84-year-old billionaire pub owner with his company, Laundry Family Office, to take over 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, 6PR (news/talkers), 2UE, Magic 1278, and 4BH (oldies stations) in a $56 million deal.

SEN was considered the frontrunner, so it's kind of a shock they didn't get it. Nine will acquire QMS Media, a digital outdoor media platform (think of digital billboards), and it will sell NBN Television to WIN, thus converting it from a Nine regional O&O to a Nine affiliate.

I missed this, but this was three months ago. Angeles Blanco, a longtime news presenter at Informativos Telecinco, who has done virtually every shift you can think of for the network, from mornings and afternoons (with Isabel Jimenez, who's still there) to weekends (with Jose Ribagorda, since retired), but never the main 9pm slot, is finally getting her chance and is now on at 9pm every weeknight with Carlos Franganillo.

What is a longtime, you may be asking? 34 years as of this year. She joined in 1993 when their news division was actually called (since it only had one news program at the time) Entre Hoy y Manana. It wouldn't adopt their current name, Informativos Telecinco, until 1997. She's also married to Vincente Valles, a former Telecinco news presenter himself who's been with Antena 3 Noticias since 2011, and the two met while working there.

The Weather Network is now live streaming on YouTube, as it has been since Friday. I believe this is the FAST (streaming) version of the channel, NOT the one you're used to seeing on Rogers, Bell, SaskTel, Videotron, Cogeco, and other providers.

🇧🇦Bosnia's public broadcaster BHRT is currently in crisis mode, as it warns of an imminent shutdown: https://n1info.ba/english/news/bhrt-airs-black-screen-today-instead-of-its-regular-program-warns-of-imminent-shutdown/

Yesterday, BHRT stopped all of its programming except for the news, where in its place was a message from BHRT themselves:

Today, BHRT does not broadcast its regular program.

Daily account freezes, including a million-euro freeze by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is due soon, clearly indicate the imminent end of BHRT.

Political actors and competent institutions, in the absence of solutions and responsible action, are questioning the survival of the public service of Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby simultaneously undermining the institutional and identity framework of the state.

It is unknown at this point whether the broadcaster will continue further.

It's been a while since I logged into this place, but just on one of Australia's recent broadcast media happenings...

I'll be rather interested to see if Nine retains some of NBN's current on-air talent after the Northern NSW station is offloaded to WIN. In particular, NBN News weekend presenter Jane Goldsmith who has not irregularly presented Nine's Late News and done the occasional Sydney-based fill-in gig aside from that during the past few years.

🐂 Spain (bull for Running of the Bulls in Pamplona)

I should've posted this last week, but I was just too lazy. Yet, better late than never.

Last week, after a six-year hiatus, Los Desayunos de RTVE made its triumphant return. It originally aired from 1994 until it went off-the-air in 2020. This time, its aired on Canal 24 Horas (TV), Radio 5 (Radio), and RTVE Play (streaming).

In addition to Juan Ramón Lucas, director and presenter of Las Mañanas de RNE (on Radio Nacional), and Mamen Jiménez, director of economic news for the Spain-based EFE news agency, both co-hosting, one other host is very well known to the program and to Spanish journalism... Pepa Bueno. Yes, the same Pepa Bueno, who co-hosted the program for five years from 2004 to 2009 and is truly synonymous with the program, and also anchors the second edition of Telediario (9pm), is back on the program in a new partnership between RTVE and the EFE news agency.

Once again, NEW Perth is bringing back their weekend early evening local news, and once again, it'll be Narelda Jacobs presenting the bulletin after a six-year hiatus in Sydney, and a three-year hiatus for the bulletin overall.

Yes, she did present 10's Perth news during that time, but was mainly out ot Sydney from 2020 until 2023.

🟡🔵🔴 (Colombia; no... that's not the Telefe Argentina logo. Hahaha.)

I've been a fan of Noticias Caracol as my preferred Colombian news source for almost the last 15 years (dating back to 2012). However, two of their longest-serving news presenters are OUT after being accused of alleged sexual harassment against female colleagues.

Jorge Alfredo Vargas was the main weeknight co-anchor at 7:00 p.m. (Edicion Central) alongside a true legend, Maria Lucia Fernandez (who's anchored the weeknight 7:00 p.m. news since day one of Noticias Caracol in 1998 and even before then since 1995 when Caracol was just a production company, not a television network yet). Jorge Alfredo has been there since 2006, but is gone after 20 years, leaving Maria Lucia to anchor the newscast solo.

Ricardo Orrego has been the main sports presenter at Caracol Television (Noticias Caracol, Gol Caracol, and their sports telecasts under the Caracol Sports banner + Blu Radio) since 2000.

#MeTooColombia (sounds familiar?) and #YoTeCreoColega (#IBelieveYouColleague in English) are now trending on X and other social media platforms in Colombia as a result.
