KXAN/Austin is expanding its 430p newscast to a full hour this week. Jennifer Sanders will anchor, in addition to adding the noon news to her duties following Friday’s departure of Amanda Dugan. First-run Jeopardy and Daytime Jeopardy will air at 3p and 330p. (First-run Jeopardy had been airing at 4p on KXAN.) Dr. Phil, which had been airing at 3p, slides to 2p, and displaced Rachael Ray gets bumped to 3p on sister station KBVO (MyTV). Daytime Jeopardy had been airing at 530p on sister station KNVA (CW) and is being replaced by a 4th run of Family Feud. Family Feud will now air for 2 straight hours on KNVA: 5p to 7p.

And in more KXAN news, political reporter Daniel Marin will take over 5, 6, and 10 PM when Robert Hadlock retires later this month.

A couple of Connecticut moves that flew under the radar. First, former WFSB/WTIC traffic reporter Rachel Lutzker has resurfaced at WTNH to do the zombified CT Style segment that closes out their noon news. Second is a bit bigger.

WFSB weekend evening anchor/New London Bureau chief Kevin Hogan is retiring at the end of this month, already having gone off the anchor desk effective last weekend. This caps a 50 year career split nearly evenly between radio and TV.

Given how WFSB still technically has two BIG vacancies on weeknights dating back to prior ownership (and a base of prospective anchors who might not want those spots given the implied shoes they'd be filling), it'll be interesting to see who they get to do weekend evenings if they decide to find someone even.

Someone at a smaller Gray station could be in for a promotion there? Maybe hire from, say, WCAX?

To replace Kevin Hogan? Maybe. The station has enough young talent that are probably anchor ready that it might be good to take a chance on them. WFSB management has been high on Ayah Galal and if memory serves me right she'd be the first regular anchor of a local newscast anywhere in the US who wears a hijab.

To replace the second weeknight anchor pair that has been vacant since Erin Connolly and Mark Zinni defaulted into the A team after Denise D'Ascenzo died and Dennis House was cast off? Perhaps. I don't think the sentiment is that Gray is too cheap, is that a lot of the people who were there when Denise/Dennis were would see being in that spot as de facto replacing them and they left some pretty shoes to fill even if both have been vacant for two years.

I think the Stephanie Simoni hire is a backdoor way to fill the Denise hole - she started on a new newscast so an expansion might not be seen as directly replacing her. Whether the obvious move (pairing her with her husband Roger Susanin who IMO should've been made the second weeknight anchor 18 months ago) will be done remains to be seen.

WTOK (and the Meridian, MS market) is finally getting a midday newscast!

May be an image of 2 people, people standing and text that says 'WTOK NEWS 11 MIDDAY Launches Monday at 11:30 am'

Their only competition is WMDN/WGBC which only puts out a 6 and 10pm newscast, as well as a 9pm on WGBC's Fox station. All former Waypoint stations, so these are produced from afar.  At least Coastal Television hasn't put their mark on these stations....yet.

WCVB has promoted Cindy Fitzgibbon and Mike Wankum in the wake of Harvey Leonard’s retirement. Cindy will gain the title of Chief Meteorologist, but will remain on the morning/noon newscasts. Mike Wankum, currently on weekend evenings, will become the new weeknight meteorologist.

IMO, well-deserved promotions for both.

Heather Kovar is leaving WRGB Schenectady/Albany at the end of the month, but right now, that is being overshadowed by this.

Brian Dorman is leaving KOTV for CBS47 in Fresno California where he will be main anchor for the 5, 6, 7, and 11pm shows.  His last day will be Friday with 6.

Man, that's sad.   Jon Loufman is a fixture of Cleveland TV.   I think he's been on every station (starting as a fill-in meteorologist) before getting permanent roles on WKYC and WOIO.  He just comes off as a likeable person, so what's not to love about him?

Jon actually parted time on WTVG while they were searching for a replacement meteorologist. He seemed like a real good guy. I can't imagine why his own son would do this. Interesting that his own wife was charged too. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Shiba Russell signed off for the last time at WXIA 11 Alive. I have a feeling she will be a network correspondent in the DC area or an anchor in Philly. Sad to see her go. Atlanta viewers seemed to have taken a liking to Ms Russell. Best of luck to her!

You were right. New anchor at Fox29

WALA FOX 10 is expanding Studio 10 to TWO hours and adding a midday newscast this fall.  Not sure if the midday news will be on at 11am or noon.  Joe Emer announced this morning on Good Day Gulf Coast, and he will be moving to these new shows, bringing Eric Reynolds back to the program with Sarah Wall. Eric currently anchors the 4:30-7am portion.

That's the first time I've seen a lifestyle program expand to 2 hours....has this happened anywhere else?

WXIA's lifestyle show was 1.5 hours for awhile

It appears Lindsay Clein has left or is leaving WJZY. I figured this was coming when Nexstar took her out of the anchor chair at 6 and 10 in favor of Alicia Barnes. She didn’t even get the noon and 4pm spot. She did fill in when Annie Szatkowski or Alicia went on vacation but was relegated to a reporter role. Best of luck Lindsay. https://www.instagram.com/p/CgIojDVsp1y/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
