“A” studio but not “the” studio. Looks like, as was the case last time, they took a few days to relocate a piece of the set over to the second studio across the hall. That time, they had that “kiddie table” set in the main studio that they used while moving a chunk of the main set, this time they just used the newsroom while that happened.3 points

Paramount's trying to get the Skydance deal done, and they don't expect that to close until September of next year. So it would surprise me if they were interested in buying any stations.2 points

Press release for Mike Seidel and Ari Sarsalari joining FOX Weather full-time. Two big gets from TWC https://press.foxnews.com/2024/08/fox-weather-hires-veteran-meteorologist-mike-seidel-after-more-than-30-year-stint-at-the-weather-channel2 points

I wonder if this means that Ari will have a permanent on-air schedule now. I know for the past couple of months, he's been appearing at random, whenever the network needed him. This morning, based on what I'm seeing, it looks like Ari hosted Fox Weather First alongside Craig, while Britta moved down to Weather Command to cover the landfall of Debby alongside Stephen.1 point

Well well well, look who showed up at Fox Weather, starting today... Yep, that's Mike Seidel, who was laid off from TWC back in May. Today was his first day appearing with Fox Weather. Stephen and Kendall welcomed him to Fox Weather, also mentioning that Mike Seidel has been given the title of "Storm Specialist" with the network.1 point

NewsNet could have been something greater. I never understood why they never updated their graphics. They looked horrible and off putting. It looked so bad compared to MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, CNBC, NewsNation, etc..1 point

The "OG" WMNN stream is currently stuck on a loop of a few seconds of a sports report (something something HLS) with a 9:22AM CT/10:22 ET/etc. timestamp. Also, Remington Hernandez has also confirmed the closure on his Instagram. I've said quite a bit about NewsNet/MI News 26 over the years... It's unfortunate it ended this way. I thought the original MI News 26 idea was decent, I just don't think Cadillac had enough going on to really necessitate it. I had a bad feeling about the change to NewsNet and thought it was unfortunate so many resources got dumped into it vs. the localized version. I don't remember seeing much localized content on the other "O&O" stations, which was a little sad to see. I think they lost their way with the national concept, and it unfortunately caused the whole thing to crash down. Like the launch of the SportsNews Highlights channel just made zero sense to me. They seemed to be going after a market that no longer exists. All of their content was available from 1000 different sources, why would I bother with finding their channel on some odd low-power station that I probably can't even receive anyways? Hopefully, there's a chance for Eric Wotila to reclaim the Cadillac stations and pick up at least some of the pieces, and get some of those who lost their jobs today back to work.1 point

Twitter and Facebook are frozen on the last jobs report so it might be on the morning video loop with no one minding the store. Twitter/Facebook is frozen on the monthly jobs report. Stick a fork in it; it's done. Seems like the folks who have been financing the Five Hour Energy guy's spare parts media empire are done with him too; I saw an absolutely long and long-winded 'buy 2 get one free' offer on cases of the stuff last night scanning by FNC which means their longtime agency also was done with them. Next spoke to watch will be ShopHQ, which turned down an all-but-done deal with RNN to become a part of Indian-American Byron Allen's company; and we'll have to see what happens to Coastal's own news ops.1 point

Regarding CBS and WNCN. Media General offered CBS scale at the time since they were a larger group and WRAL was a one station mom and pop shop. But in the local market, WRAL gave NBC the gift of a lifetime in instant ratings success in a market where NBC has suffered eternally while CBS got a good deal with a larger broadcaster that had an also-ran station in the same market. Moral of the story is that the parent company who paid the network bill is what matters to CBS. That's what reverse compensation has done to the local station industry. NBC took a small sacrifice to gain a lot there.1 point

I Forgot to mention...Anderson Cooper. Not sure if he's still a 60 minutes contributor but he's established presence familiar with CBS. He's got the roving anchorman in a black T-shirt experience of David Muir, and the calming stoicism of Lester Holt. The only problem is he wouldn't be cheap and I don't think Paramount wants to spend money right now. Instead of this musical anchor chairs CBSEN could have stuck with Bob Schiffer for the 10 years until his retirement and then went with someone else.1 point

