They also have a 'malicious compliance' version of the logo where the ABC ball is still used...but for the Fox version they just replace the ABC text with the Fox logo. It's technically compliant for its use, but it feels like it's easier to just switch logos without the black ball being needed.1 point

I think both sides agree to part ways and Billy wanted to do more podcasting with his Hot Mics Billy's old place Access Hollywood a few weeks ago was talking about some celeb that was on Hot Mics with Billy Bush. I like how no one ever mentions their rivals when Mario Lopez got his star on Walk Of Fame at the end of Extra last year they just said former Extra host and did a mini interview saying how he liked working for Extra that was about it.1 point

Apparently, it was shilling local food joints on his facebook page that got Mark Johnson canned.... https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2025/5/10/fired-in-cleveland https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2025/4/8/are-these-ads (posts like these) Seems more like a conflict of interest instead of a ethical matter to me. Perhaps WJW may pick him up after all and put him on "New Day Cleveland" once the dust settles. You know, because Nexstar and selling things....1 point

Basically, the entire NewsNation network is this way. Get fired/quit from a major network (even for cause) and end up on NN because you're a recognizable name that could get them a viewer (or two). It's basically an added value on the whole game Perry Sook invented by shaking down cable companies for money. The stations suffer while the saved pennies all go towards NewsNation.1 point

I don't see Apollo being anywhere close to that smart, they'd rather take Cox off the market entirely than concede the bloody obvious that no one wants the whole group as-is. And even Connoisseur's purchase of Alpha is fraught with a lot of problems; Jeff Warshaw is either going to have to shut down a lot of small-market stations (many of which Alpha destroyed entirely) or sell them for a pittance just to make it work.1 point

Being New Orleans, WVUE is the Saints' station, so FOX may be taking issue to any deviation by Gray. I doubt Fox is shopping themselves to the other stations in the market, but that could be a possibility one day. The arrangement should be a boon for everyone involved, but FOX may feel otherwise....1 point

I wouldn’t put it past them, but it could also support their group wide initiatives like Local News Live or InvestigateTV.1 point

Two things of note involving TEGNA: The company has a job opening for a “director of content” to oversee its Florida stations, WTSP Tampa and WJXX/WTLV Jacksonville. FTVLive reported a few days ago that TEGNA planned to effectively merge both stations, so it looks like the company is making good on that plan. Another interesting note: WJXX/WTLV GM Tim Thomas’ LinkedIn profile shows he is now the GM at WTSP as well. Also, TEGNA CEO Mike Steib seems to be in a selling mood. In a phone call with industry analysts, he said, “We are buyers of anything that’s a fit for our mission and our company. And if there’s anything someone wants to buy from us at a price that is more than it is worth to our shareholders, we’re interested in selling it.” TEGNA might be in a buying mood if the FCC does loosen or eliminate the ownership cap, but I think TEGNA knows it can make more money by selling stations to the likes of Nexstar or Sinclair.1 point

They're one of the very few, if not the only Sinclair station not to use the Sinclair music package. Been using Aerial since 2012, all the way back to the LIN days.1 point

With Connoisseur buying AlphaMedia, there's a rumor they may be interested in the Cox radio stations: https://connoisseurmedia.com/connoisseur-media-to-acquire-alpha-media-creating-leading-nationwide-local-media-company/ Cumulus may even be one of their targets. Is Cumulus that poorly off that a small fish like Connoisseur can gobble them up? In fact, it was Connoisseur that sold off stations (all of them?) to Cumulus in the 90's consolidation binge. But back to CoxPollo, a sale like this could make the TV sale a little easier if there are willing parties in the faster circling drain that is the radio industry. As long as it's not EMF or some god-caster.1 point

Not surprised. I had an inkling this happened. Mostly because I was thinking recently of...1 point

Yes & No. From what I’ve seen, all four anchors appear at the very top (at 9A) and then everyone (including Mike and Kaitlin) will do a segment solo or they’ll do a segment (or two) as a group. Kaitlin does the weather at 8A, 9A and Noon, but Mike often appears throughout GDC doing non-weather related stuff. Been that way for a while.. Over the past several weeks; they have also updated the openings for each newscast.1 point

The return of WJMN-TV 3 to ABC also reunites the station with that affiliation for the first time since Spring 1992, in which WJMN-TV 3 (and its former parent station WFRV-TV 5 in Green Bay, Wisconsin) were ABC stations who became CBS O&O stations from 1992 to 2007. CBS moved from WLUC-TV 6 in Marquette, Michigan and WBAY-TV 2 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, respectively, as Midwest Radio & TV, Inc., the owner of WCCO-TV 4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and former parent of WFRV-TV 5/WJMN-TV 3, was purchased by CBS Corporation in 1992. For most of its life until the the launch of their separate studio presence in the early 2010s after Nexstar's purchase, WJMN-TV 3's newscast was basically a semi-satellite of WFRV-TV 5's newscast with an Upper Peninsula-specific schedule with separate syndicated programs, plus Upper Peninsula-specific news, sports and weather update inserts. What the Yoopers got was different from what the Cheeseheads down in N.E. Wisconsin got, aside from local news segments until 2012. WJMN-TV 3's 20-year affiliation with CBS was up, when CBS affiliation moved to WZMQ-TV 19.2. The combined operation under Morgan Murphy Media was successful in bringing more Yooper viewers to the ABC affiliate by combining the assets and personnel of local stations WJMN-TV 3 (who had better independent-style newscasts with a larger studio, but a weak, almost non-existant affiliate) with WBUP 10 (who had a weaker newscast and a strong network affiliate).1 point

Yeah….no. The shows are expensive. That is reason to give group management pause and warrants careful evaluation as contracts renew. But the bottom is what matters and if the business benefits from having the shows on those stations, they will stay. Big boys and girls understand business is business. Sometimes you get into a tiff in one area, but no one with an ounce of common sense would base a business decision involving millions of dollars just on spite.1 point

Which would be suicidal and I'm sure the local folks will try to talk New York out of it, but we're talking about a company that utterly refuses to kill a cable channel even as nobody is watching them and subscribers plead with providers to force them to die to get even $4 of relief on their bills. Les Moonves is a jerk and his personal life sucked, but he literally only seemed to be the only adult in the room that could get through to the Redstones and the Viacom board and deal with every CBS division with an iron fist. I would expect next go-around if this sticks, Sony seals a deal with ABC-Disney for distribution and streaming and that if not Netflix, Hulu already has a head start to start streaming the shows just based on Sony/ABC's overall relationships regarding the show alone. Every single negative thing Les feared about a re-merger has come true.1 point

As someone who has seen the morning news on WBUP, it has simply been a replay of the 11 p.m. news, so this is actually something more than an expansion, putting the station in direct competition with TV6. That makes WZMQ 19 the only station without a morning show. No Marquette DMA stations do any midday/noon news. The four-station news race in that market now becomes three.1 point
