  2. I mean, he shouldn't, considering he now goes on at 5. Did it appear to be pre-taped?

  4. Dan better get a liveshot off before this becomes "yesterdays news" - Because trump with the Pope is the big story tomorrow. This will add 41 more stations at tribune that have no idea who Dan Mannerino is. Whoever thought viewers at the 42 stations are going to switch from wall-to-wall 24 hour coverage by CNN & FNC back to their local stations for 3 minutes to watch Dan AND then switch back to FNC & CNN has no clue about TV News. Though better Dan for 3 minutes than 5 Minutes of Rambling Minutia panned off as "exclusive details" by Mario Diaz. I guess new GM Chris Wayland has a better "FEEL" for Dan than Mario - or DeLorenzo who really is the only reporter on staff that can adequately appear as reporting serious news. As of today Dan has had an average response of 1 on his tweets from Manchester, we can only assume it's Dan's Mom

  5. As for the "camera" opens, I think WCVB was the first one with them way back in 95- mainly because an image of their satellite dishes would be used for every other station's intros (the image of the dishes that would "shrink" to reveal the images of anchors). WBAL and WTAE I believe started using the graphics/music around the same time.

  6. Wow, Tom stayed for the late news? Typical situation used to be that Tom would go home, and Jim would come in. Maybe Jim was also unavailable tonight.

  7. Erika Martin handles the weekend evenings, unless she's leaving (which I doubt). It took a while to fill that weekend slot after Brittney Shipp left and went to Cali. Who's handles the weekend mornings?

  8. I'm new to this forum, but I have a somewhat strange fascination with previous Hearst graphics, especially the "camera" graphics that were used 1995-2004 (updated in 1998). Now here's what I'm curious about: - around which time did a particular station start using the camera graphics, including the 1998 update - the thinner L3s in the updated camera were in Franklin Gothic in the blue area while in Bank Gothic in the red/black strip below, unlike the first version which was all in Bank Gothic. Did they debut in very late 1999 or early 2000? Which station first used it? - WESH, when they switched to these graphics in 1999, used L3s that appeared to be in a shiny lavender on top while white on bottom. What other Hearst stations used that exact color scheme in '99 (WAPT)? - I'm from New Mexico, and I remember when KOAT used the camera graphics. More recently I watched videos on the Internet of segments from KOAT newscasts from the fall of 1999. They already switched to a new set (looked almost exactly like the one WTAE used at the time) but were still using the last graphics package from when they were owned by Pulitzer. But is it possible that from December 1999 until January 2000, only the news and talent opens were from the HA camera graphics package while everything else being from the Pulitzer package? And when they completed the switch over in January 2000, did the L3s use the same color scheme WESH used in the fall of 1999? I know that when KSBW began using the HA graphics in '99, only the news opens and talent opens were from that package. Everything else was from their 1997 package before Smith Broadcasting swapped the station to HA. - About the package that succeeded the camera (call it "ring"), I read that it debuted in 2003 along with Jerome Gilmer's Hearst-Argyle news music package. But most stations still used the camera graphics, even though they dropped Image News or The B Package. Which station debuted the ring graphics?

  9. I see. It appears that in 2009 the refreshes coincided with more stations going to HD and they seemed to be standardized for the most part. The tickers, lower thirds, and the full screen graphics templates appear to be the same (or extremely similar - guess equipment wasn't as standardized then). The openings and the full screen backgrounds appear to be where they differed.

  10. The theme used in the regular open kind of sounds like the music that WIS used in this tease.

  11. You do realize you have to go back so far, and there a few WCPO/WLWT that were posted on youtube this year. Most of the time I don't go all the way back or have the time to check every selection out.

  12. Figured out that it was live. There were clues such as the live shots behind Tom's graphics, the time stamp on the radar loops, and the tease to sports featured Tom on the desk. Good on Tom, I would have expected most weather people to pre-tape and not bother staying late.

  13. Does Skilling pre-tape his weather if the 9:00 is delayed due to a Sports broadcast?

  17. They move the desk and the video wall from the old set, into a different studio (across the hall?) as a temp spot. While their main studio where the old set was is being gutted for the new set. This is almost a similar practice that WLS & KABC did as well. WLS moved its old 2006 set to a different studio, but they had to first use a smaller replica of their old set (in another studio, that desk was small as hell) until the move of their "actual" old set was completed. Before KABC moved portions of its 2006 set to a temp spot, they used the station's newsroom (only for one morning). And I think (non O&O) WSB did it with their old set as well.

  20. I apologize in advance for any quality issues or background noises but it's going to have to do... 11pm Open: 11pm Transition to break: One thing that's interesting is that they use different music for their 11pm... it's still Inergy but not a cut I've heard before...

  21. No kidding, I'm starting to wonder now if their theme music will even change with this, too. They're ditching their 2014 graphics even though they're only about three years old, with that plus the new set and new logo, why not go all out?

  22. Looks like they ripped up the main area of the set including the video wall and the crystalline skyline. I guess after 8 years of the same set and graphics they figured it's finally time for something new.
