1. I never said that... I said I would have a hard time learning the words to the new theme. Here at the senior center we all like to sing-a-long to the EWN themes. If you change the theme...we won't watch. Some older people (FNC viewers mostly) have memory issues. Some people that get slapped a lot also have problems membering things. I guess that's why I get slapped a lot.

 3. Speaking of The National, that was also the name of a short-lived flagship newscast on Australia's ABC in the mid-1980s. You may recognize the music from Channel 4 in the UK or KTSP in '80s Phoenix: Brisbane had its own edition, presumably because Queensland did not observe Daylight Saving Time:

 4.
I'm afraid you've been bamboozled @Raymie. All the uploads that guy does are stolen from other channels (mostly ChenowithRules and its sister channels). Here is the original source of that clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=UyrBzBaj8ak;m=1;s=27
Yeah, I kinda wondered...though I had not seen that (I tend not to see stuff in large commercial blocks if I'm not already looking for it). That said, it really does illustrate what a leap their 1990 graphics were.

 5. I thought Nightly had their own seperate control room. How do you like the new Nightly News studio? It has been in effect, I believe for six or eight months now.

 6. I feel like local TV design in general is kind of circling the drain. Between standardization sucking the creativity out of everything (though somehow the new Hearst graphics are amazing) and the fact that the trend towards flat design has inspired everything to look pretty bland or similar, I am not sure what stations ought to do. At least the new TEGNA graphics have some inspired color choices though.

 7. A video that used to be on ClipSyndicate until sometime last year. It’s about WNYT’s 50th anniversary. I thought I would post it here given the occasion of the set being replaced. And here’s another one, featuring Bill Lambdin as the reporter. He retired in August 2014.

 8. You really think the majority of the general viewing public turns to a newscast because of the theme? I would argue they like familiarity but the driver isn't a theme by itself. The exception is when the theme becomes iconic - like "Get Closer to Your World" in Philly. When ABC changed it, there was push back. But even though WABC has used a version that has some similarity to the Cold Tar theme originally used, it's not that iconic. I doubt most folks turn the station for a song, or a graphic, or a set color. Content, reporters, yes. That's what counts.

 9. The Turko Files started originally in San Antonio (KENS), then Nashville (WKRN) and to San Diego (KUSI). Hat's off to you Turko!

 10. I like it. They use 1A. Maybe they are getting a new one with the renovations going on.

 11. You're not wrong, but I'd miss some of the on-air talent that's been there since the good old days (Dave Schratweiser, Bruce Gordon, et. al.), but the station took a sharp nosedive when they lost the pairing of Dave and Dawn. I don't really their adoption of the FNC-inspired O&O look really helped matters, either. #bringbackTolley

 12. Both of these have lingered on the Internet Archive for some time as back in the day WNYT's video was downloadable in .WMV format. The 50th Anniversary was treated as a bigger deal by the morning crew as I remember Phil & Paul having Wayne White (the engineer in said video, who stayed until a year short of his 2015 death) live in studio and at least one other old clip being played. That lost dog story seems to be superfluous on the surface but anyone familiar with the area knows it was a big deal. John Nigro, the pet parent in question, is a major developer of retail properties in upstate New York and while anyone with the means would do that it seemed a little over the top. Also, the graphics blatantly showed that WNYT produced said ad.
