  1. Gross. Why do I want to hear the sponsored opinion of a bookseller on the election?

  2. Although it could be just tonight's circumstance, Maurice did appear with Kristine tonight at 11pm. The most logical sense would be Kristine/Dick at 5pm and Maurice/Kristine 11pm, but who knows with their apparent solo anchor push. I also don't recall any mention on WCBS about the promotions of Maurice and Lonnie. I also noticed Lonnie using the "virtual weather studio" a lot more the last few weeks.

  3. Interesting he said "Even when I join the evening news team, I'll be in this actual studio for a while", does that mean that CBS is planning on using 57 at first once the relocation to NYC happens, then give John and Maurice a new set?

  4. Let's just take a moment to celebrate how far CBS has come aesthetically. That newsroom looks great and I love the brown accents on the graphics package. It reminds me of Katie Couric era CBS Evening News. I would argue CBS News now has the best sets of big 3 broadcast networks. I don't recall WCBS or CBS making a formal on air announcement of John and Maurice taking over CBSEN. The OG press release also described Margaret Brennan as leading the political coverage whenever news breaks. I'm curious to see how this dynamic will play.

  6. Not starting a new thread over it, but KUSA has adopted the new open first seen on WXIA.

  7. Katie (Katherine then) was the Pentagon correspondent for NBC and was co-anchor of the much more buttoned up Sunday Today program. She also commanded hours of NBC’s coverage during Columbine, 9/11, London subway bombings, Hurricane Katrina, etc. She also held an impromptu interview with Bush senior that was well regarded. CBSEN didn’t work out for her but she has the chops for serious news. Statements like this might give her comments on sexism a bit of credence. In my opinion, David Muir is one of the worst anchors to grace any of the evening newscasts but you seldom hear criticism that he’s better suited for GMA, which he arguably was when Diane retired.

  8. I think KGO's set is really underrated. It has almost everything you'd ever need in a set: a nice home base, a distinct weather area, a unique interview/demo area, and a few different reporter standup positions. The topical graphics that they put in the monitors also always look really sharp. Even though it's pushing eight years old, it has held up very well. If that set debuted today, I think we'd all compliment it. The only thing that's a shame is that they didn't install a larger version of it in the studio that they gave away to KRON instead.

  9. Sets don't need to match graphics. Some of the stations could use a coat of paint, but matching the sets to something that will likely change and be long gone before the space reaches the end of its useful life feels unwise. The on-set screen logos and graphics were changed accordingly, and that's all you really need, at this point.
