StudioTech 15 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Don't forget about WNBC slashing 5pm news. And if you want to count the Spanish language stations, WNJU a few months ago quietly ended their morning, midday and weekend newscasts.
Vlad 330 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 And if you want to count the Spanish language stations, WNJU a few months ago quietly ended their morning, midday and weekend newscasts. Wow, what a horrible economy... This is really beyond abysmal, lol.
DMA 135 Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Here's the signature I was talking about, it plays on the homepage: http://www.wpix.com/media/mp3file/2009-09/49069270.mp3

DMA 135 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 I said earlier that they're using a WGN America style signature in promos, and on the website.
Weeters 1969 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I said earlier that they're using a WGN America style signature in promos, and on the website. That better not be a new theme is what I was hinting at.

NYNews 54 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 The NY Daily News reports that Jackie Hyland will anchor along with Peter Thorne for the weekend editions of the 6:30pm newscasts, with Lolita Lopez handling sports.
nynewslover 279 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 does any1 have any idea what the new set or graphics will look like?
DMA 135 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 I doubt that there would be new graphics, the graphics are relatively recent. There are photos of the set build on WPIX's facebook site, but they stopped taking photos of the build, to keep the final look a surprise. I hate that signature though, it sounds like a MIDI.
Vlad 330 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 At this point, there is a little Less than a week. Left for the big debut. They are probably working around the clock to make this a smooth sailing and transition.
DMA 135 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 According to a few articles in the Examiner and the News, the set is already completed, I guess they're just doing rehearsals and adjustments now.
DMA 135 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 2 new photos were added to Facebook today...they're quite a tease!
Vlad 330 Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hmm, based on these pictures, I'll have to say that WPIX may likely have the best set in the DMA. I'd say WCBS is probably the next in line to redesign their set, they've had theirs since 2002 or 2003. They definitely need an update. WABC may be a close second, but then again one can question what can they really do with so little space.. Perhaps when the economy is better as they say..
Geoffrey 873 Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hmm, based on these pictures, I'll have to say that WPIX may likely have the best set in the DMA. How do you figure that WPIX "may likely" have the best set based on an extreme close-up picture?
Weeters 1969 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 How do you figure that WPIX "may likely" have the best set based on an extreme close-up picture? +1 internets.
Vlad 330 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 How do you figure that WPIX "may likely" have the best set based on an extreme close-up picture? Overall pictures, not just those two.. And plus their set was always one of the nicest in this DMA, the rest of the sets seem to be dated, I guess a close second would be WNYW, but the rest really don't seem all that breathtaking...
Dave Lampstein 124 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I don't think it was their set that was anything remarkable but the way it was lit. Honestly, think about it... the layout wasn't anything spectacular but the lighting gave it tons of depth.

Honestly, think about it... the layout wasn't anything spectacular but the lighting gave it tons of depth. That's actually a great point... They used cool filters and other techniques and it just made the set look very different. I don't know much about lighting other than WPIX's set was done in a really neat way.

I don't know much about lighting other than WPIX's set was done in a really neat way. That is true, but one thing that I found annoying was there was one light that kept dimming and lighting up again and again.
NYNews 54 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 So is the set going to be debut on the morning news or from what I'm getting, at 6:30pm?
Ntropolis 598 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 PLEASE, not another boring three-note theme. Those seem to be "in" these days...
abric 181 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 The new set will premiere at 6:30pm on Monday.
