TEGNA is NOT buying another station group anywhere in the near future. I will eat a Trump steak if they even show interest in one within the next 24 months.2 points
-
Maybe on Monday? They usually debut new things at the start of the first week of whichever month the change will happen.2 points

Which is why I mentioned that they'd have to divest at least half of Tribune's stations to 3rd parties2 points

I thought we shredded them and reused them for script paper...2 points

A thousand dollars says he doesn't. Please take the bet, I could use the money.2 points

Their entire branding since 2007 has been about "balanced news coverage" so this was definitely out of left field for them. Pretty much everyone in the GB-A market except WFRV brands on presenting both sides for major stories, even if it's just five seconds of a random bystander saying the opposite.2 points

How do you know ABC wants to yank WFAA's affiliation?2 points

I'm a big fan of Rosanna Scotto, however, something definitely rubbed me the wrong way in this interview: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/rosanna-scotto-tells-ted-cruz-he-wont-win-new-york/168618 So is she implying that it's okay for Donald to say he agrees with partial birth abortion because that's in line with New York values and because he's from New York he can classify at as such? I strongly disagree with that assertion. I don't want to get into a political discussion or into a discussion about what's politically correct, but if it's not okay for one person to say, it's not okay for another person to say either! Also, as a newsperson I don't think she should be labeling the conversation as a "dust up", seems unprofessional since it was far from that. Disclaimer: I support neither Trump nor Cruz.2 points

Yeah, that was a tad overkill. Usually stations doing similar stories like would highlight the history of the station and where the future is taking them but this is the first that I saw that kisses up to the owners of the station so much. But I guess since it's the flagship station, we shouldn't be too surprised.2 points

Considering that he's the Republican front-runnner, I can't say I'm surprised. Setting aside the fact they're basically a propaganda outfit for the Republicans, you do have to give WBFF credit from turning itself from an independent station with no news department into a major Fox affiliate with a growing news department. Congrats to WBFF on 45 years. According to FTVLive, it sounds like they tried to get interviews from the other candidates in order to give it some sign of "balance". You can tell that they haven't been a Sinclair station for long because balance isn't a 4-letter word to them like it is to the corporate folks in Hunt Valley.2 points

Even though the 2011 gfx update (8/8) was indeed a Monday launch, the 2008 graphics (5/24) and the 2011 set debut (9/24) were Saturday launches.1 point

...and the '99 music and opens switch to the current EWN music (and brief "ABC7 Eyewitness News" branding) happened on a Monday in August, too!1 point

The 2011 graphics launched on a Monday in August. I remember random crap like that.1 point
-
Graphics have usually debuted on Mondays and usually during the noon or early evening newscasts. The studio debuted on a Sunday; maybe some new graphics launched then but most were in place already before the launch.1 point

Regarding Tegna and the Tribune stations, there are several they could pick up easily as duopoly pieces without touching the cap and at a fairly low price, in Washington DC (although it breaks up a news partnership), Houston, Dallas and Portland OR (if the FCC permits such).1 point

I vaguely recall seeing new graphics debut over the weekend in the past. Gives them a chance to test things out live on the weekend shows and iron out kinks before the more-watched weekday shows.1 point

Really doubt WTKR is going to get Ratner or Chapin. I don't mind Matt Tacka. But heck maybe we can get Ntropolis to do the voiceovers?1 point

First, I wouldn't say Tribune Media is "struggling." Second, the renewal of their CW affiliation agreements is totally unrelated to their debt load. One has nothing to do with the other and why you tied those two together puzzles me.1 point

If TEGNA does plan to buy Tribune Broadcasting, TV stations in Seattle, St Louis, Denver, Norfolk, and more are doomed to the FCC's duopoly rule.1 point

New M&A regarding Sinclair tonight. They're acquiring KJZZ from Larry H. Miller Communications for $6.5M. It'll become a sister to KUTV.1 point

It smells more of, "we want to retire the Cox-era 'TV-36' brand, but KRON is holding onto MyTV for dear life, so ehhh... 'KTVU Plus.'"1 point

WFAA losing it's affiliation and it getting sold to Hearst are both unlikely scenerios especially, as I have just mentioned, that by August, they will effectively own the largest non-O&O stations for ABC, NBC, and CBS1 point

Does anyone have a full buyout casualty list (of the names we know so far)?1 point

<3_<3 The first video has two KPNX opens (10pm and 5pm) from what I'm going to call the "Indian Girl" series. This was the first series of opens using News Station and the only one with talent opens. Only a morning open had shown up prior to today. These are seriously impressive and have even more excellent imagery than I knew was in this package. The second two are KSAZ promos from the Fox affiliation switch in 1994. One is a station promo "It's a Whole New Spirit". The other is a very well done set of news promos voiced by John B. Wells. Both are real treats!1 point

Well Scotto & Trump are good friends, so that probably why she justified what she was saying.1 point

Fair enough. I meant to say that in the 90's, KSDK was the leading station in the market. But NBC's sluggish run in the 2000's combined with the mismanagement of KSDK caused it to sink in the ratings while KMOV rose in the ratings to be the new leader in the market.1 point

WLUK has done all they can to stay away from the "Fox News" stereotype as much as possible for years...they must've wanted to throw up disclaimers that corporate would never want. Milwaukee and Green Bay though really had no say without in-house news departments, though they have the big advantage of nobody watching them on Sunday morning at all so it was easily buried.1 point
