  1. It's very clear to me the problem isn't Norah; it's the nature of the evening news and CBS's position in it. They're always going to be third place no matter who they put in that chair.

  2. I wonder if this is related to their extended coverage? Maybe they're doing this so they can have enough staff for extended coverage tonight? Overall, I've been really impressed with the channel so far. I think it's been really good.

  3. Indeed, isn't it lovely? How much you want to bet they spend another few years in rotation mode now.

  4. A lot of great stuff came out of that dumpster dive that person did including some vintage airchecks. When WWLP moved they left EVERYTHING behind.

  5. Interesting, so Steve Bender is only listed on their website as a field correspondent, but here they are using him as an in-studio meteorologist today. Wonder if other field correspondents will also be used in-studio throughout the week/on weekends?

  7. Despite America's Weather Center's first day of coverage originating from the main studio, their second day of coverage is originating from the same "secondary" location where yesterday's edition of America's Weather Tonight originated. I wonder if going forward, the main studio will be reserved only for their "big" shows of Fox Weather Sunrise, Fox Weather Skydome, America's Weather Now, and Fox Weather Wild? I wonder where in the building this secondary studio is. They never seem to do any wideshots in here based on the way last night's coverage west, so I can only assume that this is a pretty tiny setup with probably nothing more than one anchor desk and one stand-up monitor. Some pics of this secondary studio: They are using a chroma key wall on this setup as well... And, uh... nice overhead lights?

  8. Unless sales is having trouble selling enough to make it profitable? If Norah is so bad that the network is losing money, that might force their hand. Third place yet profitable shouldn't be an issue- Someone's gotta keep the bench warm

  9. So a new M&A. Gray is acquiring another LP. Gray is buying this LP WYMP-LD in Bryce, MS from 5GTV, LLC for $500K. Now I was thinking why would they want an LP close to Tupelo when they don't have a full power signal in that market? As I was looking at RabbitEars, WYMP applied to move the RF 14 signal closer to Memphis. Back in September of last year, I'd explained about WMC applying for a digital replacement translator on RF 14. Since FCC had placed a permanent freeze on new fill-in translators, the station asked for a "waiver" to get approval. As of today, the FCC hasn't acted on this application. So I guess they're new approach is to buy an already-established LP, so they can move it closer to Memphis and light it up as an in-city translator of WMC. Also this need to be mentioned, too. Back last November, WMC filed a petition to move its full-power signal from VHF 5 for UHF 30. And almost 11 months later, this petition has yet to be acted on.

  10. I'd assume that would start rolling out once the FTS stations start the subchannel rollout and they start adding local inserts. At this point, it's more important to get the network up and running. I expect WITI to be among the first in line. I kind of expected whatever their new GFX would be would launch with Fox Weather, but it looks like the wait will go on a little longer.

  11. I would start with the large markets first and then go to some smaller markets. I would also give an opt out to stations who don't want to participate.

  12. Please no. At least not every CBS affiliate. Major and Large markets sure... But please don't let the small markets into this mess.

  13. Broken record but IMO, eighty-sixing Norah will accomplish nothing (ratings wise) without some major talent acquisitions and formatting changes on CBSEN. ABC is doing a good job of grooming talent like Whit Johnson, Linsey Davis and of course George Stephanopoulos if there is ever a vacancy in the evenings. NBC has really taken the time to build up Savannah Guthrie and Tom Llamas for prominent roles should any major anchor departures occur. They've even developed Craig Melvin, who I'd consider as a stand by candidate for future Today main anchor. CBS hasn't really groomed new talent effectively. Personally, nether Couric, Pelley, Glor or O'Donnell were right for the CBSEN, but I did like Glor's neutrality in reporting.

  14. Exactly; there are people in New York who want to be doing something at 6:30 p.m., and will stir the pot however they can to get back to work. Viacom can't get a refund on the set work done in Washington at this point, and this reads as someone's book report on 'Why Norah O'Donnell is a Big Meanie and Should Be Grounded'...and they should have been failed because a lot of this report drones on and on about Gayle King's status to fill out the column inches.

  15. Keep in mind that the New York Post is a tabloid, and the whole story is based on anonymous sources. Try not to get ahead of yourselves. Also, even if she does end up leaving, her contract is up in the spring, so it'll be a while before anything happens.

  16. Who said anything about Byron getting in at 5:45am? And who actually thinks the on-air personality is preparing the forecast? Nothing would surprise me when it comes to PIX 11, but most of these stations have weather producers who are putting together the graphics and forecast. As someone else noted, Fox 5’s Mike Woods is on air from 4:30-10:00am. CBS 2’s Elise Finch and ABC 7’s Sam Champion both handle the morning shows from 4:30-7:00, weather hits during the 7-9am national shows, and even stick around for the noon broadcasts. Once again, why exactly does PIX need two weather anchors in the morning?
