  1. He's earned it. The man has worked very hard throughout his life. Starting at WABC and probably retiring at WABC. He's come full circle.

  2. I mean, Sam is the former Chief Met for the top-rated station in the country and he's working early AM. I'd be thankful for him if I were ABC. Who get's someone of this caliber to do mornings? Hell, who get's someone of Lee Goldberg's and Sam Champion's caliber on the same airwaves. Nuts.

  3. WLWT The Late News first 3 minutes (February 5, 1981, 41 years ago tomorrow) WABC ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 11:00 (February 7, 2000) WTTG Fox 5 News at 10 (January 30, 2001) There's also a January 25, 1981 WKRC 11pm newscast, but it can't be embedded due to copyright. 4. I wonder if they will also keep the Tegna name? Regardless, hedge fund owners are always bad news.

  5. Apollo is unlikely to be much better. I've heard the Cox stations are miserable and ran quite literally as cheap as possible. If Apollo can get rid of you, they will. Tegna employees are the real victims here.

  6. They would be run as separate companies. Otherwise it will never get past the FCC. As it is stated, Apollo will not have any voting rights. They are acting like a bank. If and that's a big if, ownership caps go up, then the two companies may merge down in the future.

  7. Wow. If that’s true, then all of the Cox stations would gain sister stations. To be honest, I wonder what WPXI would do gaining some more sister stations in NY, OH, and PA.

  8. Seems like there’s got to be something more to this. Maybe he’d been growing increasingly unhappy and just decided to walk? You leave the same day you make your announcement, the day before a major sweeps period when your station has the Olympics and the Super Bowl? I’m sure they had their anchors already scheduled for the entire month, had cut a ton of promos and now they have to shuffle. Perhaps one of his parents did take a turn for the worse but even then, would you quit the same day? I mean … he also has a wife and kids who have to be relocated. That takes some coordination. Switching schools, finding a new house, etc. Not to mention a new job, unless he’s going back to KXAS. Dallas is only a 45-minute flight from Houston on Southwest if something ever came up. Honestly it would just be easiest for KPRC to put Keith on the 5, 6 and 10. Keep Andy on Midday and noon, plus have him take over the 4 from Keith. They wouldn’t need to hire another male anchor, wouldn’t have to introduce a new face and would save some $$$$. They’ve been using Brandon Walker as a fill-in on some shows in recent months so he’d be available if need to help when someone is off. Blowing through both main anchors in a span of less than 6 months (and 3 in about 18 months if you add in Bill, who Kris replaced) isn’t a very good look for KPRC.

  9. He’s back here after leaving ABC over a pay dispute and a failed stint at NBCU. He was filling in for Rob on weekend GMA iirc and filing reports for GMA3 before the WABC reunion. ABC handed him just as much of a lifeline if you ask me.

  10. ABC News set from the late 1990s. I know that another backdrop of Cleveland mainly with The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was used on the other anchor desk photo 2. Another was a sunrise for Good Morning Cleveland.

  11. It's not hard for WABC-TV talent to make appearances on the national network, as they're based in the same building (save for GMA) and some time back, Lauren Glassberg did a cameo on General Hospital (the show is set in New York) Also, remember, the staff at the network O&Os are ABC employees.

  12. Don't confuse "network" with "national." Yes, she's filled in at ABC News, but so have many from the O&O's. And yes, anything can happen, down the line. BUT...Kelly & Ryan is a WABC production, with a national audience. Whoever is on morning duty at channel 7 can pop up on Live. If Sam was there, it would've been him. He was a fixture on the program in the Regis days, too.

  13. Not a new development, but Sam’s obviously been given quite a bit of latitude in the on-air dress code.

  14. The fact that they actively promote fox news shows is a turn off. I didn’t care to see Jesse Watters promoting his show while watching storm coverage. They should have kept it separate.

  15. Technically, Steve Kamer is already heard on KYW.... during Inside Edition. LOL.
