  1. Kind of has a European feel too it. The sunrise element is very out of place in a wide shot though - is that built in to the wall? I'm a bit disappointed to see them move out of 3C. The set still worked very well and has aged nicely.

  2. I'm left wondering if a few weeks ago somebody said, "Let's try Nightly from here some night and see how it works out". A handful of rehearsal shows later... and there ya go. The fact that the Today show sunrise element is still in that last shot above during Nightly makes me wonder. That marble floor though... not. good.

  3. Thank you! I watched the supercut on NewscastStudio, and the thing I couldn't help but notice is that the camera is constantly moving during those in-studio shots. I know they want the broadcast to be dynamic, but sometimes it's a bit much!

  4. I'm guessing Jessica Boyington gets the job. She filled that role before at WCAU and I'm fairly certain they hired her with David's eventual retirement in mind. They'll try her and Matt Pellman out just to do their due diligence though.

  7. Here’s a look at how Nightly uses the space. You’ll notice new insert and full screen graphics, however, the open and L3 remain the same. Interesting - Nightly, Today, and Meet the Press all originate from street side studios now.

  9. I guess intelligent morning tv would be like the Bryant Gumbell/Jane Pauley years on Today as the best example. Extended interviews, news magazine type feature pieces and conversations with people like military generals, foreign policy experts, and introspective authors. Dumbed down would be modern GMA. Stories on some former Power Ranger actor caught up in a murder mystery or secret recordings of dentists’ snarky side comments while the patients were under anesthesia (ACTUAL stories that they have done). CBS Mornings on the other hand would be focusing on millennial home buyer-ship rates, climate change’s threats to Florida’s oyster population, and pandemic exoduses from cities to the rural areas (actual stories they’ve done). They borrow some bits from the competition but the positives outweigh that for me.

  11. I believe the response says that Gray moved CBS to the LD after meeting with FCC staff. It’s close to guaranteed that Gray won’t pay the $500K fine. This will eventually end up in a federal courtroom, where the FCC has a terrible track record. Gray will end up paying nothing or a tiny fraction of the original fined amount.

  13. Dale Hansen signed off one final time on WFAA tonight. But the opening of tonight's 10pm got me. They reenacted the 'Taxi' promo he did when he left KDFW 4 for Channel 8 over 38 years ago. And they brought in longtime VO guy John B. Wells to drive the Taxi. Videos Courtesy of WFAA's YT page.
