  1. Probably my single favorite Canadian news theme...and I've never seen the original open with it! By early '97, they'd tightened up the open. And get a load of the set!

  2. Telemundo is on SiriusXM. Yes, the first television network to be available on satellite radio. First before ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The CW and even Univision and UniMas. Telemundo is available on Channel 469 and does air all of Telemundo's programs and sports events.

  3. Did I see correctly that the DMA runs all the way from southwest Missouri to the Oklahoma/Texas line? I know that there's no big city between OKC/Tulsa and Texarkana/Shreveport, but that seems like a very long distance.

  4. Interesting glimpse of the Tampa/St. Pete market after the "Big Switch" of Dec. '94. Mostly from WFLA but some WTVT clips at the end. WFLA attached the NBC peacock to their logo bug, but did not officially update their "NewsChannel 8" logo until fall '95. At this point, they were still using their 1993 'tabloid' era graphics and set, which would change (thankfully!). WTVT showed almost no sign of being a Fox affiliate. Their bug had the '13' logo and 'WTVT' calls WTSP (not in this video) debuted a new set in Sept. 1994 and a promo campaign, you can view on YT

  5. Wells I haven’t heard in a loooonnnggg time, Chapin yes. His voice has degraded (not bad as Van Dyke) and to find out how he sounds now, go watch something WHDH-related on YouTube.

  6. Those have been on YT for 7 years and we only just now notice them? A news update from WOWK-TV in 1993: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=ZVaRUGYkxt8;m=10;s=25 Some clips of WRC-TV and WUSA newscasts, including opens, from June 19, 1986. The first open has one of Fox's Friends in it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vRm-5GLMLY

  8. Sad news on this President's Day. Roy Hobbs, anchored in markets from Boston to Birmingham and spent 7 years at WAGA (FOX) in Atlanta has passed away. Hobbs most recently anchored for WRDE in the Delmarva Peninsula. Before that, Hobbs anchored at WBMA (ABC) from 2006-10, Hobbs anchored at WAGA from 1996-03 as the anchor for the 5PM news. He came to Atalanta from Boston where he was an anchor at NECN and WSBK from 1991-96. Hobbs got his start in TG at WTVF in Nashville. Roy Hobbs was 64. Prayers and condolences goes out to the family of Roy Hobbs.

  9. I saw the promos they touted of the exclusive interview and tuned in to watch only to be floored that they had the make-believe journalist Michael Strahan conduct the interview. What a wasted opportunity.

  10. Why in God's name are you watching, then? Like really, some of you all love complaining about GMA, and yet still consciously press the buttons on your remote to tune it in. It's hard to take seriously the guy who has such a wretched program's logo as his avatar.

  11. Part 1 of a 1998 TLC documentary that followed the KCBS crew for a month. Parts 2-5 are also on the uploader’s account.

  12. I am assuming that will be the case (remove the wood, etc...) to make everything match, but they have had sets in the past that didn't have a cohesive overall look, so who knows?? With the overall set/space being super small, they couldn't shove the desk over there. If the plan is to stay in place while they remodel, the best option would be to go to the opposite side (between the chroma key wall and weather center). That would give the cameras enough room to move around. Or they could throw up some blue panels behind them during each newscast to cover whatever they plan to do to that part of the set. Guess we have to wait and see what, if anything, happens. I am a little surprise they didn't just go upstairs to the old Steve Harvey studio temporarily and take care of everything at the same time.

  13. A bit, but not to the point where I would be advocating moving on from them.

  14. WDVM would change its calls a few weeks later to coincide with the Fourth of July. They changed their opens too in late ‘86 to that CGI flyover of Washington DC that lasted till late 1991/early 1992 when they moved to a new studio. Wish we had WJLA from that era - that station is surprisingly lacking! And here is WESH’s 1980 “tall tower” promo on the switch to their new transmitting tower, which was the top story on the 1980 newscast radioman1968 posted. Audio of the “TuesdayA” open can be heard too:

  16. That news anchor during the tease looks exactly like Ron Burgundy, but with a smaller amount of hair!
