  1. Chris Ripley has, time and time again, demonstrated this company's delusions of grandeur and utter lack of any knowledge of its place in the media landscape, or the landscape itself, and this strikes me as no different. To hear it from Sinclair, you'd think they were a cross between the modern Disney and '90s Time Warner.

  2. If you’ve followed me in our Discord the past several months you’ll have noticed that I have been compiling a list of current news helicopters. Well the list has reached 117 and there’s reportedly an estimated 100-120 helicopters in the US according to TVNewsCheck. I finally decided to share it here. I have it up as a Google Sheets right here and you can submit more through a Google Form. I’d like to thank the many users who have contributed but especially @blizzard59 who helped me finish it off and find ones that I have had trouble with. Edit: The Google Sheets is always up to date. The images above were from when this thread was posted. Since then many of you posted corrections and additions. Thank you!

  8. There's a pane they placed in front of it, when they refreshed the desk in the fall. It gets blurry and out of focus, when viewed on an angle. It's completely see-through straight-on.

  9. I guess the CURRENT World News set-up still includes the 2nd video wall. Maybe I just missed it, but this is the first time I've seen an exchange at the desk all week.

  11. This cannot be a great sign at all but at the same time I'm not surprised as Chris Ripley (like he did in the Tribune deal) continues to show blantant ignorance to anybody questioning him about anything to do with things related to cord-cutting and it's impact on the RSNs

  14. We've seen the occasional station....like WOAY that abandoned their longtime channel number and PSIP mapping in favor of their digital allocation (channel 50). Well, as of their repack date, they have had to abandon channel 50, and they are once again....branded as channel 4! A definite improvement over their prior logo!

  15. It’s hard to disagree with much of anything that Wright said. This is an overreaction by Disney and reeks of egotism. Like others have said, synergies is a reality of every professional industry but ABC News goes way over the top.

  16. Yikes, I can't see David Wright returning to ABC. Those were damaging comments, you don't bite from the hand that feeds you, even if it's coming from a Mouse feeding you cheese. Sorry, but if you want to stick with hardcore citizen journalism and truly make a difference, make your own YouTube channel and podcast. The current media landscape is all about synergy, you drink the Kool-Ade that they give you, if you don't like it and don't want to share airtime with The Bachelor and shopping deals and steals, it's time to move on. At the same time, off the record comments from those in the journalism community should be kept to a minimum in this day and age, you will be recorded for juicy soundbites. You're a journalist, don't talk about your personal life and ideologies.

  17. @PelicanGuy, Color me surprised. But I believe this is the first time I've seen WDSU personnel dressing up. Normally, they would wear station gear during the coverage.

  18. Was WESH that cheap in 1986 to where they weren't able to get the "Come Home" package from their own network and instead made their own "Come Home" graphics in-house? I thought those things were free for them. I would expect this in a small market affiliate, not in a mid-sized one like Orlando was at the time.

  19. Per FTVLive: CBS Evening News is down double-digits with both total viewers and demos since July when O’Donnell’s tenure started. O’Donnell is in last place in the broadcast networks evening news race, but it gets worse. In markets like Los Angeles, Atlanta, Tampa, Detroit, Orlando, West Palm, Birmingham and Knoxville, O’Donnell’s newscast is even losing in the ratings to Fox News Channel’s Special Report with Bret Baier. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/12/18/oh-no-for-odonnell

  20. It's just my feeling that I have. He could be working till April cause that's when his new gig is or what they agreed upon. But why not go back to do at least one weekend anchor to say goodbye. I know there is a transition period but if it's Mike taking over people are already used to him. The statement effective immediately for not returning to anchor hit me the wrong way. Mind you, I don't think things are ending badly, I think he had a job to come back to with reporting but the anchors job on the weekend because Mike got very popular they decided to go that route. Just my opinion. I'm not trying to stir the pot. Just a feeling that I had and I had that feeling way before his statement came out. When he was supposed to return Feb. 1st and did not, that's when I said to myself he is not coming back. My feelings were right about Chris Cimino too. It's just a feeling that I have. Just because Michele says it doesn't mean it's true. They all have to watch their tongues about what they have to say, or that's what she was told. Forced out has many meanings. They could have been changing his job description and he wasn't on board with it and decided to leave. Of course there was no bitterness in his statement. Probably not bitter with co workers but there is also a no disclosure agreement. This is just my opinion. The news business can be brutal. Chris Cimino said nice things too and we later found out he was asked to leave, although the circumstance was different where he dropped the F bomb and Rob was a class act. You just never can totally trust it in any business.
