  1. Well, I found what the main non-newscast logo will look like. And here's more of the upcoming graphics in action.

  2. As much as I dislike necroposting (although is it really necroposting if it's an active thread and I just found this by happenstance while searching for something? Whatever...), I wanted to add a bit to this. I think KRIV's original "set" as such for news updates was a fairly basic silhouette of the downtown skyline. This was before they started doing full newscasts in the mid 80s. I'm reasonably certain that at about the same time, Metromedia provided both stations similar sets, with some lighting tweaks and a different desk between the pair. There's not a substantial amount of either station's news coverage from that period out there, unfortunately. Was able to find this image circa February 1986 though. Came across a 1991 open on one of my "newer" old tapes, and it seemed to be a fairly wide set and desk - something I didn't really catch before. I will get around to uploading this clip at some point in the near future... The chroma-key set set was an interim fix that occurred in 1993-94, and even then the old desk (and parts of the maroon paneling on the farthest edges, for a time) was retained. The WNYW set went into use when Fox started airing NFL games in August of 1994. It survived until they moved to their current facility in 1997. ***Ahem, you may return to your previously scheduled classic video thread...

  3. Looks good thus far! He knocked it out of the park with his prior "19 Action News" work and did a great job on this upcoming look. It's a step up even for Gray. Hopefully it will be a long-term relationship that will ensure quality graphics to both legacy and former Raycom stations.

  4. WOIO at its finest. Sure the ratings didn't reflect it sometimes but those were 19 Action News' glory days.

  5. Is that the VO from Inside Edition? If so, then kudos to Gray.

  6. Someone, please record the opens from Monday. I'm hoping that WOIO will be saved and take down WEWS and WKYC with this (though it will be slowly but surely).

  8. WKTV ends the day in 1988 with a brief news headlines rundown, a sign-off dating back to the 70's (with mention of the workers union!), and space shuttle footage set to the 80's version of High Flight:

  9. CBC seems to be undergoing a rebrand with a new wordmark (is that Gotham? The sports department seemed to have been favouring Gotham since the 2015 Pan-Am Games). CBC Sports had updated its logo, I saw a promo for CBC News with a similar style logo, and some of their regional social media outlets have been using it too They had phased in new local graphics based on the CBC News Network refresh. But could something based on The National's current design work well locally? Oddly enough this new Sports logo reminds me a lot of their red/blue logo from the 90's.

  10. A WYFF weekend newscast from 1996 featuring KOCO’s Tyler Suiters on sports. Second to WTMJ this is one of John Christopher Burns’ best design concepts.

  11. Thank you for the kind words. Thank you to everyone else who echoed similar sentiments as well! The copyright concern debacle was an interesting one in that NBCU's person(s) chose a number of clips that ran the gamut of what I had uploaded. They included a few of the complete newscasts from Telemundo O&Os KTMD & KXTX to the sign-off of the low-powered WBGH in Binghamton, NY circa 2006 (Because of the peacock on the static image? I don't know...). The few attempts I made to get reversals on decisions regarding a couple of videos were rebuffed. I also had a lot on my plate at the time on the personal and professional front and just let it go. I still have pretty much everything that I uploaded on the original version anyway, so it's just a matter of time before some of it starts to return. As for a dedicated site - stay tuned for news on that front. Both of the sites you mention are great and an inspiration regarding what I would like to accomplish with the content I have down the line.

  14. It also looks like its going back to WOIO's first-ever branding... 19 News because Gray realized what Raycom and Scripps (KMGH) didn't... that having a city name in a newscast title is stupid.

  15. Isn't that where WOIO's current logo is from too?

  17. Pretty much when WOIO canned "Action News" was the death knell competitiveness at Reserve Square. Axing David Wittman, plus Denise Dufala (who had been at WOIO since 1995), and Romona Robinson pretty much sealed Snoozefest 19's fate. Now they're trying to build around the "19 First Alert" brand ("19 First Alert Headlines"?!? REALLY?!?) and Tucker and Tanaka. Now all we need is "Like Fireflies" to replace TITP and we have the potpourri of clusterfuck.

  18. This WLEX excerpt appears to not be late 83/early 84 but closer to late 85 or 86. Two reasons why: WLEX had adopted an updated logo (ditching the plain Helvetica 18), and more monitors had been added to the news set. Compare with this 1/20/85 newscast:

  19. They definitely need to work on the news presentation too. Basically go the "opposite" of WKYC and Tegna without getting political or rough.

  20. Looks quite nice. That horrible Cleveland 19 logo needs to go.

  21. I have a bad feeling about that soon-to-be new "19" logo. I wished 'OIO adopted the WXIX logo from '86-09.
