News24/7 3 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 NBC Bay Area's Jessica Aguirre announced Friday that KNTV will be getting a "Sleek Modern Brand New Set" within the next month. By her description it sounds like good ol' Clickspring might be the designer? In the mean time they are broadcasting from a very tight temporary set possibly in the C studio.
C Block 1566 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I hope they keep the newsroom backdrop. I always liked it.
News24/7 3 Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 I do too, HOWEVER... Since they essentially laid off all of the people that work in the news room, there isn't much to see anymore other than the automated control room in the background. Perhaps we will see more news operations, such as KNTV and WNBC, stray away from newsroom studios within the next few years.

I'd assume the studio would be part of the change, and seeing as this is supposedly going to set the precedent for the rest of the local operations, it will be interesting to compare the studios when they both get their respective updates.

Many stations have laid off so many people that the newsrooms are virtually empty during morning and late newscast times. WFLD doesn't do reports from the newsroom using the newsroom itself as the backdrop for that reason. WMAQ has decorated many of the empty desks in their newsroom to make them look like they're being used since the newsroom is the main backdrop of their tower studio.

News24/7 3 Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Their [KNTV's] current, or now former news desk wasn't made for 16:9. They had to rotate the set at an angle so it all fit in the shot. Hopefully they'll get a "real" Weather Center set instead of a cubicle with some TVs and a logo banner
TennTV1983 806 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Those big ass monitors on top of the news desk ruin the look.
bhratbrat 437 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Those keyboards look like the same ones I use at work.
News24/7 3 Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 That's still the temp set, right? Yes, as matter of fact, it looks like it's the Telemundo 48 studio with a temporary wall blocking the view of the newsroom and the messy CNBC studio equipment. Here's the studio when KSTS uses it.
caliwxdude 254 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Ran across these photos posted yesterday on the Today in the Bay Facebook fan page of anchors Brent Cannon and Laura Garcia-Cannon rehearsing on the new set with their twins in tow: Surprise... it looks like a Clickspring job. Also it appears that the studio has been reoriented so the anchor desk faces the newsroom, opposite from the old design. The first picture is taken from the newsroom looking into the back-right corner of the studio, where the chroma key walls used to be. Looks on target for launch at the beginning of February sweeps.
sfomspphl 498 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 One of the nicest sets the market has seen....the scale of the skyline shot makes an otherwise small area look quite grand.
Amra 171 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I like it. And is it me or does Garvin Thomas looks a little like Bill Ritter?
C Block 1566 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm a bit disappointed that they moved the set away from the newsroom, but otherwise, it looks great!
Guest Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm kinda in love with it... but they need to cover up the front of that desk. No one wants to see their legs.
Jess 1116 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 WCAU has had the same type of desk for about two years and there hasn't been any problems with it...
alaskanews 122 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 WCAU has had the same type of desk for about two years and there hasn't been any problems with it... No more wearing jeans/shorts
Guest Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 WCAU has had the same type of desk for about two years and there hasn't been any problems with it... I'm not saying there's a problem with it, just seems ugly.
News24/7 3 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Chief Meteorologist Jeff Ranieri likes it so much, he kissed the desk at 6pm tonight :rofl!:
