newseider 26
Lester is finally back in the main studio tonight for the first time since the pandemic began I believe. I’ve missed all the cool shots they can do there! They stopped cool shots even before the pandemic and normally just did OTS shots except on Sundays but it seems they brought it all back. For the sake of adding links to visuals, here are some newscasts to compare -- (not an accurate timeline / just a generalization) 1) Full body (old) - February 1, 2019 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKopcSsgTGY 2) Pre-pandemic 2020 - January 2, 2020 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs8eV6_frJw 3) Pandemic 2020 - October 30, 2020 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvIP67WhAJU 4) Refreshed main studio shots - November 9, 2020 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18043-nbc-nightly-updates-set/#findComment-253306 Share on other sites

C Block 1566
Just in time for election day. Reminds me a little bit of when ABC redid the World News Tonight set and graphics with a look that was maligned on here as "public bathroom tile." So glad that Les is back at 30 Rock after over half a year at his home studio. 11/15 UPDATE: Les Holt returned to anchoring Nightly from his home studio as of last Thursday. 11/10/2020 UPDATE: Les Holt continues to use his home studio to anchor breaking news coverage--just like he did recently--and NIghtly News: Kids Edition. Weeters 1916
To be fair, this update debut last week and was used mostly by Brian Williams on MSNBC. I have a hunch they'll revert it back from "election mode" in the next week or so. NowBergen 681
I'm not surprised he stands throughout the broadcast. WNBC down the hall in 3K adopted that approach several months ago. MediaZone4K 2176
The Nightly News studio looks good. Again NBC comes out as stronger of the big 4 in graphics and set design. I'm liking the gloss, shine, and slight transparency to NN's lower thirds, rather than the boxy, Windows 10 style, flat, solid color graphics trend. I wish they'd apply something like this to MSNBC's plain white box look (especially their COVID graphics). The abbreviated Nightly News intro is too short. It'd be cool if they utilized something similar the late Brokaw early Williams era opening sequence. DMA 135
I'm not a huge fan of the tweaks - I thought the initial wood version of the set was nice and contemporary feeling, with a slight midcentury vibe. This red white and blue hi-tech look kind of reminds me of CBS's current evening news look, which I do like, but I'm not sure this works as well.
