  1. Someone mentioned replacing Don and my thought is: why? Let CNN This Morning roll with the two anchors they have and see if something’s there. It’s not like you’re putting ratings at risk with that show at the moment.

  3. I agree, let's give some breathing room and see how it goes. There's hardly any rush to bring someone new in. I rather have them take their time and find the best replacement who would enhance the program.

  4. Looks to me like Poppy is thanking the guest for being on the show and Don says “can we move on?” which is when Vivek laughs and Poppy has a visibly disturbed expression. Hardly civil if I’ve got that right. I’m celebrating Don’s dismissal as well. That video is exactly what he does, makes every single story about himself. Good riddance.

  6. That was downright gross, if any of us spoke that way to someone in our workplace we’d be fired, it’s becoming increasingly obvious and will only get more obvious that this was a long overdue decision. I feel bad for what Poppy & Kaitlan have had to endure for the last 6 months. This is the “why the f**k did I take this job” face, my favorite part was her unlocking her phone, completely checked out from what was going on.

  7. Tucker doesn’t need to work another day in his life. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so I would be stunned if he ended up on NewsNation to deal with the “confines” of cable news. My best guess is that he goes independent with a podcast a la Megyn Kelly. OR - he goes to Daily Wire or the Blaze.

  8. If they decide to open up their pocketbook, may it be the catalyst for Nexstar eventually filing for bankruptcy when all of their retransmission greed and refusal to live in the post-cable world catches up with them. This will be the blunder that takes them under.

  9. I'm going to put this forward now. With Nexstar clearly having no morals, indicated decisively with them airing the LIV golf tour I'm about 95% certain that Tucker Carlson will get a show on NewsNation.

  10. Poppy was professional as to not even peep during this back and forth. A commenter on the tweet said it perfectly “someone who is not black describing the black experience and incorrectly would be very frustrating. I think his style is more suited to prime time than a perky morning show.” I’m with Don on this one. I too wouldn’t let someone spout lies to me and think they’re not going to be corrected. It’s too bad people are so soft these days. They had a disagreement, they didn’t get nasty and even shook hands at the end. What else do people want? We don’t always have to agree, but we should, at the very least, keep it civil.

  11. "“If it could happen to us it could, happen to anybody,” Kim said." It did. To Sinclair when trying to buy Tribune. Not the exact same with a hearing involved, but it isn't the first time a deal has died. "“I think that control over news is something that U,S, citizens should not allow the government to have." But that's not what the FCC is doing? They're not telling any local station what news to cover and how. If they were, they would've stopped that Sinclair "this is a threat to our democracy" crap from a several years back. "Sometimes — against the advice of his lawyers and lobbyists..." So he's a headache not just to the FCC, but even to his own lawyers and lobbyists. Sounds like a bad client. I wonder if those folks are almost glad the deal will die so they don't have to deal with him anymore.

  12. If you're referring to me, I am dead serious. People on the activist contrarian right don't trust the Republican establishment. Not at all. And they have earned the vitriol they get from our side. Fox is the mouthpiece of the establishment. ... Muh, comprehensive immigration reform. Muh, January 6th. Muh, Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine. Muh, free trade. People like me aren't in sync at all with establishment Republicans. Many of us despise them.

  14. Of course, all you lefties and rinos cheer, but here's what people on the other side are thinking. We know what really happened. Why wouldn't we when Fox has proven itself just to be another propaganda outlet for the military industrial state?

  15. The MAGA crowd is mad right now, they are saying "Done with Fox". I wonder how many will actually jump to Newsmax or OAN, or farther to the fringes?

  22. Wrong. You did NOTHING to solve any of the complications, Mr. Kim. This was a hostile takeover with the help of another company who is *already in* some of these markets, and helped by foreign money.

  26. It would be quite the calamity if, in the end, Tegna ended up buying the Standard General shops for cheap. Just a fun thought - not trying to dive into Speclatron.

  27. Bill Beutel finished every 6pm and numerous broadcasts with his own comments. He certainly earned his right to do so. Bill has his biases. That happens. If the ratings aren't showing problems with it, then why would staff do anything about it?

  29. I don't think it is bad for an anchor , after reading a story to go "just horrible" or show empathy for something (for instance) that we all agree is morally wrong; as long as it doesn't go too far beyond that and step into political bounds. Haven't watched in a while but it seems Bill steps into that political sphere he shouldn't be in. And I think we all too well remember the WPIX era where Lionel and Larry Mentde dominated the news. We all knew Larry's past, and after searching Lionel is now a leading q-anon promoter. Point of the story- if you don't want your news reputation to be hurt, don't delve into commentary.

  30. I'll repeat, since some of you are running with that screenshot... WBBM has not debuted the new look. That image is from a promotions department video from last fall. It is not necessarily a sign of their final branding.

  34. Yesterday was definitely an interesting day. When the Dominion stuff came out and unflattering things that Tucker had said about Trump as well as antisemitic and misogynistic behavior amongst his tv staff, it made me wonder if his days are numbered. Fox News took out highly-rated Bill O'Reilly who was still their flagship personality at the time in 2017, so they were bound to take Tucker off if they felt like he would tarnish their brand further, so it didn't come as a surprise to me yesterday. For me, Fox News will find a heir for the timeslot, they have a stable of personalities that could take over the the timeslot and I have no doubt viewers will continue to watch as long as the pundits continue to say things they like to hear. Watching Fox News is pretty much a political pep rally 24/7, it succeeds because people cling to charismatic personalities that validate their world view. For me, that Dominion trial should have proceeded if we really wanted to see actual damage to Fox News. Also, Tucker Carlson is unfortunately prime to take on political aspirations in my personal opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if his team is already looking into that. He has a huge following and this situation makes him somewhat of a fallen hero in many people's eyes. So the media has to be careful and take things seriously, we don't want another Trump 2.0.

  36. Tamsen posted today on Instagram her father is not doing well and a lot of things happened all at once. so she flew to be with him. that could explain some of the absence, but with the new promo apparently around, I’m not sure if that means she’s not coming back but I don’t wanna ask. I don’t think it’s the right time.
