  1. Looks like CBS just got consultant-bombed. This new opening sequence is an absolute disaster. If this is supposed to hook viewers it did the opposite to me. I wanted to turn away

The article’s wording is obviously misleading, considering this confirms that the CBSNS-owned CW affiliates won’t carry LIV tournament coverage, and the Nexstar stations summarized to have cleared the tournaments aren’t the CW affiliates in those referenced markets (and of those referenced, only WGN has previously been a CW affiliate). So really, LIV has been cleared on (maybe) 85-90% of CW affiliates, and received time-buy clearances on Nexstar-owned MyNetworkTV affiliates and independent stations in about 10-15% of the remaining markets.

  3. In theory I don't hate the idea of an evening version of the Eye Opener, but in execution this was chaotic and cheap looking, IMO. The 2018 version shared above felt better executed than this.

  4. What i hate about all the evening newscasts (WNT, NN, EN) is that they all feel so rushed. From the opens, to the stories, the bumpers, everything. It's like watching at 2X speed of normal. I'd wish they'd slow down and let the stories breath instead of cramming as much into 20 min as possible.

  6. I’ve gotta hand it to CBS. They took a clean, cohesive intro and managed to make even that look cheap. Also, why do they insist on repeating the same 9 notes of the theme music before every headline in this new intro? It’s repetitive and annoying.

  7. I can't wait to see how they re-brand The Movie Channel. "Paramount+ with Showtime and The Movie Channel"? This just feels like Paramount is either raising the white flag of surrender and acknowledging HBO's superiority in the premium cable space...or doing the equivalent of saying, "Hey! No one messes with my son Shoey! He's a PARAMOUNT!"

  8. I think Comcast/NBC is doing this in large part because of the potential fallout we're likely to see with Bally Sports' looming bankruptcy. They smell blood in the water and want in.

My lord...the CBS Evening News has been a dumpster fire ever since Scott Pelley "stepped down" from the anchor desk....and an underground mine fire burning out of control since Jeff Glor was given the boot. It makes Katie Couric's days look like quality television...and even how Dan Rather tanked the show in the 80s and 90s still look respectable.

  12. Theoretically, but it's gotten so much into analysis and commentary. It's not news! It's Public Media on Cable in that case. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO PAY ATTENTION TO?! What am I looking at? What am I supposed to hear? The awful vamp? The voice over? Those graphics are too distracting. Is this a newscast or a sizzle real for a ad agency?

  13. That's why we have Public Media. We have PBS NewsHour. Yes, it's an hour. But their stories have so much room and relaxes. Even their weekend edition (30mins) still holds the concept.

WLFI Channel 53 - aka Chattanooga CW - aired roller derby If the CW's upcoming sports division is gonna get some national presence, how about throwing roller derby into the mix, as well as WNFC women's tackle football? Instead of that LIV golf, which could create some backlash from what I've read so far. Those two are neglected sports that (a) don't get much television exposure as in live games like the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA and (b) never get any highlights during the sports segment on the local news. Make those two sports a part of CW SPORTS

  15. Sorry. To be honest, I think doing this is great to help bring unity and connection between the two top CBS News shows, and bring a mini newscast for people who don't want to watch too long, but still at least get the information needed in a world where now an AI robot can give it to you.

Most of the stations seem to be of the 'it's better than Byron' mindset where most of the coverage is overlaying weekend content or infomercials and treated like filler, but it's telling that WCCT (which is de facto an over-the-air CW+ affiliate with its site hosted there) and Tegna turned it down. If its ratings get above, say, what Raycom historically had with ACC sports outside its territory, I'd be very surprised. The PR doesn't mention what time-buy affiliates there are, by the way.

  18. I don’t hate it, don’t hate it all. I actually quite liked that. It’s similar to WNT with the flare of CBS Mornings’ Eye Opener. Doubt it moves the needle at all but I do like it. And the music continues to be one of the few bright spots about CBSEN.

With MLB taking broadcasting in-house with the bankruptcy (as they have claimed they are prepared to do), I see deals with Fox O&O's, for example, to put MLB on the MyNets (WFTC in Minneapolis, KUTP Phoenix, KDFI Dallas, etc.) I get that it's speculation (and apologies in advance) But it's a deal I can actually see being made, to @DirtyHarry's point.

