They pulled Glor too soon. They did him dirty. Now with him and his co-anchors being number one on Saturdays has to make management rethink the decision they made that screwed him.2 points

Dan was a solid anchor despite his moments. CBSEN under his tenure was just as good as NNN and WNT, I guess someone had to be in third place and it was him. To me, CBS has remained third because of their competition. Brian Williams had a commanding presence and a narrative delivery style that made me at least want to tune in. Plus, NBC typically had the best presentation. ABC had more recognizable and better fitting anchors: Charles Gibson, Diane Sawyer and David Muir. To me, Couric's tenure inserted too much soft news. Pelly came off as too stiff, Jeff Glor wasn't well known enough, and Norah is just another face trying the same format. She was better in the AM with Gayle.2 points

Add to that Jerricka Duncan. The times I’ve watched her on CBS Mornings she’s really good. Definitely should be in the running if/when Gail decides to leave. She, Tony, & Nate work well together. The reason Saturday Mornings on CBS does well is because of the team they have in place.2 points

Moderators - can you please consider renaming this thread to “Gray Graphics” since this thread has long passed the scope of the topic…and ironically, the WOIO graphics aren’t even the standard Gray graphics. (It might be a better idea than being rude to people who post threads with this topic/title, then belittle them and shut down the thread…)2 points

I am too. I did not have high hopes because I didn't expect it to be a 24/7 operation but it seems they're at least committed to being available around the clock (at least on weekdays). I hope they find more distribution methods1 point

WWNY has upgraded to the KFDA/WALB package (although it has yet to switch to the accordant ticker template)… It’s an upgrade from what they had before:1 point

You got it. 'Masthead' is what newspapers call their logo on the top of the front page. Banner well that seems like something you'd hang high up. I think Roone Arledge, who started the practice when he overhauled ABC NEWS, had some name for them - maybe it was banner or signage or something. I'm guessing in the KPIX case they saw KTVU had a plain beige masthead banner and used a world map for the center backdrop and was climbing in the ratings, so figured why not try that. Their prior masthead banner was an ABC NEWS knockoff with the black background.1 point

Gray is WYMPing out: they're acquiring WYMP-LD 14, virtual 7, southeast of Memphis (Bruce, Mississippi) from 5GTV for $500,000. On October 18, Gray executed a subchannel lease agreement with 5GTV, too.1 point

Despite America's Weather Center's first day of coverage originating from the main studio, their second day of coverage is originating from the same "secondary" location where yesterday's edition of America's Weather Tonight originated. I wonder if going forward, the main studio will be reserved only for their "big" shows of Fox Weather Sunrise, Fox Weather Skydome, America's Weather Now, and Fox Weather Wild? I wonder where in the building this secondary studio is. They never seem to do any wideshots in here based on the way last night's coverage west, so I can only assume that this is a pretty tiny setup with probably nothing more than one anchor desk and one stand-up monitor. Some pics of this secondary studio: They are using a chroma key wall on this setup as well... And, uh... nice overhead lights?1 point

Unless sales is having trouble selling enough to make it profitable? If Norah is so bad that the network is losing money, that might force their hand. Third place yet profitable shouldn't be an issue- Someone's gotta keep the bench warm1 point

So a new M&A. Gray is acquiring another LP. Gray is buying this LP WYMP-LD in Bryce, MS from 5GTV, LLC for $500K. Now I was thinking why would they want an LP close to Tupelo when they don't have a full power signal in that market? As I was looking at RabbitEars, WYMP applied to move the RF 14 signal closer to Memphis. Back in September of last year, I'd explained about WMC applying for a digital replacement translator on RF 14. Since FCC had placed a permanent freeze on new fill-in translators, the station asked for a "waiver" to get approval. As of today, the FCC hasn't acted on this application. So I guess they're new approach is to buy an already-established LP, so they can move it closer to Memphis and light it up as an in-city translator of WMC. Also this need to be mentioned, too. Back last November, WMC filed a petition to move its full-power signal from VHF 5 for UHF 30. And almost 11 months later, this petition has yet to be acted on.1 point

Crazily Dan was even #1 the first few years into his stint after Cronkite retired. He fell to second and then third a few years after that and they’ve been firmly positioned there. I think the issue is more that she’s managed to do worse despite the costly investments on her behalf.1 point

It's very clear to me the problem isn't Norah; it's the nature of the evening news and CBS's position in it. They're always going to be third place no matter who they put in that chair.1 point

It interesting isn't it? They are number 1 in Daytime, Late Nights, Primetime Newsmagazines shows and Primetime in general. So why does it seem like they always struggle in Morning News (aside form CBS Sunday) and The Evening News? You know it must be driving them nits. Dan Rather was in 2nd place (I think?) in the 1990s. My first thought is Not enough stability since he left. There been 4 Co-anchors since he left 15 years ago. That a new anchor about every 3 years on average. My second though is problems or issues internally that maybe hasn't come to light.1 point

Please no. At least not every CBS affiliate. Major and Large markets sure... But please don't let the small markets into this mess.1 point

I'll throw them a bone and argue that they're trying with Tony on the morning show... Gayle was off, he was in the center chair, and I stuck around for more than the Eye Opener!1 point

Dish is the worse when it comes to channels going dark always seem to be in a dispute with someone. A few days ago Sinclair extended with Dish for one more week I think it is on Thur that it could end.1 point

Nah, Comcast should take back WJAR and make it an satellite station for WBTS, covering both the Greater Providence and Greater Boston area news1 point

If I had DISH I would not have half of my market's big four stations (and The CW) right now. (I could still get CBS in SD from Pullman's KLEW as DISH and Sinclair continue talks.)1 point

KPIX Dec 1987 open (cut off) - glimpse of a short lived update to the 84-88 set that replaced the plain beige backdrop behind the anchors with a world map, and updated the masthead banner above1 point
