  1. I mean, every newscast he’s on is the most watched. Seems apparent New Yorkers think he’s good enough.

  2. I don’t know that they really needed to go all out with new music and graphics and it’s not as if they had a lot of time.

  3. I’m not sure why some expected a total refresh. Basically Bally’s ended their naming deal and FanDuel stepped in. When (if) Diamond/Sinclair emerges from bankruptcy, FanDuel may invest but won’t be the controlling owner based on what has been disclosed.

  4. Actually, KFAA is just moving Estrella to 29.2 from 29.1.

  5. I think he’s good. I actually think he’s a little better fit for the evenings rather than the mornings and they are clearly exposing him to viewers at all times so he will be well known and I think most viewers will adjust quickly. The mornings is what I’m not sure about. I know someone mention Pedro Rivera joining the desk with Shirleen but watching him a few times on weekdays (don’t really watch weekends much) I don’t know he’s the best fit there.

  7. Not a bad idea at all. I just question if said programs would do well as we're already overloaded with national news.

  8. My guess is that Amazon will shell out plenty of $$$ to make sure this venture is comparable to ABC, NBC, etc.. across the board. Otherwise, why make the effort to begin with???

  9. It's an option, I'll say that. Not sure it could be a good option if its production resembles a sub-150 Nexstar station, but it will be an option.

  11. And yet, WZZM is letting Samantha Jacques take over. Hell, even if Terri were to join WZZM and become Chief, she would still follow Sam's route in still doing it in the morning. Also, remember that it says that she's only doing it three days a week so she wants it part-time to then do other things in her life so I don't think WZZM was in the cards for her.

  12. Speaking of... This is a HUGE get for WXMI. Terri DeBoer is coming back to West Michigan Television in mid-November on WXMI's Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday editions of their morning news. https://www.fox17online.com/news/local-news/meteorologist-terri-deboer-joins-fox-17-morning-news

  13. Good clickbait without any real substance. Someone could to this, or might do that. Ok…sure. Wake us when something actually transpires, not idle speculation or breathless reports on ideas that may or may not ever see the light of day. Just having a little good natured fun.

  14. Move the local news up to 10-11/9-10c so they can get that full hour of ad revenue. Put the late shows on 11/10c. I would imagine being seen earlier would help their ratings. Nightline especially would benefit from being earlier. Now, networks now only have to fill 2 hours of lack luster content a night. The solution should not be what some Fox stations do: news at 10 and 11pm ET (a full 90-95 minutes). News departments are stretched thin enough.

  15. I'm a bit confused as to why the presence of a ticker is the metric for whether or not something counts as news. I don't recall tickers being commonplace on news channels until the 2000s. My guess is that they're being phased out because they're no longer necessary now that everyone has a smartphone with them at all times.

  16. Changes are on the horizon: Fridays: Mike Marza now is 11pm anchor and Pedro Rivera is 4:30am anchor. Neither will be “in for” Ritter or Marza respectively as this change is rolling into a transition coming in the new year. Ritter will step down from 5 and 11pm - keeping only the 6pm with Liz. He will maintain helm of “up close” for the time being. Mike Marza moves to 5 & 11pm, Rivera moves to mornings and 10am with Shirleen. Mike and Sade effectively become the “lead anchors” with Bill slowly transitioning to retirement in a few years. A formal announcement from Ritter will come after the election, closer to the year’s end.

  17. Bally Sports could still sign new deals with MLB teams, the teams will just have to accept less money (and they’ll have to be comfortable being in business with Bally Sports going forward)

  18. On the local level, the Portland Trail Blazers are the latest team to leave a regional sports network, as the team and Root Sports terminated their contract with a season left remaining. The team will announce a TV broadcast home in the coming weeks, especially just as the NBA will announce its team schedules for the upcoming season today (8/15). https://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/2024/08/trail-blazers-leaving-root-sports-alternative-not-yet-announced.html Honestly, this could be ripe for Gray Media to snap up Blazers broadcast rights, as they have the KPTV/KPDX duopoly and their continual expansion of going after local sports rights, as they've done in Phoenix with the Suns, as well as recently acquiring the Pelicans TV rights for WVUE, and are entering into a joint venture with Cavaliers ownership to start an over-the-air sports network in Cleveland (and in Cincinnati via a WXIX subchannel) which is launching in the fall, although the Cavs will remain on Bally Sports for the time being.

  19. My new book "Here Now the News" is now available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I interviewed dozens of people who shared many memories and ancedotes about the legendary New York City newscasters.

  20. A big loss in Gulf Coast television. Mel Showers, who reported and anchored for WKRG in Mobile for 50 years, has passed away. https://www.wkrg.com/news/business/mel-showers-broadcasting-pioneer-and-legendary-news-5-anchor-dies/ Being the local legend that he was, all of the local stations (and even AL.com) covered the story as well. https://weartv.com/news/local/mel-showers-beloved-mobile-news-anchor-and-trailblazer-dies-at-78# https://www.fox10tv.com/2024/10/19/longtime-local-news-anchor-mel-showers-passes-away-78/ https://mynbc15.com/news/local/longtime-mobile-news-anchor-mel-showers-has-died# https://www.al.com/news/2024/10/beloved-mobile-news-anchor-mel-showers-dead-at-78.html