Both of you, @Rusty Muck @The Frog, I don't want to hear anymore from either of you, tonight. The whole thread should not have to be locked because of this pissing match. Both of you have been around here long enough to know better. I'd appreciate if you both respected this request. Log off, cool off, and have a good evening.1 point

Here had to be Nexstar; they didn't want another mid-January surprise for CBS to pull WJMN's affiliation and look where that station is now, and both had priorities; CBS to keep their coverage, Nexstar to not have The CW end up on an HC2 station (or even worse, cable-only or ATSC 3.0-exclusive). Perry learned his lesson from the affiliates; play chicken all you want with the sidecars and cablecos, but when it comes to the networks you will not have a happy new year if they're having to throw Grit on a main channel and lose event revenue because of egos in Irving. Because of that, the alleged 'worst' station in the market in WZMQ was giddy to grab CBS and suck all the oxygen out of their competitor's news division to have it sold for a pittance to Morgan Murphy.1 point

All the other deals the CW and Nexstar made about affiliations of the CW was not because of Paramount. Besides, Paramount is more focused on other stuff.1 point

Hilarious development of a hilarious cycle of affiliations, a station sale that never went through and dire straits for the CW in Detroit1 point

Going to have to respectfully disagree with this one. This is definitely a case of station branding over lead ins. Channel 7 is still the #2 English language station despite weak lead ins from Fox. It's a strong station with a well known solid anchor team at 10:00 p.m. despite not quite having the energy it used to. IMO Ch's 10 & 7 outdo Ch's 6 & 4 because of the tabloid newscast appetite in Miami. The latter have more standard clean cut corporate broadcasts. Moreover the WBFS newscast would be produced by WFOR which is the last place station in Miami (despite CBS at one point being the #1 television network).1 point

Next step on this CW affiliate train, Tuscon and others! I endorse KTTU because... I mean, they have no choice to do so. Grau Television is all focused on Sports in Arizona that they probably won't air the CW in KOLD-TV. For the others, I have no idea. Also, with Paramount this is the least of their worries, I guess they chose now so they can focus on Skydance. Y E S.1 point

There's unconfirmed reports (or Adell leaked this) that a reverse comp dispute was behind the CW-Scripps breakup. Lol.1 point

Will you please stop spouting nonsense and word salads, especially since you don't sight your sources, have no clue what you're talking about, and only seem to post just to hear yourself talk? Thank you. With all that said, let's move on and have someone with more insider knowledge talk more about the 2024-25 syndication season1 point

Guessing that 9pm newscast WFOR has on WBFS moves to 10pm against WSVN now.1 point
-
…and @RustyMuck was so certain that The CW would be locked out of those two markets. Anyway, funny that Paramount/CBS gave up its CW affiliations last year, only to now agree to bring the network back to WKBD and add WBFS (which The CW passed over in favor of WSFL through its charter affiliation deal with Tribune) as an affiliate. This was totally out of left field.1 point
-
I like how WKBD somehow had the second shortest time being a independent station right now, besides during the transition from being a Fox affiliate to being a UPN O&O station during 1994–1995 under Paramount ownership.1 point

The Detroit (and Miami) question has been answered:1 point

WBFS has now aired a 10pm since 2011 and they now air 9pm news from WFOR since last year. WTVJ did but canceled in 2008 amid the now-aborted WTVJ sale to Post-Newsweek. WPLG has now done so for WSFL since 2021 but just canceled their morning news in favor of Scripps News programming. WTVJ later tried at 9pm on NBC Miami Nonstop (WTVJ 6.2) for a few months but canceled before the Cozi TV launch. Regardless, NOBODY can beat WSVN at their 10pm game. I live in this market so I can speak highly about this (my default pic is why it is what it is). WSVN garners ratings at 10pm makes others jealous. Yeah, I don't see it surviving much longer since the 10pm news would be frequently preempted most nights by Panthers games, regardless of whether it starts early or late.1 point
-
With Scripps recently acquiring Florida Panthers rights, that WPLG 10pm doesn't have much longer on WSFL, IMHO.1 point
-
WFOR/WBFS had their 10 pm newscast but it's long gone for a reason. WTVJ tried a 10pm newscast on WSFL (and later Cozi?) and it didn't work. WPLG has a 10pm newscast on WSFL but honestly WSVN has that slot locked down.1 point
