  1. It will pretty much be no different from how WVIZ and WNEO/WEAO operate.

  2. During her anchoring days, Sue Nigra was a huge deal as she was seen as the Next Big Thing and her departure from WTEN to WRGB in 1998 led to her suing Young Broadcasting as they tried to block her from leaving. WRGB put her on a pedestal, hiring her husband* and having her host the local wraparounds for the 2002-03 syndication bomb "Life Stories" among others. Her departure in 2006 was seen as a bit of a shock though seeing how Liz Bishop won't retire may have been for the best. * Fun fact: She met him working at WNYT; she was an intern, he a camera operator. He has since gone into nonprofit management and was back in the news when the health clinic he runs had an Ebola false alarm a few years back.

  3. Given that Nexstar's management all the way down to the station level is one big good 'ol boys club, Uncle Perry standing by their GM isn't surprising.

  4. You're not the only one who feels that way. The level of toxicity in our politics today is at a level that has not been seen in a very long time. Fox News, for its part, has been fanning the flames on this even before Trump came into power. It has now become the new normal.

  5. One of the dishes on the STL tower had the NBC snake logo on it... I wonder if that was saved.

  8. Big difference though is Bounce has a quality rep and original programming going for it, and an obvious viewership base in the market Hearst wouldn't ditch (thankfully Scripps isn't tinkering with that so far). Escape and Laff have none of that going for them and have little to no local advertisers wanting to burn money on those networks.

  13. Atlanta's secondary PBS station WPBA has reacted an agreement with PBS to become a full service PBS station, allowing it to better compete against GPB's WGTV. Until now WPBA could only air 25% of PBS content. https://www.ajc.com/blog/radiotvtalk/public-broadcasting-atlanta-channel-becoming-full-service-pbs-station-competing-more-directly-with-gpb-channel/ZglSeCnx0vJtnhHlrlim5J/

  14. From my vault (save for the first, the rest are from May 3, 1993). 1989 WVEC produced PSA for a Norfolk charity called "Christian Action" (also one of two uploads that I did a slight color correction experiment on) 1993 WAVY Promo (Contact 10) 1993 WAVY Promo (Medical Breakthroughs; tease for the segment airing at 11:00 that night) 1993 WAVY-WWDE Promo (Jerry Seinfeld at Chrysler Hall -- semi-related to news; as Hampton Roads radio legend Dick Lamb teases a piece on the following Sunday's WAVY News 10 at 11:00 on how to get tickets and passes to the sold-out event) 1993 WAVY News 10 at 11:00 Tease (with soon-to-depart anchor Terry Zahn)

  15. That one has actually been at the transmitter for several years. They saved the larger one (still with red and blue N) that was on the building itself.

  16. Apparently, look at James Gunn. Disney just iced him from any involvement in the next Guardians of the Galaxy sequel for jokes about paedophilia and rape he made in the past. Although in that case, that was an alt-right trolling revenge attack led by Mike Cernovich, the same guy who got Sam Seder briefly fired as an MSNBC commentator for some of his past tweets before the backlash resulted in NBCUniversal researching Cernovich (which Disney didn't in the Gunn case) and realized he wasn't very credible, and in both cases was so-called "revenge" against Trump critics. In this and other cases, Cernovich did it to silence people who criticize his ideology. A debate over Gunn's misfired attempt at edgy humor can be made, but the way it came out and who brought it to the surface was more of an attempt to chill free speech. West's issue was more of a failure to realize that improper conduct occurring during worktime, even if it doesn't involve another employee, can backfire.

  17. Or as the producers of Springer will tell you in the green room... "You might get hit with jello...or you might get hit with a fist...Now sign the release, and enjoy the show..." Both knew what could happen, nobody was forced to be there.

  21. Pointed to Whoopi and suggested she suffered from “Trump Derangment Syndrome” a term the president has apparently started using to describe his affect on those who disagree with him. It’s really quite sad if we’re honest - about a year ago I decided to just check out from following this administration and his antics coupled with those who blindly defend his blatant lies. I followed closely this week with the Russia investigation and already just wish I hadn’t.

  22. Oh I think that’s Lester being in LA. That’s not a control room but a monitor wall showing all the various feeds and satellites they can receive. You likely see a lot of color bars because there’s nothing being sent. They likely are monitoring the network (ABC and CBS like NBC have unencrypted feeds), the affiliates, news channels. In fact on the perpendicular walls where the header NBC News Los Angeles is typically there there’s an array of flat screens showing each local LA station and the cable nets on each side. The big monitor wall that’s seen when the camera shoots to the right and is frequently seen on MSNBC that typically displays show graphics displays multiviewer feeds and a large board showing trending content and I think a list of package being edited or video ingested. I’ll have to ask a friend whose desk is on the left side out of any camera shots.
