  1. Sinclair was absurdly blatant trying to “offload” WPIX to Cunningham and WGN-TV to a freaking car dealership not named Big Bill Hells. That’s the equivalent of trying to rob a bank holding a bowling ball with a glued-on string “fuse”. It was so outrageous that Ajit Pai couldn’t even defend it.

  2. KPIX only uses the Red Version of First Alert when there’s a storm or heat wave hitting the area. “First Alert Weather Day.” is KCBS only left in the station group not adopting the branding since KNBC uses it? The only time I’ve seen an overlap branding was when KTVU during its Cox Days would use StormTracker 2 and KRON (still to this day) uses StormTracker 4 on its radar.

  4. Nope, he's still in 1A for his show.

  5. The music dates to at least 1980. They also used "Classical Gas" in the '70s not sure which version.

  6. Now here's the 1981 news open for KIRO:

  7. WNYW 2007. Before the set hung around too long and became outdated, it was well used in it's early days. Fox 5 had strong graphical transitions, great theme music and nice ornate camera angles. Modern WNYW should take a page from this. Loved "the most powerful name in local news" branding.

  8. Not sure where the shouting trend began, I suspect ABC News on either WNT or GMA. Every newscast might have to add a little dose of sensationalism to make it more interesting, but the shouting just overdramatizes the news and makes it more stressful. Especially when it's the first thing you're watching in the morning or going to sleep at night. Add this to the every story for the first 15 minutes is breaking news habit. I suppose this is the popular cadence now, much like the Dan Rather type straight--unemotional--monotone delivery was the wave back in the 60s and 70s.

  9. I wish he'd come back to Portland! But KGW just hired a replacement for the original Joe Donlon replacement who left last summer. (And there's no other apparent openings elsewhere in the market that he'd fit into.) But I hear Joe has people already knocking on his door, so I wouldn't be worried for him. He made the choice not to renew his contract, so idk if I'd expect to see him on a Nexstar property. But who knows...

  10. I agree.. they really don’t have anyone that brings the “wow” factor to the show. WNBC people seem to like Darlene and Michael.. GDNY has a good team especially later on..I do wish they’d give Dan a co-anchor 4:30-6.. WABC people will always stick with.. as they do have a really good morning team.. and PIX has been picking up some big names lately and really improving the show.

  11. I wanted to mention that I think that Jessica is excellent. She has done early AM and weekend spots, as well as the usual weekday afternoon/evening. She recently won her first Emmy Award from her News12 days. I am proud to see that she's actually from my town in Westchester.

  12. It probably also doesn't help that they haven't added a traffic reporter. John and Alex Denis used to be a great combination.

  13. John got screwed when he was moved to weekends, he posted at once point that it was not his choice. As for Elise, she's bland, as is the entire weekday morning show.

  14. What an absolute shitshow NewsNation is. Nexstar doesn't deserve their stations if they keep funneling money like this.

  15. Misused as a lukewarm opinion host, I'm going to miss Donlon, but this is an overall positive move for the network. NOT ENOUGH, but going in the right direction, ratings be damned. As for Joe, to be totally honest, there are no immediate vacancies for a 50-something white guy anchor in Chicago, so I'd maybe keep an eye on Portland, where he spent a couple decades at KGW, before his 4-year stint on the northwest side of Chicago.
