Now more than ever, there's pressure for anchors to do more. The days of anchors showing up at 4:15 to read the news at 5 and 6, take a three hour dinner break, and then come back for the 10 are over. It's just not sustainable anymore for stations to pay anchors elevated salaries only to have them on air at an anchor desk for 2-3 hours a day. But I don't think the answer always has to be a feature pkg. Some stations are having anchors do podcasts or streaming shows in between newscasts.

Respectfully, instead of dumping on said opinions, which ones do you disagree with? Personally, I feel like the "truth" is somewhere between the two strongest takes given, upthread.

This topic had me thinking of legendary South Florida newslady Ann Bishop (1930-97) and she spoke openly about experiences of working in TV news as a reporter and anchor, and loved doing both, and below are links to videos from 1985 interview she did that I found informative, and maybe could be relevant and shed some light... Bishop was old school and from the Appointment Television era.

Ahhh. I see what they did. They're using a South Florida-generic website to cover both WSFL (The Spot - South Florida 39) AND WHDT (The Spot - South Florida 9). If you go to Where to Watch, it covers both stations but uses a generic The Spot - South Florida logo without the channel numbers. Now, we'll wait to see if "KDF-TV" will do the same or not.

This week, it appears to mostly be repeats of Ridiculousness, The Big Bang Theory, and The Office. So it's Comedy Central with a shorter name.

News regarding The Spot... Scripps has launched a new nationwide website for its Independent brand. This comes as WNPX launched on time as The Spot - Nashville 28 today, pushing ION to WTVF 5.2. Also, WMYD has rebranded as The Spot - Detroit 20, and even WSFL has rebranded as The Spot - South Florida. This leaves "KDF-TV" out of Corpus Christi and WHDT in WPB as the last two that have yet to adopt The Spot branding.

I really doubt that Carr and those on the Commish on The FCC read the comments there going to do what they're going to do no matter what in my opinion. I get it for those that are passionate about it want to be on the record more power to those that do it. This goes to the court The FCC will lose.

Not surprised I saw it coming when they split the cable channels last year.

It is good for the anchors to do some report or stories to keep the reporting chops on top of there game. I agree with what was said in the topic at hand.

You know what's going to happen in about 1 year before Trump leaves or is removed from office, right? The FCC is going to approve the acquisition of NBCUniversal by ParamountWarnerBrothersDiscoverySkydance. Functionally, Carr doesn't give a shit if CBS and NBC are owned by one company, especially because it will take Fallon and Meyers off the air and put Bari over NBCNews too. Why have any independent local media at all?
