Wouldn’t be surprised to see affiliates owned by Gray, Scripps, Sinclair and CBS just refuse to carry any NewsNation cramdowns over the CW by Nexstar. Scripps can simulcast Scripps News, CBS has the “Now” hybrid newscasts, Sinclair has TND and Gray stations have a sizable commitment to local news.

Another example of why dropping the white fill doesn't make sense to me. The background is so dark that the purple and blue feathers (especially purple) are almost totally lost.

Not to worry. Word is new graphics are on the way with ideally everything else (new shows, graphics, etc..) in place by Licht 1 year anniversary with CNN. More like a Jon Stewart or John Oliver. Unfortunately, I can’t see anyone wanting to commit to doing a show 4-5 days a week. Those days are probably over. Plus, can’t see there being much interest from viewers for a show like that.

tbh, it’s a near certainty that Nexstar will kill off the app outright. It’d fit in with their “streaming bad, excessive retrans fees good” digital strategy. Ever wanted to see a cheapo small-market broadcast chain that lucked itself into getting all sorts of high-profile properties squander it all under antiquated thinking? Well now’s your chance!

Wow! First Pete Williams now Kerry Sanders, not to mention Chuck Henry at KNBC and other vets retiring from NBC. For years I knew Kerry as the Florida guy! Wishing him the best. I wonder if Andrea Mitchell will call it quits next, and many have asked about WNBC's Churck Scarborough. Hopefully they dont.

Well Linsey Davis could be a good successor, to Robin's seat. But that if Roberts decide to throw in the towel.

Did not see that one coming at all. She seemed to be in the running, along with Amy, for ascension to Robin’s chair once that eventually opens up. Her latest ABC contract made her the Friday co-anchor as Robin doesn’t work on Fridays. Good for her and CBS.

Cecilia Vega is jumping over to CBS from ABC to report for 60 Minutes.

Looks like they just chopped the time/temp off the CBSN ticker and made it float on its own. Ironically, the time/temp was the only part missing when that ticker was being used for the last couple weeks. If only the new package had time/temp bug and ticker they could use.

Happy retirement to Tony! He is a glue and one of the remaining originals from the early years of "Good Day L.A." who is still with FOX 11.

Why are you so angry? Everyone makes mistakes and hiccups on Day 1, everyone, even your beloved KTLA did on their new set (i.e. main backdrop). You and a few others on here act like it’s the end of the free world because you think this branding is going to kill Los Angeles television. It’s not. People will adapt and move on, as they have done for eons. This isn’t the first time KCBS/KCAL has done something different like this either (NewsCentral) so again I’m not entirely sure what has your boiling point up but you need to cool off. It’s not that serious, it’s a branding strategy. It’s a branding strategy that was tested, tried, and worked. They put A LOT of time behind this I am positive. They asked A LOT of people about it. They’re not just going to throw something on the air without market testing it first, and it tested favorably so here we are.

Well that's a way to get up to ah, 150,000 viewers maybe? Throw in Bozo for 25K more. Tom Skilling for another 25K. Ah to heck with it, Pat Harvey would bring another 10,000...

I don't know why people liked Diane Sawyer more than Katie Couric, the CBS Evening News in it's later years shifted to serious news and I thought she did a good job but others were like... eh. plus CBS was trying too hard to look for the next Walker Cronkite when they should of been working on delivering a fine news product. those are my thoughts anyways.

Katie Couric's book has been out for a while now and I just got around to reading the chapters about her time at CBS (which she didn't enjoy). Aside from citing sexism, she seems pretty dumbfounded about what exactly went wrong during her tenure. I think it was the shift to softer news and the Katie's Notebook/Talk Back op-ed segments for starters. Largely, it was the belief that her popularity in the mornings would translate to the evenings. Thoughts? Comparibly, I don't recall Diane Sawyer's nightly run being as criticized though.

There’s been rumors for awhile now that it’s been toxic inside CBS news so the ny post story isn’t shouldn’t be a total surprise. With cbs’s ratings trouble they likely won’t bother to renew Khemlani contract or even pushed him out before it expires.

That’s exactly the problem. The Post has an extremely polemic reputation as a right-leaning paper, and Fox News has pushed an anti-CBS agenda dating back to Bernard Goldberg’s falling out with the network a generation ago. So even if there’s a possibility it might be true, there’s also a good chance people will dismiss it as little more than a hit piece.

