  1. Why is this even a thing? And why is anyone even questioning their “future” on GMA or how ABC will handle it? Two married adults fell for each other, separated from their respective spouses and have begun a new relationship together. It is sad that two marriages are ending but that is a normal part of life. Maybe they’ll address it on air or issue a statement when they’re ready… but who cares?

  2. Honestly, as a straight guy with many female friends, some going back 25 years, the ONLY thing here that really screams more than friendship is multiple butt slaps. And yes, having existing marriages might not make for a good look, but sheesh, this isn't even in the same zip code as a Lauer type situation.

  3. I remember reading the paperwork for the KSFY/KDLT waiver. Granted, that was written to convince the FCC to allow the waiver to approve that deal, but it painted a bleak picture for KDLT under Red River and made it sound like a stand-alone KSFY was hurting as well. The financials of launching news on a station with no established brand, no network available, and many hours of programming to fill are yikes. Not to mention finding a way to staff it. We're in an environment where stations in much larger markets and an established history are struggling to recruit employees. Maybe they do news on the cheap from existing facilities in Fargo with MMJs in Sioux Falls... but still... trying to think about spending that money in 2023. Weird.

  4. It's as if someone hired a p.i to follow them rather than a random paparazzi stumbling onto the two at a bar or something.

  5. What are all your thoughts on Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough? This is pretty much the same situation, just without the pictures in the Daily Mail (which I have no problem with personally since they have been separated from their partners). Mika and Joe are still doing fine all these years on MSNBC.

  6. Likely because all of the local talent they hired has zero name recognition in the market?

  7. They took that channel in '09 because of early thoughts that mountainous terrain would be V-Low friendly which proved horrifically incorrect.

  9. I know it gets its share of critics #onhere, but I don't hate the current WABC look. It's simple (without being too simple), clean, and well-executed. Not everything has to be elaborate and splashy. (Of course, there was the NEWS YORK'S #1 NEWS incident, but...)

  10. Very unlikely this would be addressed on air. If anything, through a statement or messages on their social media accounts. Importantly, this was (is) a relationship between two consenting adults who are not professionally subordinate to one another or in a position to influence the other's employment. Whether or not their relationship constituted an extramarital affair is unclear, but even if it did, it's not a situation for which a morality clause is typically invoked and is unlikely to affect either's employment with the company.

  11. Well, Forum can't snag ABC. Gray just renewed its affil agreement that keeps the Alphabet on KSFY.

  12. Why are Drew Barrymore and Dr. Phil involved in a promo about local news?

  13. Exactly. From a fiscal perspective, buying this station now to create that kind of product at $1.4 Million with these interest rates and without an affiliate certainly makes me question if there are alternative motives.

  14. The “KCAL9 News” brand is clearly being retired. Obviously the station will still be KCAL9 outside of news, but the news operation is going to be renamed “CBS News Los Angeles” across both stations.

  15. It was a 'run for fun' station which barely made any market impact (it still carries YTA as a primary in 2022!), so it sounds like transmitter work/relocation needs to be done and it has half the signal of KSFY and KDLT. It's doubtful they get any of the big four, but we'll see if this works out (though with KELO's domination, it feels like a lost cause without any affiliation).

  16. Ouch. That's a lot of money for such a tiny purchase. That or inflation is killer.

  18. As I mentioned in the WPIX thread, I was fortunate enough to visit LA a few weeks ago. Just like how KTLA has an advantage over WPIX in terms of looks, KABC had a beautiful clean graphics package that I wish WABC could adopt. It would make them watchable.

  22. Camille Edwards worked at WPVI from 1997-2003. Shirleen worked there from 2010-2015. There was no overlap. The only thing about WPVI that helped Shirleen get her job was that she did a great job at an ABC O&O close to home and it was easy for management in New York to notice her.
