Definitely worth the 10+ year wait! This has what a lot of sets these days are lacking, DEPTH and I love it! I know lots of people will say that's because of video walls, but this shows that you can have depth and modern tech mixed in! The new desk is a huge improvement! It beats whatever that oversized one made up of two monitors was! I'll say like @MediaZone4K, the weather area might be my favorite part of the new set! The circles and the clouds are so fun! IDK if it's a duratran or a wall from the image but if it's a wall, it would be cool if they replaced the clouds with lighting/snow/etc to reflect the weather. The angled desk kind of ruins the mood though.2 points

Very nice new studio. ABC 7 finally looks fully modern with their presentation. I like that the skyline isn't just a plain old skyline, but seems to be somewhat artistic with some animated graphics mixed in. Anchors seem to be sitting close to each other. Michelle made mention of that at the end of this morning's farewell. They tried to show a timelapse of the studio's construction but they started it too soon and they didn't show anything of consequence before they cut away from it. Perhaps we'll see more of that tomorrow morning or Monday. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it used on other broadcasts,2 points

One big fix was the lighting! Dark: Vs brighter more even color The hollow Circle 7 with the clouds is also a great touch. My favorite element of the new set. The echo sounding mics remind me of KTRK and KABC's sound. I don't know if this is a carryover from ABC News, but the anchors asko seem to be talking very loudly. I noticed that on GMA and WNT, my assumption is it's for dramatic effect just like their overuse of breaking news.2 points

So far the wide shot looks familiar, more an evolution than drastic change - big seamless digital screen and they use a nicely touched up skyline shot. Big change is a ticker with the EWN masthead in motion on the background video feed. Weather center also a familiar, but updated look. The white round element behind it gives off CBS eye vibes. Mics / sound needs tweaking, sounds like they are in a warehouse. The full studio shot is impressive, big deconstructed '7' hanging over the set that adds depth and makes it look grand. Desk is an improvement in branding. They kept the 'accuweather' repeating background behind Jeff when he's at the anchor desk, but displayed on a screen, and with the theatrics of a camera zoom which is a nice touch. Overall well done keeping what works and evolving it.2 points

I still can’t believe there moving. This is just extremely rare this never happens in New York the networks stay in the buildings forever because of how historic they are ABC is doing something never done before. I don’t have a photo but I’ve seen WABC building it’s gonna be sad to see it go.2 points

Yeah, thank god for that. These reruns shouldn't be on broadcast TV anymore. His show has become more trash TV and political talking than intended. I think stations that carry his program could use a better hour for more local programming or other new syndicated programming that may come out later.2 points

I agree. Begin the show with that daily news roundup, but instead extend it to 90 second VOs or VO/SOTs for the first 2-5 mins, then get into feature reporting for the remainder. If CBS torches their best revamp of EN since Bob Schiffer, that would be very unfortunate. To the critics: Every news outlet covers the same thing, it's not a sin that CBS decided to go in a different direction. I really hope the audience gives this a chance. It's a jolting transition because we've been hardwired to fast paced high story count newscasts like the competition. But this is a level of quality rare for American TV news that we'd more see from PBS or Europeran sources like BBC and France 24. I hope people will open their minds to this. If this crashes and burns, I don't think the evening news can get much better than this. Just give the timeslot back to the affiliates.1 point

For those who remember her, Kayla Mamalak (now Altus), formerly a morning reporter at Fox5, is now Mayor Adams' press secretary. She had been deputy but when she came back from maternity leave recently, she was promoted. You can hear her telling reporters that they're not going to discuss other stuff in Friday's press conference. Talk about an unpleasant job to have right now!1 point

It’s going to be odd walking by and not seeing channel 7 and ABC News on that corner of the UWS. What becomes of Peter Jennings Way?1 point

posted this in the WABC thread too.. They just had a really cool closing “thanking” viewers for watching and visiting them all these years in their building. They ended with a long zoom out of the outside of the studio and the extended theme. If anyone has it recorded and can post it was pretty cool. New set debuts at 6pm tomorrow1 point

'Plus' shouldn't have been launched in the first place. The focus should have been on strengthening 'Evening News' before even thinking about having a companion program. They didn't launch CBS Mornings + until they felt good about where CBS Mornings was (format, ratings, etc...). Sure, in theory. I think the question for them is balancing what's worth reporting on and what isn't and how much time do you devote to certain things. It's not surprising that they making adjustments (...that was to be expected).1 point

Oh well. He had a good run before he went nanners. Then again, he could fall upward into some government role like Dr. Oz....1 point

So Dr. Phil is clinically stupid; that revenue and those reruns staying on the air from all that syndication and Pluto FAST is likely the only thing keeping Merit Street on the air and why he still has notability and not that 'whatever happened to' status right now. Hopefully they keep some FAST deals otherwise this could be a disaster.1 point

Meanwhile, Dr. Phil (reruns) is exiting broadcast syndie after this season. All eppys will be exclusive to Merit TV. It appears the said reruns will end on OWN as well. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/merit-tv-now-exclusive-home-to-all-21-seasons-of-dr-phil/1 point

The current studio is pretty nice, especially once the screens were updated and the backdrops modernized. Weekend GMA will be coming from Times Square until June when all of GMA moves downtown.1 point

Never thought I’d be happy with a WABC set but this looks incredible. That circle 7 logo from above, nice touch. LA, Houston and Philly have the best looks to me but this is about to give them a real run for their money. Can’t wait to see it on air.1 point

Actually, no. Reruns will stay on OWN plus on Pluto TV. Not only that, the network has expanded to Canada. https://thedesk.net/2025/02/dr-phil-ending-cbs-syndication-merit-street/0 points
