  1. Thank you. Really, it does get old very fast. Some even bring her up when someone else is mentioned. I mean, Tracy and Troy did yesterday and today, and yet Cheryl's name was brought up just so we were all reminded how much she's disliked. There are people on Chicago TV that I don't like, and you know what I do? I change the channel. I really hated the Scott hire a year ago, and I still don't like that Mike got fired, but you just learn to live with it. Mike's been hired elsewhere, so go watch him. As for Cheryl, like it or not, she's come a long way in her delivery. Is she perfect? Hell no, but that falls on management, not her. Also, I saw that whole exchange with Ron. That was an exception, not the rule. He's usually more than cordial with her, which is all you really need. He's the same way with Phil, and was the same with Mike. If he'd been working with her for 20 years like he has with Jerry, they'd obviously have a better chemistry. Besides, Ron's likely hanging it up within a few years, so who cares if they're not cute and giggly together? That's not the anchor she'll spend most of her time next to.

  2. Good god almighty... There's a big difference depending on the stations management: Their previews are always very hard news heavy for their retooled 11pm...

  3. Sometimes in my iPad it gets annoying editing posts so apologies before hand for a double post. It looks like WHUT, the PBS TV station owned by Howard University in Washington, DC, will be participating in the spectrum auction according to this NY Times article. It doesn't specify if they will be channel sharing, shutting down the channel completely or continue to broadcast it on cable. However I could easily see them shutter than channel completely as they are a secondary PBS affiliate to both Maryland Public Television and WETA. All three public TV stations are carried widely on cable in both the Baltimore and Washington DMAs. Edit: After I posted this WSVNFan posted so it's not doubled.

  4. Mario Lopez is from Chula Vista CA. Just south of San Diego. Please accept our deepest apologies, as we did not intend to offend you with Mr Lopez... But shit happens! Sorry!

  5. They don't hurt, but I think they just have the better slate of 9pm shows, in general. The Tonight Show, a better-funded news division, and lowering viewer loyalty are also key factors. And, while many would expect that WLS has given WMAQ the most viewers, WBBM has been hurt the most by NBC's ascension. WGN's also broken into 2 and 7's late news totals.

  6. You brought her up yesterday dude... Right in your post about Cheryl and Troy... I can't change the channel since I'm not there but I'd hate to see WLS go the way of a station like WXYZ with a complete and utter implosion followed by bad moves and talent retirements and bad hires... This whole thing starting to feel oddly familiar to me...

  7. Well, like most veterans are blame-free. If they're that pissed that she got hired, they know who to bitch and complain to. Yet, most won't do it, and they know why... Someone gave her a great opportunity/money to join the station, she'd be pretty stupid not to take it. I get she needs a lot of seasoning, but there's no need to rip her every chance one gets. Like I said, blame the GM/ND for hiring her.

  8. I'd also say that Emmis Communications wasn't the best owner, but it was a start towards something better and they really stepped up after Hurricane Katrina when their entire building was flooded and had to be gutted, etc. Tom Benson stepped in with the financial support, but I'll never feel like Louisiana Media Company had the understanding of a true newsroom, which as we all know trickles down the line to what we see on television and our mobile devices. Many people don't like Raycom, but they stepped in at the right moment. That's what is lacking from WGNO -- leadership and commitment.

  9. Not really. And that's why I don't have a lot of respect for Scripps, if any.

  10. WSVN/Sunbeam and AT&T U-verse are at an impasse. If no agreement is made by Saturday at 12:00 Midnight, WSVN goes off the air on AT&T U-verse. DirecTV, DISH, Comcast and Atlantic Broadband, as well as FREE OTA, will continue to carry and receive WSVN.

  11. Not sure it's fair to compare a locally-produced show to those shown on ABC, FOX, etc... They are nowhere near the same level resource-wise, etc... Honestly, they are years away from being a network level (worthy) broadcast and I think they are OK with that for now.

  12. Your guess is as good as mine that there are definitely some turbulent times ahead over at 1960 Union. That's kinda odd for a TV station outside of the Eastern and Pacific time zones to have a newscast that late in the evening when everybody else goes no longer than 10:35pm on most nights.

  13. Not likely given the hundreds of applicants a San Diego wx opening will attract. They are all dying to come here and will work for fish...just like Shamu at Sea World.

  14. Yeah, when ABC 7 is better at executing a countdown, you know you're screwed. I mean, seriously, Mark licked Janet's cheek at midnight for their infamous annual smooch, and it was STILL the better program.

  15. As bad as ABC 7's special can be (and usually is), there are no surprises. It's nothing if it isn't consistent. NBC gave viewers no good reason to come back next year, plain and simple.

  16. Chi-Town Rising was as bad as you thought it would be. They waited until 30 seconds after midnight to count down the new year. And Mario Lopez? Seriously? Nothing says Chicago like having Slater host your local NYE celebration. And I've never met a local that uses the saying "Chi-town". You're better off watching Janet Davies and Mark Giangreco embarrass themselves on ABC 7 every New Year's Eve.
