  1. That's actually not too bad. I wonder how many journalists besides Robin Meade have singing/rapping careers.

  3. So, after a decade of use(!), I figured it was time to move the goalposts a bit. This has been something I've wanted to do for a while and since I still can update the original threads I decided to tweak it. Long story short, anything before 2008 now goes in Classic Video. Anything after 2008 goes in the "modern" Video Thread. I chose 2008 for a reason. Not only did standardization really begin around this time, but many stations also went HD around this time, making a delineation pretty easy. Why the change? Well, the answer is time! Stuff from 2001 was six years old in 2007; it's now sixteen years old in 2017. To a new generation, songs from the 80s now classify as "oldies"... so stuff from the late 90s and early 2000s now merits "classic" status. Now, don't let this change deter you guys. The Classic Video Thread has unearthed some real gems. Keep posting them. But if you see something interesting from the turn of the century feel free to put it there too.

  6. Don't think this has been posted yet - this is an evening newscast from January 4, 1983 on WFSB and WTNH. A WFSB open appears halfway through, using the pre-1984 Gannett graphics (you know, the red & blue lines crawling across a black screen with random shots around them).

  7. If you mean this kind of hit, then no. They survived.

  8. They need a new GM and ND for starters. It's time for some fresh faces behind the scenes to create a new vision for the station.

  13. Man, what could have been had Randy Salerno not passed away when he did. They were on the up and up with the team of Randy and Roseanne. Sadly, I think it's one of those things that this station will never be able to overcome, no matter how hard they try. I'm not sure what the solution should be at this point, but it's clear that what they've tried over the years has not, and will not work.

  14. Gotta love the WFSB open. Didn't know that WFSB used the pre-1984 Gannett graphics, because I do know that KMST in Monterrey/Salinas, CA used the graphics during the mid 1980s. Onto some rare video. From 1986, here are a couple of news promos for KCAU's "Major 9 News". The theme they used at the time was "Tuesday1" by Tuesday Productions. The station used an interesting logo which can be seen at the end of this video. Here is some more of WANE's "News 15". This time, here is a vintage newscast from September 18th, 1985. Here is a full KCST newscast from October 12th, 1986 (three days before my 2nd birthday). The newscast begins at 2:21 and features a KCST/Storer closing logo at 28:46. You gotta love the closing theme they played at the time. But wait, there's more. Here is an entire WPDS newscast from June 7th, 1984 and this newscast aired not too long before the station cancelled its late newscast. One more clip and it's VERY rare. We take you back to March 1987 where we feature a KTVE newscast from this period. The news close can be seen at 15:24 and features an unknown news theme. Anyone know what it is?

  15. I don't think the music is hubbed at WESH. All stations would have access to that. And most Hearst stations have picked up the Strive updates because they sound so good, and it seems like the package is updated almost constantly. They've got to have over 30 discs by now. I don't think Hearst ever "mandated" how the stations use the graphics. I think they must have just released new templates and/or stations have decided to get more creative. Very few Hearst stations still use the original 2012 open look.

  17. I feel like there's been a dry spot in new classic video lately! Hopefully those with ways to capture can scour for VHS tapes on Craigslist, eBay, their local thrift shop, etc. Always cool finding new stuff.

  18. Given it's been a decade since it first got posted, and I can edit the OP and thread still, I moved the goalposts a bit. So, just as oldies/classic hits stations have added more recent music to the playlist, this thread is now good for anything up until 2008. I chose that date because that's A.) when standardization really began, and B.) HD became a standard. Keep posting those older videos, though! That's what makes this thread shine, and I don't want that to be lost like the older songs on said oldies/classic hits stations.
