  1. I don't know nearly as much about the Pitt market as you do, but it seems similar enough to the point where corporate mandates often get bucked... And as long as they have the ratings to back up noncompliance, CBS would be dumb to make them fall in line. Although for WCCO, I never understood why they dumped "4 Warn Storm Team", it was a good play on the channel number (and an answer to KSTP's "SkyMax5")

  2. Number 1 isn't a reason, friend. WLKY uses Strive because all* Hearst stations use Strive. It's a group standard. *WMUR uses Hearst B because it has significant cross-coverage to WCVB.

  3. “As a result, News 12 devoted more than 200 hours, including significant amounts of executive management time, to the process of securing coverage for McDonough’s sudden and unexpected absence,” and paid “premium compensation” to cover his on-air shifts, according to the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages." Oh, boo hoo hoo. Station execs actually had to do some work?

  4. Channel 15 is shared with land mobile radios and hospital radiology equipment, and because of that they have the lowest full-power signal in the market.

  8. Nexstar does not think they will be able to compete against WRAL and WTVD. Their main/only market are people who are loyal CBS viewers and went mad by the fact WRAL lost its CBS affiliation. In other words, all of the ex-Outlet operated TV stations are in ruins. WCMH has a weak anchor team and poor graphics. They are a divestiture option for Nexstar, though. WJAR is just your regular Sinclair station. Obvious Fact: WJAR and WCMH have the same VO. WLWC is now just an empty shell after Michael Dell mercilessly sold it's spectrum and CW affiliation. They have a virtual channel assignment, and CourtTV accessible on that VC. That's it. You can see what Nexstar did to WNCN, right here on this thread! And lastly, WWHO is owned by a guy named Stephen P. Mumblow. There is not much money being invested in this station besides the engineering department. 360 is retained. They can do away with the unnecessary 3D, gradients are superior. Also, I WISH that Nexstar would stop offering this package to stations since Circle City has since bought its original user.

  9. Haha. They admire WRCB's...creative aspects, even though Nexstar popularised the branding. Unrelated stations don't need the same branding.

  10. WJMN just changed their logo on Facebook to remove the CBS eye. Not sure if this signals a change or is merely cosmetic. https://m.facebook.com/wjmntv/photos/a.455154054519001/5039179752783052/?type=3&m_entstream_source=timeline

  11. Does Nexstar Really think they will be able to compete against the unbeatable WRAL and ABC O&O WTVD? If I were Nexstar, I would sell this station to CBS Already. Raleigh is a growing market and how poor this is proves that either Nexstar has given up or doesn't care. CBS could do so much better if this station was an O&O again.

  12. Same folks who tell stations to brand every fire/crash/disturbance as Breaking News. Can move this thought to speculation or breakroom to keep some people happy, but when's the last time a consultant had an original idea?

  14. Here's a complete 1982 WGN newscast with John Drury from 1982 with INN. This was Drury's last stint at WGN before he rejoined WLS in 1984. He started out as an anchor at WBBM in the 1960s, moved to WGN, then WLS, then WGN again, and then spent the final 18 years of his career back at WLS.

  15. There's a lot of unknowns to this thing. In fact we don't even know what the ownership structure of this entity is going to be like. And even though the report did say that Apollo would keep the Cox stations separate I'm just not sure that the FCC would be convinced that they would even allow Apollo to keep the Cox stations in markets they would overlap in (Jacksonville is going to get the most attention out of the markets the two companies would overlap in). There's also another factor to it, the ownership structure (percentagewise) we don't even know how much Standard is going to own the combined company and how much Apollo would own in it as well. Still plenty of questions that with due time, will get answered.

  18. They all suck at this point. Crappy reporting from subpar reporters and anchor rejects. It was always basic and lower tier, but had well known long time faces, that provided some comfort.

  19. I have the same feeling about KDKA. I wouldn't be surprised if they do adopt this brand honestly, but I'm not sure how it would look or sound. They've been branded as either KDKA Weather or KDKA Local Weather since at least 05 or 06, and while the branding is simple, I've always felt like they needed a stronger branding for weather. And I don't know if First Alert Weather is the right brand for KD. I thought the same thing about the Pittsburgh stations, but WTAE took the bait sometime last year. I'm not sure when exactly.

  20. I have a hard time seeing WCCO adopting this. They've been "WCCO Weather" since 2005-ish. and overall, the Minneapolis-St. Paul market has avoided these kind of brandings. KSTP is "Minnesota's Weather Authority" but everyone else is *station name* weather. No one even takes the WeatherRate bait.
