  1. WGN had the same issue until it dumped the CW, so I don't see why this is so panic-inducing, and Gray already sends a different feed to Canada of WPCH which fills in local advertiser content that isn't relevant in Saskatoon with extra runs of the shows they have rights to. I'm sure Gray and Nexstar do have plans for that feed and whatever allowances Bell and Shaw need to keep the feed going (expect LOTS of domestic paid programming blocks on the weekends). The other thing...are we just all allergic to "TV" branding now? "TV-50" is a lot more remembered than "Detroit 50", along with "KSTWashington".

  2. I mean, that “SuperStation” died in 2007, so this isn’t much of a change. They’re going from an independent that aired news and reruns to airing 2 hours of the CW per day (along with said news and reruns). Nbd imo, although it really shouldn’t have taken this long to announce this.

  3. The problem is that they have virtually no physical plant in Seattle. The nominal main studio is the transmitter site; there was a sales office somewhere (don't have the address), but it closed in 2020. WUPA has insufficient space—it has not moved since it began broadcasting in 1981. (Nor has WTOG, though that building did once house a news department.) Paramount moved KSTW in August 2001 from Tacoma to 602 Oakesdale Ave. SW in Renton. The station had a sales office in Seattle (which it closed at that time) and its 1976-vintage Tacoma plant, which now is a Bates Technical College facility (KBTC is there, and there is an adjoining building built by the college). It seems they were not in Renton long. They then wound up at 1000 Dexter Avenue North, Seattle (South Lake Union area), home to the CBS Radio cluster. (There is a 21-photo tour of CBS Radio Seattle on Flickr from 2006!) That facility is long-gone as well, with the now-Audacy stations being elsewhere.

  4. TBH, I was surprised CBSNS didn’t choose to rebrand KSTW as “Northwest 11” (resurrecting the moniker that station used in the early 1990s under Gaylord ownership), instead of “Seattle 11”.

  5. Or they’ll be undergoing a musical chairs situation, moving them to other timeslots.

  6. WADL has finally updated their ancient website and unveiled their new logo.

  7. What I find interesting is that there will be no prime time news on KTSW, WTOG, or WKBD yet there will be 8pm news on WUPA I’d be really interested to know what kind of viewership WPCH gets in Canada….I doubt it significant.

  8. Not to mention, sports. Also, WPCH is technically still a superstation in Canada… and considering that The CW is now running Canadian imports like Son of a Critch and Children Ruin Everything, this means those shows will join the network’s past and present American-produced originals in being subjected to simsubbing over WPCH’s signal on cable and satellite providers there (since the aforementioned imports are produced as originals for domestic networks like CTV).

  9. Well it did confirm that they are launching an 8pm newscast on KDKA+, which I'm not so sure I agree with.

  10. I can't see them not moving those show to 7pm or sometime on the weekend where it won't interfere with sports programming.

  11. Just noticed with the Idalia coverage that TWC has switched to Carhartt for their field-reporting gear. Apparently this change went into effect May 2, 2023 with the network's 41st anniversary. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/the-weather-channel-television-network-and-carhartt-announce-new-apparel-partnership-introducing-a-fresh-look-for-the-networks-meteorologists-301813055.html This is the biggest change to date, because gone are the blue raingear outfits previously offered by Lands End, and before them L.L. Bean and Columbia. With the new Carhartt deal, the raingear worn by the field meteorologists is all-black, and during clear conditions, the field mets wear gray Carhartt work shirts. Looks like with this deal, the color scheme is more on-brand with Carhartt itself, rather than TWC. The TWC logo is still featured on all apparel, just the colors are more in-line with Carhartt's typical offerings.

  12. So much for the 8-10pm local programming/newscasts on WPCH. I have wondered why WANF still airs Big Bang Theory reruns at 7:30, that’s ripe for another half hour of news, especially as WPCH scales back.

  13. Jeopardy! does have some benefits in the CT/MT zones. Aside from getting it earlier than larger ET/PT markets, several of them are able to double-run it in the 3 or 4 PM hour, and unlike Wheel which is forced to be slotted in prime access with rarely any exception, they never have to worry about getting pre-empted by sporting events, pregame shows, debates, or some random local telethon or special that the station is looking to produce. Pretty much the only afternoon pre-emptions for J! are tennis and golf on NBC, and Black Friday college football on CBS and ABC. Even during the Olympics, J!'s typical 4/4:30 PM CT is in the open window between Olympic broadcasts that's meant for 5:00 newscasts in ET, but in many cases, Wheel is forced to take two weeks off if the affiliate opts to air The Olympic Zone (CBS MV will not allow them to move Wheel up to 4:00 or 4:30 to replace half of a J! double run, which is silly). If it weren't for Wheel still being forced to be slotted in prime access with just one single run (both clauses being leftovers from when it was also a daytime show to avoid competition or confusion between the two versions), I think many CT/MT affiliates would jump at the opportunity to put Jeopardy! at 6:30 and Wheel sometime in the afternoon or even late morning, if they were allowed to do so. At least then, us Wheel fans would have an early opportunity besides the blurry recordings of CJON's airings that show up on YouTube by 4:30 ET.

  14. Yes. Since they ended Morning Express on HLN, they’ve been simulcasting CNN This Morning.

  16. I suppose all will be revealed when they debut the 10AM, but it certainly seems like an unnecessarily confusing weather lineup for now. Wow, thats a blast from the past. Good for her, she was great as CBS2 traffic reporter back in the day. I actually preferred her to Alex Denis.

  18. Don't know if this was ever posted here. WDIV formerly WWJ, released a documentary on the history of the station. It was refreshingly trasparent and honest about the station's strengths and flaws. Graham stations look really good compared to Nexstar, Sinclair and Gray.

  19. It's been such a pain for the last 7 years that The Weather Channel brand is used by two separate companies. While the TV network technically has its own website, they almost never refer to it because they know people will inadvertently go to IBM's TWC website instead. I kinda wish the tech assets and the TV network could get sold to the same owner and unified again.

  20. Congratulations to Donald Trump, who has been indicted under all four different CNN graphics variations since the spring. (Yes, I know this is beyond nerdy.)

  23. Well, so much for the "SuperStation" that launched basic cable ending up as a network affiliate after all of these years.

  24. Drew Barrymore is moving to sister station WKBD, Detroit 50. ET has moved to Fox O&O and cross town rival WJBK, Fox 2. As for the 7pm hour, I highly suspect that the time slot will eventually be for the 7pm newscast.

  25. They want to keep Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune together, like in the Eastern and Pacific Time Zones. Many stations in central and mountain either have to split the times across the day, or only select one show while another station gets the other.

  26. KTVT CBS News Texas is apparently rebranding once again and dropping News from the name. They are also dropping the 6pm newscast and adding a 7pm newscast on KXTA all starting September 11th. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2023/8/27/cbs-oampo-ditches-6pm-newscast
