  1. Charles Scarborough was the last anchorperson on NYC TV to have been on the air in this market, at that position, prior to 1980. As far as on-air personnel in any station going back to the decade of the '70s, it looks like it'll be down to just Marvin Scott (WNEW-TV, WPIX) and Irv "Mr. G" Gikovsky (WCBS-TV, WPIX). Come Dec. 13, Kaity Tong (WABC-TV, WPIX) will be the city's longest-tenured news anchor (43 years and counting). Rosanna Scotto (WNYW) is next on the longevity list.

  2. Chuck did not break the Guinness World Record. Former WHAM (Rochester, NY) anchor Don Alhart still holds that record.

  3. A career deserving of praise, respect and the history books. Congratulations and thank you, Mr. Scarborough.

  4. Congratulations to Chuck! I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I feel like he should’ve did this a few years ago. He’s not the same anchor that he was 10 years ago. Would love to see Sue come back to co-anchor his last newscast. I assume David will be named co-anchor, putting him and Natalie at 4pm, 6pm, 7pm, and 11pm, while keeping Adam and Gilma at 11am and 5pm. But I wonder if it makes sense to put Adam and Gilma at 11 AM, 4 PM, and 6 PM, With David and Natalie at 5 PM, 7 PM, at 11 PM, making their on air time more even.

  5. I don't think this is as surprising as many of you would think. NBC has made clear that it is cutting costs. That includes salaries of its top-earning anchors. Chuck is a man with a seven-figure salary (as of 2011, it was estimated that he made $1 million per year, and that price has no doubt risen in the subsequent 13 years) that I'm sure NBC would like to not pay. I believe Chuck's decision to retire is his own, but even he surely saw the writing on the wall and figured it was time to get out while the getting was good. Not even veteran local news anchors like Chuck Scarborough are immune to the realities of the TV news business.

  6. My how Clancy Burke's former station has fallen. If they're gonna have that title card after EVERY story at least remove the darn sound effect. We don't need to hear it every 45 seconds lol. Looks like they still have anchors in the morning, I wonder if or when that goes away totally.

  7. While you & me would like a news heavy channel, it seems like every network thinks most Americans wont. CNN & NewsNation are both in a better position to focus more on other news, and they are still spending a lot of time focusing on politics, and when they aren't focusing on politics, the focus seems to be on more sensational stories designed more to entertain than inform. It appears NewsNation likes to focus on true crime & UFO's when they aren't covering politics. In the past CNN focused on things like missing planes & aired reality style programming in primetime. The streaming news channels are not much better. There seems to be a theory that most Americans don't care about news from other parts of the country unless it's something sensational. The only stories from different parts of the country that get wide coverage are things like mass shootings or major storms. International coverage is even worse. Unless it's something like a war or terror attack, most international news is ignored. National newscasts in Australia & Canada do a much better job at covering international news than any of the major network newscasts, and they do so with far fewer resources. I think political news will increase for everyone in 2025, and with NBC News splitting from MSNBC, the channel formally known as MSNBC will have every reason to focus more on politics.

  8. But what do you about the channel still owned by News Corp in Australia? Unless you toss a lot of money at Rupert to buy the Sky branding outright, that's still a fly in the ointment.

  9. They did not say that. Lazarus said the new company could be a buyer of stations without specifying any station groups.

  10. WordPress (the software) doesn't "control" local news websites. It's a content management system. And WordPress VIP, which I believe the CBS O&O sites run on, is a managed hosting service built on top of the WordPress software. Neither of them has any say in what content appears on any website that uses them. I'm sure the same goes for the other CMSses out there.

  11. So? It's just a place card while they figure out the actual name. It won't be called Spinco Media. They could also license events to the new USA, which others have done. I would assume there are some longterm licensing agreements across the board. We got a year for them to figure this all otu.

  12. It's always interesting when these "rebrands" happen and just like this example they tout how they will bring you stories that "impact you and your family every day". So... what were you exactly doing before then? Aside from this new logo, how does this brand change what's in your rundown? I think we know the answer to that though...

  13. Agreed. I do wonder what will become of the big moveable video monitor that was used as a divider. Seems like such an expensive unit to never use again (…not that it was used often to begin with). Here’s a better look of the window setup. I like the big desk and decorative screen (despite it covering the view).