It would make sense not to rebrand Showtime at all, considering it’s an established brand, plus the “Paramount+ with Showtime” naming scheme is very unwieldy for a linear network, even moreso when applying it to Showtime’s multiplex channels or its sports and documentary units… and don’t get me started with branding the network’s boxing and Bellator MMA broadcasts using that name. (Showtime underwent a brand refresh in August of last year, anyway, with a minimalistic black/red/white graphical look that replaced the shattered glass graphic scheme used since January 2011.) The “Paramount+ with Showtime” branding would only work in application to the linear channels in the way HBO co-brands its seven-channel linear tier with HBO Max on most pay TV providers, by only conveying that Paramount+’s ad-free Showtime tier is accessible via provider login as a complimentary offering to Showtime linear subscribers. If anything, Bakish and company should have thought of co-branding Paramount+ and Showtime as ParamountShowtime (a la the SkyShowtime streaming partnership with Sky plc in Europe).

  22. Kind of surprised they haven’t had the morning team hand off the noon to the 4pm team yet. With Kate handling weather at noon and 4pm now, it would make sense for uniformity/consistency purposes. Plus the morning team has a lot on their plate, 4:30-8:00am, national show cut-ins through 9am, news at 9am. That’s essentially 5 hours of on-air time.

  23. How about Comcast and Disney go 50% and merge ALL streaming services they have. That way, everyone is happy and everyone wins. All apps can also remain separate and then if they want them all together just use the Hulu app so that you don't have to keep switching between apps. Honestly, a streaming service that could give me not only the best of ESPN but the best of NBC Sports, would be appealing. Furthermore, Hulu's shows combined with both Peacock and Disney+ would result in a series of bangers that would be worth paying a Netflix style price per month for. To say nothing of the vast library content. Plus Hulu just renewed their deal with Fox Broadcasting Company so there's that. Disney would be smart to also buy a small part of Xumo too or even do a deal with Tubi, if not buying a small part of that. Then you would really have a threat to Pluto.

  24. Nice evolution of the package - plays well on big 4K TVs, not dumbed down flat to only work on a 10 inch phone. Intricate detail and depth for 4K, but bold and easy to read the key points from a distance. Keeping the italics gives it that feel of speed on the field. Nice use of light and metallic for the player pop ups (even if it's still the cartoon drawing portraits). 3D metallic just looks impressive on big screens. Typeface stayed distinctive and avoided the herd mentality of some Gotham like generic rounded sans serif that's polluted airwaves for years. Well done Fox.

  25. True. The reverse has happened happened over time. Fox stations used to be my fox (insert city.com) now they've opted to do it by channel number: fox5ny.com. Fox Chicago is now Fox 32. NBC and CBS are the only o&o with consistent network-city website brands. Removing the channel number branding should be easy for CW stations though as thats already the case in several markets.

  27. It feels like watching a TikTok that's so professionally edited it really has no life (yes, I use TikTok). I understand the point of it in keeping you informed, but if you've watched it, you've gotten the entire newscast. You're not sticking around for whatever geriatric health news Norah mentions at the end and the geriatric drug ads in-between. What this tells me, along with watching NBC and ABC, is that the days of 'the world in 26 minutes' and giving breathing room to stories are long gone. If you want detail beyond a newscast, a subscription to the Washington Post will do much more than a TV newscast. I knew things weren't looking good when the early morning newscasts and First Look abandoned the format, and now even the evening shows are done with tradition.

  30. Meteorologist and former The Price Is Right announcer Rich Fields is no longer at WTSP. His bio disappeared from the station’s website and he edited his LinkedIn to reflect he left the station this month. He was also hosting a weekly podcast with Dave Wagner called Come On Down that shared his stories of being an announcer on The Price Is Right and how he got the job. I had a suspicion he left or was let go because he stopped doing the podcast before Thanksgiving. He shared that the station was building a podcast studio for him and he should have new podcasts in December but nothing new was produced. I admittedly don’t watch WTSP so I don’t know when he was last on-air.

  32. The touchdown graphic looks like a comic book action sequence “bam”, “pow”, etc. the flag graphic looks like a breaking new alert you’d see on cable news. and they are still using those stupid player cartoon illustrations. not a fan

  33. I'm mixed on the new scorebug, it'll probably grow on me but my first impression was that is big and a little all over the place from the giant logos to the line at the end of each logo, and don't get me started on the touchdown animation!

  34. The new scorebug has debuted. Looks nice. Don't know if this is new, as I'm only watching this because it's free but, the scorebug is interchangeable to allow any information on the players and other things like total plays. Expanded details on the players Flag piece of the scorebug Referee warning piece of the scorebug Booth review Touchdown: Eagles Touchdown: Chiefs These Touchdown graphics are very cartoonish. Even the images of the players are drawn. Scoring board information. I wish a variation of this worked with the Touchdown graphic. Looks nice and elegant with a touch of sportiness.
