New M&A. I should call this a small M&A because it doesn't involve a major TV station. But the price tag is "somewhat" big. RNN National (owners of WRNN-TV) is acquiring eight NRJ TV stations for $81.2M. The stations they're acquire are as follows: KSCI Long Beach - (NRJ will continue to own sister station KNLA-CD) KCNS San Francisco - (NRJ will continue to own sister station KTNC-TV) KIKU Honolulu WMFP Foxborough - (will duopoly with WWDP) WTVE Willow Grove, PA - (will duopoly with WMCN) WPHY-CD Trenton KUBE Baytown, TX KFWD Dallas I don't know what RNN is going to do with these stations other than keeping the "Revenue Frontiers" alive. Their parent station (WRNN) run infomercials most of the day. And if NRJ Is cashing out, they might as well give up KTNC & KNLA to RNN as well.1 point

I think Bill Hemmer will be a good fit. He's good with keeping biases out of the equation in his reporting. I think it's a job well deserved for him.1 point

Another senior local news anchor is signing off at CTV. Ken Shaw, the long time anchor of CFTO/CTV Toronto's noon ant 6 PM newscasts, is leaving his post on the anchor desk in January 2020. He will still be part of the CTV News team doing special projects for at least the next year. A Frank magazine article in November had suggested that CTV may have pushed Shaw out as part of a round of layoffs in October. https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ctv-news-toronto-s-veteran-anchor-ken-shaw-announces-retirement-1.4719052 Shaw is the latest long-serving local news anchors at the CTV network to leave. On November 14, Gord Leclerc, one of CKY/CTV Winnipeg's main anchors for 24 years, was unceremoniously let go after presenting the station's noon newscast. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/special/instagram/anchor-leclerc-laid-off-by-ctv-564943692.html In September, CFRN/CTV Edmonton's Daryl McIntyre ended his 33-year run as that station's top news presenter; he had stated publicly that he was forced to take a buyout. https://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/liane-faulder-its-a-wrap-as-daryl-mcintyre-leaves-the-nightly-news-desk-at-ctv In April 2018, CTV also let go Tamara Taggart and Mike Killeen, the two principal anchors at CIVT/CTV Vancouver. Tamara had been at CIVT since the launch of that station in 1999. https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/ctv-vancouver-fires-news-anchors-tamara-taggart-mike-killeen Some of the legacy news anchors that remain across the CTV network are Steve Murphy and Bruce Frisko (ATV/CTV Atlantic), Mutsumi Takahashi (CFCF/CTV Montreal), Ian White (CFCN/CTV Calgary), and Jim Chricton (CHWI/CTV Windsor).1 point

The whole thing's kind of all over the place -- the open screams Linear Drift, the lower-thirds feel like RenderOn, and I see some hints of the last-gen Access Hollywood look later in the show. Their headline bed is a library track from NSM and if you were jamming to the opening to Telemundo like I was, I have good news.1 point

Here's a look at KSPR when it was known as "ABC 33". I'm not certain exactly when this clip was recorded, but looking at Wikipedia KSPR rebranded from "ABC 33" to "Springfield 33" in 1998, so it's safe to assume this was perhaps 1997 or 1998. If anyone knows more exactly when this was, I'd greatly appreciate learning that. Also noteworthy is that you can see Sonya Kullmann when she was earlier in her TV career. She would go on to KOLR10 where she anchored their morning newscasts in the 2000s, then replacing Joy Robertson as co-anchor in the evenings before leaving that station around 2012. She is now with Mercy Hospital in Springfield.1 point

As for WSIL, they used a font/logotype that other stations used - KHTV/39 in Houston used a similar (of not the same) 3 in their 39 logo. Back in the day, your options were more limited, mostly, since you didn’t have millions of fonts to chose from - and everything was edited by hand, be it using something like ChartPak rub-on letters or film/pictures from a typesetter to create ads. As for WPSD and WKMG, they both use the “Local #” branding, possibly from the same creative design agency, but the fonts and obliqueness of the graphic are distinctly different. For a better example, compare WCBS, WBBM and KCBS’s logos, or any of the numerous ABC Circle-7 logos...1 point

I think it's supposed to be a rip-off of the Ch-8 in Fort Bragg, CA that used to do some news way back in the dark ages. Psssst... Nobody in Northern California says "Norcal". Yes, it's acceptable to say "Socal" when referring to all counties south of Santa Barbara....not to be confused with "Soquel" located in Santa Cruz County. Just like no sane native Californian would ever say "Cali". Hollywood screws everything up.1 point

I don't know if I would call it as their crown jewel if their sister station nearby (almost 1hr, 20mins away) does better in the ratings than them.-1 points
