  1. Exactly. Out of ALL the stations that gained big 3 affiliations after the Fox switcheroo, WDJT has been among the best. They could be so much cheaper than they are. What's the reason for being hard on them?

  2. Really, does it need to be phrased so negatively here? They're in my market and they could be a lot worse, like WGCL worse or WWJ-TV non-existent, and they have management which is willing to spend. And when WTMJ is in the market continuing to drag it down, I'd rather watch a great fourth-place news operation trying hard than a third-place one we know can do 250% better (and has). They got to 25 years; there were times we were praying they got to 10 or even five, so it's a major accomplishment to me.

  3. Why are we talking about this? The head of CBS News is stepping down, not Norah O'Donnell. There's no indication Norah is going anywhere. Is it a possibility? Sure. But it's not a guarantee. Whoever takes over the news department will certainly want to make changes, but I'm inclined to think CBS won't want to make another anchor change so soon after the last one.

  4. I think TJH could be a good replacement for GS when he moves on someday from GMA. Yes I agree about BS. If they had him anchor for 10 years as opposed to for a year and a half I think the ratings would have been better. Then someone else could have been groomed as a successor. Someone else could have taken over FTN. I always thought Holt was better for NNN than Williams and perhaps had Koppel waited even another week before deciding to leave he could have been in a position to anchor WNT and he could have done well.

  7. And the Ron-a-thon continues, with Carol Marin's farewell speech, as she (and later Magers) famously left WMAQ in protest (May 1997). This Vimeo channel has digitized much of Carol's personal archives, and is on a bit of a posting spree this week.

  8. Starting in like 1983, PAUL Magers picked up where his brother Ron left off in the Twin Cities. Meaning that, after Ron left KSTP for Chicago in 1981, his brother Paul came to Minneapolis/St. Paul in 1983 to anchor at rival KARE 11 (WTCN at the time). When it came to giving the Twin Cities the news every night, Paul filled the void that Ron left. Tom Rhyther (sports) and Barry Zevan (weather) couldn't get enough of the Magers brothers in the Twin Cities. After they worked with one brother at one station (Ron at KSTP in the 70s), they went to work with another brother at another station (Paul at WTCN/KARE).