What happened to docudramas? Remember in the '70s "Pueblo" and "The Missiles of October," to name just two? Why can you not find a program like "The World at War" on a broadcast station? I even remember one year in the '60s when ABC had "FDR," CBS had "World War I," and NBC had "Profiles in Courage" either in prime time or just before. My students have a very limited knowledge of history; shows like these could entertain as well as teach, and perhaps we teachers could use some of the made-for-TV movies to point out factual errors.

I don’t think anyone is dismissing this but rather pointing out that this really isn’t that big of a deal. He was given the mandate to cut costs, so I can understand him questioning certain things. Norah shouldn’t be making (nor should anyone else) $7+ mil. a year. There should be some shared sacrifice taking place. Plus, it’s important to note that corrective action is taking place which didn’t happen with the previous CBS News/O&O regime until serious damage was done.

But it shouldn't be dismissed either. The LA Times piece about KYW is a good reminder about it too. The Post may be doing a hit piece on Khemlani and CBS, but it doesn't deny the fact that CBS is always one step forward and one step backwards at the same time.

Brian Williams would have been a complete turn-off, and not just because of his exaggerated war stories. His MSNBC newscast was a poorly disguised opinion show, and that doesn’t translate well to the evening news. I’m not really sure why people ever considered him to be a viable option. If Khemlani was considering him, that’s poor judgment on his part.

This seems inconsequential. My boss is condescending to me from time to time as well. Hardly worthy of a headline.

Just when you thought the folks of ViacomCBS (*um, excuse me*) Paramount Global has finally moved on from the Peter Dunn/David Friend fiasco....this happens.

Honestly, none of this is surprising. Bosses, regardless of the industry, are often jerks and Khemlani is no different. Morale has long been a problem at CBS News so it will take a significant amount of time for that to improve and constantly cutting resources/people only slows that process. Since his contract expires next year and baring any ‘serious’ allegations, my guess is that he survives this and retires. There doesn't appear to be enough currently to justify dismissal.

Although the NBC O&Os on Peacock are an hour delayed, they do offer live streaming for all newscasts from their website and apps. Nexstar does not do that anymore. In NY where Nexstar (oops Mission, wink, wink) competes with only O&O flagship stations all of which offer live streaming it is less an issue other than pure stupidity in a world where the cord was cut. In other markets where Nexstar controls multiple stations, it can actually be a safety issue when major events or weather issues arise and too many viewers do not have cable access. As brought up in other discussions of this very issue elsewhere on this site, it is irresponsible for Perry Sook to decide this approach. It makes Nexstar the not "must go to" station for live news.

I propose we start calling it the Black Eye Network.

In the streaming era of today, this is a terrible move. Don't know what they were thinking. You'd get the 11pm news live before the 10pm reboradcast at 12am. Also I wonder if there's any update on the new studio...my guess is they'd want it done before February sweeps?

They tried to drain the swamp at CBS News & Stations but based on their recent hires… kinda feels like they’re right back where they started. In some ways, I hear it’s actually worse.

Going back to news, another issue I see is everything feels contrived. Local or national, tv news outlets appear to be going extra hard to seem like they care about the viewer or are invested in the comminity. Be it through excessive hours of news programming, overly dramatic weather coverage, ornate graphics, or gimmiks, it feels forced. I watched an Australian newscast from the 90s and it struck me how raw, no nonsence and simply news oriented foreign broadcasters like the BBC and SBS were, without being boring. Even the "feel good" story at the end about a man duplicating his grandfather's flight across the English channel comes off as a magazine piece rather than cheesy or selling false hope. Even now, foreign countries like Jamaica with a lot smaller production values deliver a much more straight newscast than what we get in the states today.

At least one current show's safe: All American has been renewed for a sixth season.

I wish there was an ability to downgrade the terrible WRNN-owned stations to 200-watt AM daytimers instead of giving them better UHF signals. Also this 'upgrade' applies to share/sister station WMFP, so yay, clearer ShopHQ and OnTV4U farther away, Boston! I do wonder if KENV's upgrade would bring back a major network to that station, or at the very least making it a KMYU satellite. As for WMC, as Lizzo would say, 'it's about damned time'.

I'm surprised they haven't figured out a way to move WKRC to UHF, or at least provided a massive power boost. That is one crappy signal.

The LIV Golf deal is official. From the logo on Nexstar’s press release, it looks like ‘The CW Sports’ branding is a thing now.

LIV Golf has found their U.S. TV home with The CW in a multi-year deal. Weekend tournaments will air live on The CW, while Friday rounds will stream on CW’s AVOD app.
