Ken Rice at KDKA has been doing the 11pm show solo for some time now after the cost-cutting moves during the pandemic that led to the departure of the sorely-missed Susan Koeppen. But there was a lot of talk back then that going solo was their plan for the morning shows across the O&Os. A number of morning anchors were let go in that same wave of cuts: Chris McKinnon in Boston, Erin Kennedy in Chicago, Rick Dayton in Pittsburgh: and they did that for some time in Pittsburgh with Heather Abraham anchoring solo until it was evident that a 2.5-hour morning show didn't lend itself well to one anchor. 6pm/11pm shows can work with a solo anchor -- and if they're a strong talent like Ukee or Ken, it's a no-brainer. But CBS local hasn't been the greatest judge of talent in recent years.

Yes, but satellite stations aren’t considered to be a duopoly arrangement until they cease simulcasting their parent station to offer their own slate of programming (like what effectively happened with KNWA and sister KFTA, when the latter stopped simulcasting the former’s NBC programming and converted into a Fox affiliate in 2006).

Both KWTV and KOTV debuted new graphics and music tonight as KWTV debuts a new set.

Those are the standard Fox O&O graphics. I don't spot anything different there. There are I think five different skin types of the Fox graphics with a different set of colors. Each one has an internal name that's a fox. I think the one with the light blue accents is called Arctic Fox.

Been that way since the first version of the new graphics debuted. And to YourWorldToday's post, but those are the International newsrooms, I meant CNN domestic.

Not a new package, but WDIO/Duluth has updated their graphics... Simplifying and eliminating some of the animations from their previous Linear Drift open and adding blue/teal to their red/white/black scheme. The only things that gets me is that logo bug in the corner... Would moving the logo up and putting a standard time/temp under it be a better use of the space? Or are they recognizing that people can see the time on their phones?

They're not there now, but apparently Gray is on board to dedicate subchannels of WSLN (Rockford) and WNDU (South Bend) to this service. I'd hope that the secondary channel would be static when not in use to optimize bandwidth. I could see a future where Yvonne Stroud (whose husband Joe died in April) sells WJYS soon. They are probably making good money from this arrangement, which makes sense when considering that WJYS has primarily been a paid programming purveyor in 33+ years of broadcasting.

This line stuck out to me in this story regarding Jessica Kartalija's departure from KYW (yes, it was a cost-cutting measure to release her)... KNWA had previously used the KFAA calls from 1989 to 2004, adopting its current calls shortly after being sold to Nexstar. Unless otherwise noted, this would mark the first time the same base call letters, disambiguated only by different leading prefix letters (“W” swapped for “K”, or vice versa), were used on a duopoly. Until now, there only have been cases of this occurring within the same station group, but in different markets (the Big Three’s New York and Los Angeles O&Os being a major example), as well as cases like WPKD (a nod to parent CBS O&O KDKA) where the junior partner station’s calls only partially reference those of their duopoly parent.

And in another twist, KTVT is canceling its 9 a.m. newscast in favor of running a full hour of The Drew Barrymore Show. (And adding an hour of news at 7 a.m. on KTXA.) I wonder when the third hour of CBS Mornings debuts what the schedule adjustments will be like.

One odd thing I noticed, one of the Oklahoma City skyline photos used for the evening newscasts is dated before 2012, considering it doesn’t even include the Devon Tower, which in the view from where the pic was taken, would be visible to the right of the Oklahoma Tower (the building farthest right in the picture). Skyline photos taken after the Devon’s completion usually incorporate it in the frame. (For additional reference, the BOK Park Plaza, built five years after the Devon’s completion, is also absent in that photo.)
