  1. Here hoping Hearst would buy BNS/THR. An employee at BNS said they would love to see that, because of Hearst' strong ownership. I agreed with them, because I wanted TEGNA to get BNS/THR but TEGNA flirting with Nexstar(no bueno ) on that idea.

  2. Doing a quick scan of TV markets 10-100 and there are a few possibilities: --Raleigh/Durham + Fresno: I could see a scenario where ABC cashes out of the region and decides to sell WTVD. (It also gives them a solid #2 in a growing Southeast market.) Same deal with KFSN, except they get a significant market leader. --Columbus: Word was that the Wolfe family was looking to sell, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. However, if Scripps gives them a nice offer for WBNS, could they change their minds? --Oklahoma City/Tulsa: I don't know enough about KOTV/KWTV's ownership situation, but if Griffin were looking to get out of the business, Scripps would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it? --Providence: WLNE's probably too far gone, but Scripps could probably buy it and give it a WKBW-style revamp. Just thinking out loud...

  3. Feder's off this week and none of the other regular blogs/publications have mentioned this, so YOU READ IT HERE FIRST, dammit. No bio online, and I don't know if or when he'll ever make it on-air, but it looks like ABC 7 has added a digital journalist in 2017 Northwestern grad Jesse Kirsch. His non-station Twitter bio references time spent with the network and WLNS in Lansing. He was also news director of the school's student news product. https://twitter.com/JesseKirschABC7 His first stories... http://abc7chicago.com/society/vietnam-vet-reunited-with-lost-purple-heart-medal-/1840414/ http://abc7chicago.com/sports/46-year-cubs-season-ticket-holder-wants-a-repeat-title/1857824/ The reporters are officially getting younger than me. It's hell to get old.

  4. Honestly, I thought of that possibility (but didn't post about it) and felt they might actually fit quite well. There are 8 conflicts and 2 new duopolies created (the Speculatron post I mentioned them in more details), but it is a lot less messy than Sinclair-Tribune and the stations actually feel like they belong together. Combined, their national reach would be 58.5%. That *should* fit within the adjusted cap.

  6. No here hoping that BNS would never be Scripps orbit. Hearst would keep the legacy alive!

  8. How? Nexstar is seriously hitting the cap, with or without the UHF discount.

  9. It's something they're doing during sweeps. I'm sure this came about out of the relationship they have through the Welcome America Festival.

  11. I knew former sister station used to do the "forecast first" before they went to Hearst. They would have a new logo already when they switched graphics and plus the WSLS 10 logo is exactly 20 years old. Logo debuted on April 14, 1997.

  12. KIVI at least looked more interesting than KTVB, which in terms of appearance and identity seemed years behind the curve in the early 90s...
