Greggo 358 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Their main anchor tweeted out the news. It's about time, too. They've bastardized the hell out of that set. Also, sister Tegna station KVUE/Austin is reportedly getting a new set soon, as well.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Also, sister Tegna station KVUE/Austin is reportedly getting a new set soon, as well. KHOU, KVUE and KENS getting new sets... Its a start, but why is WFAA being left out; they need a new set not just at Victory park, but at their main studio too.
LOWERCASE GUY 283 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 I said it once, and I'll say it again: Someone PLEASE pass a collection plate around or something to get WHAS a new set! GoFundMe anyone? LOL
MidwestTV 1244 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 holy crap that studio did NOT age well

Anyone know what type of teleprompters are being used with the hard plastic backing and what cameras are inside? Are the PTZ?
Breaking News 839 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 KHOU, KVUE and KENS getting new sets... Its a start, but why is WFAA being left out; they need a new set not just at Victory park, but at their main studio too. They have Victory Park and WFAA studios, so which one would need an upgrade? Do WFAA really need or want to TEGNA boutique sets?
Greggo 358 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 The new set is almost ready ... and, ahead of its debut, they've rolled out a new, very bland logo. See the tweet below ...

SteveKendall 31 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 By the looks of their website, it just looks like the old logo with the CBS eye tacked on.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 The Tegna Set is coming to San Antone. This is from Jeff Brady's Facebook post.
Que 73 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Why does Tegna think this is good? But look at all that room KENS has to work with. Let's hope WFAA does not get this. They already lost a lot of good people and brought on new bland/boring talent (which would go perfect with the Tegna set).

I kinda sense a "CBS 5" branding getting thrown in there somewhere when the new set rolls out.
Greggo 358 Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 Debuts today at 4. Doesn't look as bad as some of the other Tegna set rollouts (cough, cough ... KHOU) http://www.mysanantonio.com/entertainment/entertainment_columnists/jeanne_jakle/article/San-Antonio-TV-station-debuts-smashing-new-look-10917591.php?cmpid=fb-desktop#photo-12336751
24994J 5629 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Those plain gray panels at the top and bottom of the set add nothing, and I STILL maintain that the desk would look a million times better if each station's logo was etched into the frosted panels. That said, I do think that this set design looks better in a small market...which is a problem for almost all the large station groups (pertaining to both sets and/or graphics).
Breaking News 839 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Here more pictures of KENS 5....Looks like those boutique sets are popular with TEGNA.....smh
Que 73 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Let's hope those light reflections on the monitors do not show up during broadcast. I am noticing a lot of stations these days are not paying attention to proper lighting and monitor placement.
MidwestTV 1244 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 A hospital is less sterile than these TEGNA sets.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Well; you have to admit, the Tegna sets (Jack Morton PDG) you seen on KING, KUSA, WHAS, KHOU and now KENS are the most incredible news sets I've ever seen. And I still say expect more Tegna sets coming on all Tegna stations soon.

CircleSeven 1960 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 ...So when will KVUE 24 get this carbon copy?

And I still say expect more Tegna sets coming on all Tegna stations soon. I, and most others here, will never admit that. Ditto. It has an amazing concept but its execution was terrifyingly bad. Look, the guitar pick desk, LCD screen layouts and usage of gradients as the backdrop created a unique design while providing versatile options. Additionally, it at least functions as a set, with the primary shooting points unobstructed and appropriate. However, the horrific choice of wood tones added with an oversaturated gradient set and a excessive use of dead space to emulate minimalism killed any potential this design would have. Classic Tegna.

The main issue is that they are too sterile for me. I feel like something needs to be added below the back lit "ribbons". Maybe they could add strategic lighting aiming towards the floor. I think this maybe the case of the finished photos not doing the set justice.
Greggo 358 Posted February 12, 2017 Author Posted February 12, 2017 ...So when will KVUE 24 get this carbon copy? KVUE is supposed to get it sometime this year, last I heard. Was originally supposed to be immediately following the KENS install, but things apparently changed.
