WBAY has hired WPSD meteorologist Nolan Cain to be their new weekend met (replacing Keith Gibson). Freelance meteorologist Colleen Mehlberg, who has worked the weekend broadcast following Gibson's departure, will continue to make sporadic appearances.

I just saw something on KTVD's schedule. First off, I didn't know that KUSA added another hour of news at 9am on KTVD. Then, I further looked at the schedule, and it looks like KUSA is about to copy KDVR.

 

Starting Monday, Sept. 8th, KUSA will add an extra two hours of weekday news on KTVD from 10am-12pm. In other words, if you watch KUSA's news solely on KTVD, then you'll be able to watch the whole block from 4:30am-12 Noon, just like how KDVR does it.

Its rare for someone to stay at a small market station for so long. Yet, Briggs LeSavage stayed for nine years at KBJR-TV, and has pretty much done every single job you can think of in the newsroom, on air, and behind the scenes. Not to mention, she's a Duluth native, so it was easy for her to stay.

 

Morning anchor (at KBJR-2), content director, assistant news director, news director, 5:00 p.m. anchor, host of lifestyle program Northern Life, etc. She's done it all, and Friday was her last day.

I may be wrong, but I believe Denver is the only market with 4 OTA English language 7-9 am local newscasts with KDVR, KWGN, KUSA on KTVD, and KMGH on KCDO. Plus KCNC doing OTT for at least the 7 am hour.

 

The funny part being from having worked at a news operation there, the Denver market was an early dead canary in the coal mine for declining overall TV viewership. Too many things to do there and ways to enjoy being outside for people to watch TV on a fixed schedule. HUTs were consistently low and minuscule viewership in key demos were celebrated as wins.

45 years in the broadcasting business is enough for Greg Floyd. He's retiring from WRGB at the end of the year, the third longtimer to do so in the region after their own Liz Bishop back in May and WTEN's Steve Caporizzo back in June.

I didn't realize this until now but last night was Shelley Kirk's last night at WEHT and now entered retirement after 35+ years there.

 

There's already a studio named after retired anchor Brad Byrd. Its only fitting that his longtime partner on the anchor desk gets a newsroom named after her.

 

I have a feeling that the Wayne Hart Weather Center will soon follow.

Another legendary face in Portland, Steve Dunn, is calling it a career.

 

By the end of the year, one of the longest anchor duos in the country will be broken up once Steve Dunn anchors his last KATU newscast in mid-December so just before Christmas.

Since it's more of a catch-all thing between the switch of the CW from WUAB to WBNX in Cleveland, I'll post here.

 

YouTubeTV has dropped WUAB from it's carriage.  I checked yesterday, and all of the WUAB programming was "not available online" on the service.  Basically, the same error with the eye crossed out for anything that's not cleared to run "online".  Today, the channel was completely gone from YTTV. 

 

Shame that they got dropped in Cleveland while WANF is still available as an independent in Atlanta (along with Peachtree Sports Network.)  Maybe a deal with Rock Entertainment Sports and WUAB is forthcoming?

 

Meanwhile over on WBNX, they are now carrying (a rebroadcast?) of New Day Cleveland at 3pm and "Local News" at 11pm?

 

We'll have to see if WBNX is actually programming WJW news at 11pm which has been long vacant in Cleveland since the 1994 switch. 

They did air a rebroadcast of WJW's 10pm news in 1995 and 1996 at 11pm before FOX took over WJW when WBNX was an independent station.

This is a concern. I know this thread ain't about technology or social media, but I'm posting it here because WKMG got hit by this action.

 

The post in reference is up on her IG meaning Meta must've been called out hard enough to bring it up and back.

 

I already know social media is awful (I'm not posting as much as I used to except for X and Bluesky but even for info posts only) and its only about to get worse, thanks to AI.

 

If this can hit a station, especially a meteorologist's pro IG, then it can hit anyone.

Regarding my prior post, WJW is now producing an 11:00 p.m. newscast that airs on WBNX, which is now the CW station of Cleveland as of September 1st.

Some changes at WUSA9 - Annie Yu moved from the AM news to the noon and 4p show, Simone De Alba moves back to mornings.

 

The Get Up DC brand has been officially retired, back to a basic WUSA9 News at 5am/6am. A shame, the show was not great but the logo looked cool.

Kara Sundlun has been at WFSB Hartford for 25 years and a well known face in Connecticut during that time.

 

Its long enough to get some recognition into the Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. And yes, Great Day co-host and meteorologist Scot Haney is in it as well, thus why he delivered the news.

Weigel has started to air weather updates for Green Bay from WDJT during commercial breaks on WMEI so that the 'rusted knob' viewers of MeTV don't have to change the channel to find out the forecast.

 

It's a very small thing, but compared to WRNN/Bridge/Innovate providing no commitment of service to their markets, is downright refreshing.

She is now at Orlando's WESH to anchor Sunday mornings, including their new 9 a.m. hour on Sundays which is also simulcast on WKCF.

More news on WFXT. Starting Monday, they're adding another hour at 1 p.m. and yet another one at 3 p.m.

 

In other words, WFXT will be on with news and weather from 5 a.m.-2 p.m., 3-7 p.m., and 10-11:35 p.m. on weekdays (also, the rebroadcasts that go from 12:35-5 a.m.)

 

If you now combine everything that the Boston market has to offer (including WMUR), you're talking about local news at any time on weekdays from 4:30 a.m.-11:35 p.m. starting Monday.
