Jess 1116 Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 50 Years of Eyewitness News this weekend Package https://abc7ny.com/4702761/?fbclid=IwAR2UyZ-CN6sRoK-tTnHublU2L9k4YtP3sv2G4IZAtfcGdxQh9S74zuBh-Og Wonderful package. Got me from the little montage of sunburst-yellow logos at the beginning. (Yay for including the iconic 1979-82 logo!) Bonus points for spotlighting the REAL stars of the format: the Eyewitness News TEAM. Roger and Bill might have been the greatest anchor team in television news history, but that cast of characters around them deserve equal points for making that newscast shine. NJ Burkett is absolutely right when he calls WABC the "New York Yankees of television news". I can't think of any other station with such a pedigree. Maybe.... MAYBE WPVI. Old clips https://abc7ny.com/eyewitnessnews50/ Some of those are clearly from YouTube uploads (some of which I personally did)... but they own the footage so I can't really complain. https://abc7ny.com/community-events/eyewitness-news-anchor-roger-grimsby-profile-(1982)/4647748/ Great look at WABC's greatest-ever talent (sorry Bill Beutel). 5
Samantha 2901 Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 A WWAY 1992 newscast. The Image Leader...in the 90s...yeah not such a good fit. 4
ChesapeakeTV 312 Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Oh, I can do you one better than 1992...how about 1996? Edited November 18, 2018 by Guest 3
Info Junkie 1286 Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Oh, I can do you one better than 1992...how about 1996? Ouch. That is cheaper than the sound a baby chick makes. (Heh heh heh... ) Anyways you like Des Moines? (Vince was gone 4 months later to anchor in Providence, RI): Or El Paso? (Btw I’m gonna update my KTSM video once i have the new opens they just unveiled sent to me - apparently they don’t livestream?) 2

Info Junkie 1286 Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Here's something for The ID Junkies KTVT compilation, it's most of the evening edition of KTVT's Metroplex News from Memorial Day 1979. Fun fact, these usually at the halfway mark of their 9pm movie! And here it is, now including anything before CBS. 2
sfomspphl 498 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Bill Bonds, Jerry Hodak, and the Arctic Express. Great open - no VO, extra dramatic edit of the theme, and straight to Bill Bonds on the flourish of the horn. 3
sfomspphl 498 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 WXYZ had its 70th last month and did a 20 minute long retrospective... https://www.wxyz.com/70years?_ga=2.43389413.1714320122.1542677006-1060012468.1542677006 3
WWUpdate 1292 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Great open - no VO, extra dramatic edit of the theme, and straight to Bill Bonds on the flourish of the horn. But someone forgot to balance the weather center camera. 5
bmasters1 412 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 But someone forgot to balance the weather center camera. I see what you mean: no color balancing!
WWUpdate 1292 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) I see what you mean: no color balancing! Yeah, I meant to write "white-balance." Edited November 20, 2018 by Guest

hmaxhanson 650 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 An update from Channel 31 in Sacramento back in the beginning of it's news operation in 1988, I recognize this theme from many a commercials:
C Block 1566 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) KDVR had a pretty unremarkable history from the time it signed on the air in 1983 until when it became a Fox O&O in 1995 and started a news department in 2000. But this promo theme from 1987 back when they branded as "TV-31" is, uh, a sign of the times. The station's first logo as seen here is also rather unusual too: Edited November 21, 2018 by Guest 4

Info Junkie 1286 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Looks like I’ve identified a VO! Or technically, NW Directions did. WJLA’s VO from 1987 to 1994/5 was named Sheldon Smith. 3
Samantha 2901 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 A bit of a diversion, but Smith is apparently kind of legendary (he got a nice union award some time back)... He also is the voice of political ads for Republicans in all 50 states and Guam and has been doing political ads for 44 years. 5
