  1. Today
  2. The end of an era at WAGA FOX5 Atlanta. The I-Team is no more after 48 years. Dana Fowle and Johnny Edwards have been let go. [story is paywalled at the AJC, but you can read the first couple of sentences for free] https://www.ajc.com/arts-entertainment/2025/06/like-a-death-in-the-family-fox-5-atlanta-eliminates-i-team-after-48-years/
  3. I think I might've screwed up the file, so here's a YouTube upload if it doesn't work KGTV open update 2025.mov
  4. Haven't been able to find if these have been mentioned online before - sometime in late April, KGTV modified their opens, making them all talent opens. Most of their opens follow this template, with the morning opens continuing to use a theme from the original 2019 Scripps music package KGTV open update 2025.mov
  5. I'm assuming that someone at KUSI agrees with your opinion, since most of their more recent newscasts have let the theme play for several seconds longer after the open animation finishes
  6. Also stunned because investigative reports were one of the more heavily promoted segments on Fox 5 News. Unfortunately it seems Scripps and Tegna like cuts are creeping their way into FOX. First the elimination of sports on Fox 26, now the I Team on FOX 5 ATL is gone, what's next? Hopefully that happens, and hopefully post-employment noncompete clauses do not apply. The fact that a company can still control where you work after laying you off is criminal. I've always liked FOX O&Os for being creative with original content to film hours of airtime. WTXF's Roast of Mike Jerrick on Fox Local, the Isiah Factor on KRIV and Fox News Edge on WOFL are a few examples.
  7. Australia ABC is in the middle of converting ABC Entertains and ABC News to high-definition (I know, right? In 2025?). It has started doing so in Tasmania (ABT; home to Hobart) and South Australia (ABS; home to Adelaide) and is doing a staged roll-out to the upcoming states across the country: Tuesday, June 17th - Western Australia (ABW; home to Perth) and Northern Territory (ABD; home to Darwin) Thursday, June 19th - Queensland (ABQ; home to Brisbane) Tuesday, June 24th - New South Wales (ABN; home to Sydney) and Australian Capital Territory (ABC; home to Canberra) Thursday, June 26th - Victoria (ABV; home to Melbourne) ABC will continue to offer ABC TV in SD and HD as well as ABC Kids/ABC Family in SD. https://help.abc.net.au/hc/en-us/articles/12564144195855-ABC-NEWS-Channel-and-ABC-Entertains-is-moving-to-HD-in-June?fbclid=IwY2xjawK4enhleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFQNmRLQlVyWHBIQlJwbDlXAR7tClm1QTAAO3Vw4L5Ytu0eVWbtcLannqsrYeA6EJixoigO6ewZSsNDkLsX_A_aem_YF7iK_JVHoK0ZSchQicppQ
  8. As long as the journalists don’t have a non-compete or can be let out it, I’m sure one of the stations will soon.
  9. I am shocked. I've always thought of WAGA's, WJW's, and KXAN's teams as the pillar of investigative journalism today. To think WAGA shut theirs down will create a chilling effect across Atlanta. WSB and WANF might scoop them up if they wanted to.
  10. Jay Tust is wrapping up his long 14-year run at KTVB Boise to join the Boise State Athletics department to be a part of the new Broncos Studios. https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/local/sports-director-jay-tust-leaving-ktvb-nearly-14-years-joining-boise-state-athletics/277-370297d6-3c9f-4aef-94fd-c90b529b62e9
  11. From what I understand, the new GMA set will not be radically different from the current one. Guess we’ll see soon enough.
  12. So far, the set doesn't look bad in action, although a different graphic for the monitor behind the desk for the two shot would be an upgrade. Haven't been able to get any screen grabs though.
  13. Looks like they’re getting close to unveiling the new stand up area near the desk. The scope of work ‘appears’ to be in areas where the old Fox 32 logo was featured. While I commend them for trying to blend the old with the new, I’m not sure I like the end result. Maybe it will look better when fully lit.
  14. I'm shocked. This is the beginning of FOX trying to cut costs by eliminating things that not only support the community but also give the station creditability. Hope the team finds work soon.
  15. Hearst's KSBW (Salinas, California) is boasting about being number one in the ratings, but if this is a W -- as the kids say -- it's a lowercase W. You can read the station's press release here, but let's get beyond the usual spin and look at the actual numbers cited. For reference, Nielsen counts 230,950 households in the Monterey/Salinas market, and parenthesis represents the total share of the entire market...not just people who happen to be watching TV news. 12 pm: 6,100 households (.02%) 5 pm: 15,100 households (.06%) 6 pm: 17,500 households (.07%) 11 pm: 8,500 households (.03%) Saturday AM: 8,500 households (.03%) Sunday AM: 7,900 households (.03%) Saturday & Sunday PM: 13,400 households (.05%) A win is a win I suppose, but wow, not even one out of ten households in the market bother to watch the top-rated TV news station.
  16. Atlanta Fox O&O WAGA eliminated its investigative reporting team after nearly 50 years. Yes, we're talking nearly 50 YEARS of existence, which predates WAGA's flip to Fox. 17. Yesterday
  18. Brad Edwards is coming back to Central Iowa television starting in July as a contributor for WHO 13. https://who13.com/news/metro-news/brad-edwards-joining-who-13-as-a-contributor-on-july-1st/?fbclid=IwY2xjawK4PfhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHuQ6fKYmSZ5QY69kvVK-50NCt-Majz2PLgHQNnFfTLSdCzVnAqxQzxcvqtMh_aem_Vy6XL7S4JSUZrq9QNl-wyw
  19. Agreed. Most of the graphics put out by station groups have been bland. As for sets Nexstar been the most consistent with putting out decent sets.
  20. This evening, Stod 2 and the Icelandic Vodafone have completed a merger, and are now branding themselves as Syn. This rebrand is about to be the worst rebrand of 2025 ever. https://www.mbl.is/frettir/innlent/2025/06/12/vodafone_og_stod_2_verda_syn/
  21. Here's the announcement from this morning. Alyana will probably stick to 4:30-7am as Tam replaces her. Matt and Tam are probably the longest-reigning morning duo in the Valley at nearly 20 years together. https://6abc.com/post/tamala-edwards-says-goodbye-action-news-mornings-shes-not-going-far/16730863/
  22. Longtime WRAL anchor Charlie Gaddy has died.
  23. Meanwhile, fun throwback the last few days, as Michael has been off, but they've opted to keep Robin & George as a duo.
  24. They showed a teaser timelapse of the new studio, and it obviously doesn't show much, but don't be surprised if some general concepts carry over from Times Square. You get an idea of the size of the space in the first image. It's apparently the same size as The View's and Live's studios, but should feel even more open with no audience risers. In the second pic, you can make out wood-tone beams across the ceiling, a large, possibly L-shaped video wall to the left, and a curved desk against a video wall in the foreground. The desk looks like a stand-in for the final product, but it's thankfully a lot smaller than the outgoing model. In the back corner, you can make out some kind of non-video wall feature, though the short end wall (top right) is likely to be a giant screen. In addition to Charlie Gibson voicing a new team promo as the 50th anniversary festivities start to pick up, Diane Sawyer is likely to be in-studio on Monday, promoting a new sit-down interview she did with an actor.
  25. Yep. They're the same team for the most part when they were still Vivid Zero. Just under a different name after splitting from their parent company SmithGeiger.
  26. I wonder when/if Jessica Kartalija will anchor a newscast. I don't know if it's her decision, the station's decision, or there's some kind of non-compete clause at play. There's been plenty of times she could have filled in here and there.
  27. Not a big fan of that desk, but props to WPSD for providing renderings.
