  1. I really wonder what they're trying to accomplish with this... It's not like the morning show really needs promotion.

  2. I do like Bryant Gumbel (and it's Gumbel, not Gumble), but let's not act like he was completely above the fray and above any intra-show squabbles. Just search 'Bryant Gumbel memo' and you'll see what I am referring to. I mean, I love revisionist history as much as the next guy but I love how some here are acting like some of this internal stuff and "big egos" is something new with the edition of the program than it was in prior editions of Today or other news shows in general. There have been big egos in television and television news as long as both have been around, this is nothing new.

  3. Does anyone think that CBS3 has improved since all of the changes?

  4. On Monday there will be a benefit concert called "Louisiana Rising" for flood relief hosted by Harry Connick, Jr (perfect timing for a show launch). I found out about this because WBAL was airing a promos saying it will be on MeTV at 8PM (it's also airing on WBFF's This TV 45.3) Based on their website the show will air on most (if not all) Raycom stations and a large group of others. The shows sponsored by Raycom and Cox. There are many competing stations airing the broadcast (Like WBAL and WBFF) but some stations of sponsors aren't bothering to carry the broadcast and its airing on other stations. For example it's not airing on WSB (none in Atlanta) or WFTV in Orlando. However WFTV's competitors WESH (not sure what subchannel) and WKMG (on Cozi) are airing the broadcast. I would think of your group is sponsoring a big event you would want them to carry it even on a subchannel for maximum exposure. Think of how it would look PR wise if a station in Pittsburgh (in Cox's case) was carrying a benefit for a station in Louisiana. Shows a bit of commitment to helping others.

  5. All affiliates are starting to move their Logos and bugs out of the Safe zone now. the only ones left is CBS and CW. just recently ABC moved theirs to the corner. the first to do this was FOX.

  6. I've been recording WTWO's morning and WAWV's midday newscast to watch for changes since I work during the day. I watched both earlier and they started using the temporary set during WAWV's News at Noon. They mentioned a new look and set would be coming to both stations within the next few weeks. Didn't mention a single thing about going HD though(at least during that broadcast) which surprised me. I figured they'd be promoting it every chance they got, especially with how many people complain on their Facebook page. WDHN and KQTV are a few others that come to mind along with WIVT that need major work. Sadly, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

  7. It had better be a refresh; WTWO has now become Nexstar's ugly duckling since KMID and WMBD have both been refreshed.

  8. They didn't really have a choice. Keep in mind that it has only been a couple of years since Tribune (Media) emerged from bankruptcy, so they don't have a ton of money. Every decision they make has to be about increasing stock value and living within their means. Even though they can now air more sports programming uninterrupted, it's unclear whether they will 'go beyond' their current package(s) once renewal time comes around.

  9. I bet they wish they wouldn't have let all of those extra Cubs games go to WLS.

  10. Two and a Half Men isn't the solution, for sure. That said, if they're willing to throw in some local programming and specials, in a addition to the sports, it gives me some hope that they're not entirely taking the easy/lazy way out. Speaking of the sports coverage, if their carriage agreements remain roughly the same, you can expect (not counting baseball preseason) close to 150 game telecasts each year, and like 80% of those falling in primetime. Heck, they might not even take as many day games next baseball season with their newfound freedom. I'd imagine they might even make a play for a Thursday night (non-NBC or CBS) Bears game every so often. So, even if the sitcoms are on like 3 weeknights a week, that's definitely not as bad as it could be. Octobers are gonna suck, though, no matter what.
