  1. THIS. When WNBC lauched 4pm newscast, it was in part due to 2016 election season. Them and other NBC O&Os launched their early newscast to mitigate the loss of short lived 'Meredith Vieira show' and other failures in the past. It remains and i don't see how it'll be different for future FOX O&O newscasts. As you say, It's all about the money, better than another sitcom rerun you can check out on Hulu or some 3rd rate syndie strip.

  2. Sounds like it remains unclear if Amy will continue as news anchor on GMA while hosting 20/20, or if she'll be replaced, or if the news anchor role will be eliminated altogether. If it's the latter, in combination with the elimination of Lara's full time role, it certainly amounts to a cost savings for the show.

  3. CBS 3 broke into Family Feud at around 3:10pm for a news conference from the NTSB about the emergency plane landing. The odd part about this is Jim Donovan was anchoring the coverage. Makes me wonder when do Ukee and Jessica come in? It makes no sense that the morning crew should be there that late (I would think 1:30pm would be the cutoff). Goes to show how lean they are on anchor talent.

  8. Are those CBS and ABC clips the West Coast feeds of the evening news? The assassination of King occurred after the evening news would have concluded on the East Coast. Perhaps the Dan Rather clip was the SR for the East Coast stations.

  9. KSAZ's 4pm news could very well be permanent. The others are obvious cash grabs.

  10. A newscast with a 0.4 rating can still make a profit. And 9.9/10 times no extra staffing would be needed. The Golden Age of syndication is long since over, so if anything more news or locally-produced lifestyle shows will take their place. I could see with Fox's greater commitment to sports programming your typical news timing (i.e. 5, 6, 10) getting shaken up.

  11. Some clips from WRC's news in July 1996. 6pm news begins at 3:36. I don't think there was a copy of this open on Youtube before, unless it's buried somewhere in a NewsActive 3 compilation.

  12. A lot easier to grab the money when its a locally produced newscast and political campaigns are willing to always spend a ton of money.

  13. Not sure why people are debating what time slots “work” for news. This has nothing to do with ratings or trying to “win”. It’s the midterm elections this fall. That is why they are doing this. After the elections, a lot of these newscasts will likely go away. They will not “fail”, they accomplished their mission to bring in political ad revenue. Previous “failed” newscasts in these time slots? Look closer, they probably happened during an election year. It’s all about the money. It’s always about the money.

  17. There was no doubt that WSOC was back on top. I think they lost one ratings period, and people are like the house is on fire. Cox makes sure their on top in Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Dayton and I believe they should of never caved into FOX with KTVU.

  18. You're not alone about getting tired of this whole Sinclair ordeal. I think we have reached the point that we have to let things play out and stop the daily 'Sinclair is evil' debate. It's not like we're going to forget that Sinclair has done/will do some shady stuff nor are they going to suddenly stop doing said shady stuff. You're right about Feder too. He was at it again today. I'm not sure what (if anything) WGN management said to Hoover, but his tweet remains up/visible. I'm guessing the reprimand was that he doesn't make any further tweets, comments and the like in the future.
