1. Derrick Santos at New England One says the ABC O&O story is bogus. He's a far more trustworthy source of Boston media info. Can't believe that Newsblues went with this unsubstantiated nonsense.

 3. I knew something about that headline didn't pass the smell test. The day ABC/Disney decides to buy more TV stations (which they won't for reasons that have been repeated over and over again in this forum) is the day broadcast television becomes obsolete.

 5. Not to mention Disney/Hearst have a partnership with A&E Networks and ESPN, which would be rocky if ABC pulls the same stunt in Boston.

 7.
Derrick Santos at New England One says the ABC O&O story is bogus. He's a far more trustworthy source of Boston media info. Can't believe that Newsblues went with this unsubstantiated nonsense.
I don't even read Newsblues and trust NE1 more because I actually read that website on a continuing basis. So @NewEnglandOne has more trust on this than any other and besides, WCVB/WMUR would be REALLY stupid to give up their ABC affiliations.

 8. That one doesn't pass the smell test. I can't see how ABC will uproot one of their top affiliates - and one of their top company groups - for such. The repercussions could be enormous there. The only way I can see WCVB become an O&O is either by Hearst buying ABC as a whole from Disney, or by a trade with (at least) WTVD and KFSN. As for just gutting WCVB, do they want to make Hearst really mad in their largest market?

 9. Byron's bio on the website said that he also did the 4:30 newscast (with Brant listed at 4). Was that ever a thing?

 11. That's a shame. I liked watching him and Terry Hood when I go to Tulsa. But Craig Day is a suitable successor.

 12. Isn't WCVB one of ABC's highest rated affiliates? This would have made more sense for NBC. Nothing is confirmed here, so who knows how accuracy there is to this, at this point in time.

 13. Press release journalism runs amok in markets like Fort Wayne (the Fort Wayne Media Maven is a testament to that). It's what happens when a station, or set of stations, don't have nearly enough resources to do their jobs. Something tells me that won't really change under Sinclair when they take over (they haven't yet; my initial post was inaccurate and revised to indicate Bonten ownership).

 15. The evening anchors implied that Alicia will be filling in for Brant Miller the entire week now that Byron is gone. The previous arrangement had been Alicia Monday and Tuesday, Byron Thursday and Friday, and of course, either of the two on Wednesday. Now that Byron's gone, we'll probably see weeks where Alicia has to work Monday-Friday quite a bit. Kalee might have to pull Monday-Friday shifts on the 11 am show as well. Either way, we'll probably see a lot more Pete Sack on weekends again since I imagine Alicia and/or Kalee will be off on weekends after their Monday-Friday fill-in shifts I wonder if we'll see more Andy Avalos appearances on the 11am show whenever Alicia or Kalee are unavailable. I've seen Andy a couple of times on the 11am show when Byron was off and no one else was available to fill in.

 16. Yeah, it would make a bit more sense if they were using a separate image by a different composer. And sheesh, that one sure dates itself...

 17. Yes, since WMUR is the only station primarily covering New Hampshire.

 18. WCVB can survive without ABC. The question is if ABC could theoretically survive without WCVB/WMUR.

 22. The Bonten acquisition was only announced a month ago and SBG hasn't taken control of anything yet there, so this has no Hunt Valley handprints all over it. But this is still a sad example of the 'press release journalism' you see in small towns where only the police and their press releases are considered to be official, and everything else is under the broad 'sources say' discrediting, or the dreaded 'balanced news coverage' umbrella designed to fill out 90 seconds. At least the state's other media like their newspapers and other TV stations are taking a wider view.
